About this vendor
Derek’s dedicated vision evolves with each wedding he photographs. There is a sense of romance and serenity in his images capturing the beauty you never want to forget. His approach to candid moments and editorial-style portraiture is what truly sets him apart.
His style is about using poetic light to thoughtfully capture kindred and sincere moments. He adores the natural Hawaiian light and knows how to maneuver from light to dramatic surroundings, movement to stillness while balancing with the fluidity of a dress and veil. With his sophisticated eye, he not only captures the fine details, but captures worthy moments that seem to escape the day so quickly, thus enchanting his clients.
His ability to have that connection with his subjects is also what creates some of the most stunning and editorial wedding images that have been published.
His love and connection to the islands is what brings him back to his home-base. Derek’s humble confidence and creativity makes him the leading wedding photographer in Hawaii with over twenty years of experience. He is sought after from local to destination wedding clientele.

er kind. I am so thankful that he was part of this very special day for us. We just could not be happier with the excellent service and the breathtaking photos :)
Don't let the Knot of 5 reviews fool you. If you follow Derek's website, Instagram and Facebook you will realize the quality of work is amazing. Derek's staff including Kathy and B...
onnie were amazing. I wouldn't change a thing.
I hired Derek before I had a venue as the one thing that came to my mind were the pictures/photographer. I loved working with Derek as he was easy going and easy to talk to. If you want specific photos I would suggest writing a list of the photos you would like (I had lots of family photos to take so I made a list so the whole process would go smoothly).
Derek's options in pricing and packaging were very reasonable as other photographers I interviewed offered less but for a more expensive price. I did not want to break my bank over photos so I needed to do my research. After following Derek for over a year I realized he was the one!
The one thing I regret was not hiring him for the 10 hours! I felt like the day went by too fast. The great thing about his package choice are the amount of photos and album you get!
Who knows maybe in the future I will hire Derek to take family photos!
Hiring Derek Wong is #3 of the best decisions we made for our wedding (#1 was the Reception venue and #2 was the Ceremony venue). It's very important to us that we would have the b...
est photography for our wedding. I am so thankful that in spite of all his prestige, it was actually easy to "hang out" with Derek. For our engagement shoot, I was relieved that my fiance found him to be down to earth and helpful. It is interesting how someone can tell you to angle your body this way or lean on your right or left hip and yet it still looks natural in the photos. We were very comfortable with him that we were able to be "in the moment" and just "show our love" to each other. Having our pictures taken for hours can be really tiring but Derek helped us get through it. He was never bossy, not even to our guests. We loved our engagement photos and we are patiently waiting for our wedding photos. Maybe I will cry when I see them!
Derek was great to work with. He is very calm and mellow which transfers over to us and our wedding party. We also used him for our engagement photos and loved him. We haven't g...

a very sophisticated and artistic style to his photos. The fact that even people from the mainland want to hire him is a big give away of his talents because he lives here in Hawaii.
