Venue is beautiful. Cocktail hour was outside over looking the water. The food was awesome, we received many compliments on the food. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Great experience, would get married there again in a heart beat!
I too had some experience with going through several coordinators, but the last month is worked solely with Collette and Maria. Collette was prompt and answered all my emails. Maria made sure my day ran smoothly. I can’t thank them enough for the superb job they did. The venue alone is beautiful and our food was delicious. Our guests complimented that the food was cooked perfectly. They even made special considerations for dietary issues, gluten free, nut allergies, and people on blood thinners. Our guests were so appreciative of this and felt very safe eating there. The venue it’s self was beautiful. Our guests enjoyed walking on the docks, taking in the view of the city. The venue was accommodating with us using a lot of our own decorations and let us store our decorations in a unused room after the event, for us to collect the next day. I highly recommended the DYC for a dream wedding venue.
I’m giving the DYC a 5 because it truly was a spectacular venue. Although we went through numerous event coordinators, Collette came through and made our daughters night unforgettable. Thank you to her and her staff for tremendous service and their special attention to details. Also want to compliment the chef and the food. Everyone talked about how great it was. Beautiful venue that I highly recommend
Our wedding at the DYC turned out beautiful last week! We are, overall, very happy with the venue and how everything turned out. The food had good reviews from our guests, the service during the reception was great, and the staff was quick to turn over the ceremony set to for the reception. They also worked with us to get local beers available for our guests. The reason I didn't give the DYC a 5 was the turnover of staff the year leading up to our wedding. We had three different contact people and each time a new person was hired, we had to go over all the details discussed again. Thankfully, the last person we worked with was Collette and she was excellent to work with and ensured not a detail was missed day of. She was quick to respond to all my emails and did all she could to meet our requests. Overall, a lovely place!
I can not stress enough how utterly disappointed we were with our experience at the DYC. We had our wedding in June and every minute of the planning process was a nightmare. 11 days before our wedding we were assigned 5 different banquet coordinators (7 total). Each time someone quit they never bothered to call us or let us know and never passed our information along. They didn't have our seating plan, meal selections (nothing) they assigned someone to our wedding the week of our wedding who just started and then that person walked out in the middle of an event and then we were assigned the assistant manager who we drove to meet with the Saturday before our wedding. She assured us she would take great care of us after meeting with her only to find out after numerous unreturned phone calls the Tuesday before our wedding that she also quit. Needless to say the director of catering never bothered to call and let us know or even send an email. We found out from the operator who answers calls because we couldn't get the director of catering to call us. Fast forward to the Thursday before our wedding when my fiancé drive there to meet with them to once again give them the instructions for our wedding and the floor plan that they lost. The Friday we were setting up the venue for our wedding on Saturday, the staff brought a family in who was getting married there in September. So instead of helping my father carry boxes up and down the stairs they chose to spend their time with the couple getting married in September who was touching ALL of our stuff when we were setting up. After an hour I had to ask the staff to ask them to leave because they were moving everything we had set up. I had to hire a day of coordinator last minute because I had no faith in the DYC to help us with it wedding. On the day of the wedding, the food looked and tasted nothing like it did at our tasting, they had the wrong beers on tap and we were short seats for our guests. I have to mention the DYC did upgrade our bar at no cost and knocked some money off the final balance to make up for it but to me I would rather have just had help and attention in the weeks leading up to our wedding. You only get married once, do not trust your big day with this venue- they do not care. Our wedding was beautiful because my husband and I did everything we could to make it that way but for the 20,000+ we spent I would have rather gone somewhere else. Two things also to note- the venue does not have air so our guests were melting inside of the 90 degree venue and the whole month of June the island is basically under construction for the Grand Prix. These were two things that we knew about prior to signing. My advice to the club owner is to take a look at why you have so much turn over and revisit who you are putting in management positions. Also, have a contingency plan in place- if a worker quits- DOCUMENT the information for the weddings they are responsible for. It's so unfair to couples to have this stress on them because of your turnover.
My husband and I recently had our wedding at the DYC and it was breathtaking! Such a diamond in the ruff. Emily the catering manager is amazing! Every detail, every minute of the night she was there to help along the way! She even was our coordinator for the ceremony!! They don't have any hidden fees and they tell you prices straight up! They have 2 suites at the club which were perfect for the bridal party to get ready in.
We could not have been more happy with our choice of reception venue for our May 2016 wedding! Working with Emily, our coordinator from the DYC, was a dream. I looked forward to seeing her every time we visited the venue - not only was she was incredibly sweet, but she also somehow took my scattered ideas and helped me turn them into realistic plans in our space. She even helped me surprise my husband with an ice cream bar at our wedding, and I'm not sure which of us was more excited about the idea. As for the actual venue, we got so many compliments on the beautiful space (we used the grand ballroom), the views, and the food. We loved having cocktail hour outside (but with an easy alternative available in case of rain) and also loved taking pictures on the dock. It was absolutely worth the drive onto Belle Isle. I would recommend the DYC to any couple!
My husband and I held our daughter's wedding at the Detroit Yacht Club on December 3, 2016. Words cannot express how beautiful everything was. Being in December, we had the advantage of the gorgeous Christmas decorations that adorned the ballroom and adjacent rooms like the cocktail room and the veranda. It complemented my daughter's theme of "A Dickens Christmas." In addition, the food was delicious and the wait staff was superb. I received so many compliments My friends and family kept calling and texting me saying that they have never attended a wedding as beautiful as the one we hosted for my daughter and her husband. If there were a hundred-star rating the DYC would get the entire 100.
The Detroit Yacht Club is definitely a venue to wow your guests. Both banquet halls are gorgeous, and offer a beautiful backdrop for the reception with ample space for guests to spread out both during cocktail hour and after dinner. The food was delicious, and definitely impressed our guests. Everything went smoothly and the Detroit Yacht Club was very responsive to the constant questions I had during the planning process. You can't go wrong with the Detroit Yacht Club as a wedding venue.
I cannot rave about the DYC enough! If you have never been, it is definitely worth a visit if you are looking for a wedding venue...it is beautiful! The staff is also very helpful. We worked with Emily and she was AMAZING! She was so patient, helpful, and willing to do anything to make our day perfect! She worked with us from the time we booked to the time we left the venue on the night of our wedding. The food is great too (many guests told us it was the best wedding food they have had!). We are so glad that we chose the Detroit Yacht Club for our special day! Our guests had an amazing time and all of our photos taken here were breathtaking!
From the very beginning, our experience with the Detroit Yacht Club was amazing! It was easy to book our tour of the venue, and everyone who works in the catering department is incredibly friendly, fun and easy going. We worked with Nikki, she was like a friend who happened to be helping you plan your day. Communication was easy and clear and they were very supportive of any changes we needed to make or questions we had. The food is AMAZING! We had a really fun time at our tasting and everything, including wine, was very good. Two weeks before our wedding we found out Nikki had taken a new job and would not be at our wedding, you can imagine this was a shock to us. Her right hand, Emily, took over and not a detail was missed. Emily slipped right in, she had all our information and was just as friendly and helpful. The day of, we walked into our reception and before I could even blink, Emily and her staff were at the door with champagne and snacks for the wedding party as we got ready for our grand entrance. The rest of the night, I barely saw them - they were really behind the scenes and let the guests enjoy the night. The wait staff is incredibly polite and professional. The operation at the DYC is flawless, the venue is beautiful and the people who work there really care about you.

I recently had my wedding reception at the DYC on September 4th, 2015. It was amazing! I have nothing but the best compliments toward everyone we worked with at the DYC. The night was incredible. I worked with Nikki leading up to the event and she is fantastic. My emails and phone calls were responded to in hours. Obviously what every bride wants! I am actually going to miss talking to Nikki so much! Everything was super organized, I thought the prices were very reasonable, and the days leading up to our wedding were seamless. The night itself went flawless. I did not have a wedding planner or a day of coordinator so I was the most worried about timing and execution of everything, and the reception was perfect. I never had to worry about a thing. Everyday my guests are still commenting about what a gorgeous venue we had and how much they loved the ballroom and the veranda for cocktail hour! I would recommend the DYC to anyone. :) Especially if you want an amazing authentic Detroit venue!

We had a perfect wedding reception at the Detroit Yacht Club. Nikki, their coordinator is amazing. She made sure every little detail I planned was in its place. Cocktail hour on the veranda was great. The ballroom was amazing as the sun went down and the view overlooking the Detroit River was great. The food was fantastic and the service was great. We had a fairytale wedding. Everything I could've imagined.
Gorgeous, Unique, and a Great ValueReviewed on 10/23/2014 Courtney
My husband and I recently held our wedding reception at the DYC at the end of September. We looked at a ton of venues in Detroit and the surrounding suburbs, but we weren't really thrilled with anything that was in our budget. Having been to the DYC for another (non wedding) event, we thought to look there and we are so glad we did. The DYC is the most beautiful place in Detroit. And now that Belle Isle is state-owned, the whole island looks even brighter. The catering staff was amazing, the food was absolutely delicious, and the event coordinators worked flawlessly with our other vendors for a truly magical night. We were absolutely in awe of how beautifully things turned out and we are still hearing from guests that it was "the best wedding they've been to in years" and that they were "just blown away by how gorgeous the DYC is." The one thing to note is that I would recommend budgeting to rent linens and chairs. Unfortunately, the ones they provide for free are more appropriate for meetings than weddings, but that is the only complaint. However, they worked with our chair/linen vendors very well and everything was perfect. If you're looking for a unique venue rich in history and splendor, this is the place for you.
Beautiful venue, disappointing serviceReviewed on 10/16/2014 Amelia B
It has been my dream to be the third generation of my family to get married at the DYC and I'm very happy I did, but in the end I'm a little disappointed in the service we received, especially for the amount of money it is to have your wedding there. During the 8 months we planned our wedding, we saw a high turn over of staff there. It was sad to see some of them go because they were good to work with. In the end, we ended up working with the catering manager Crystal. She was helpful in some areas, but was hard to get ahold of and there were some major mistakes made the day of the wedding. I tried to discuss them with Crystal via email since the wedding, but have received no response. The venue and wedding were still wonderful, I was just disappointed with Crystal's service at times.

This venue is a classic! It is a breathtaking location and perfect for families coming from all parts of Michigan who design something a little more upper crust as it is centrally located. We were very pleased.

Emily was amazing. The venue was very flexible with the things I wanted to do. Very accommodating and the food and drink was delicious!
LOVED THIS VENUEReviewed on 10/21/2013 Clairissa R
We had our wedding on a Friday in October. The Friday option saved us a great deal of money. This is such a fantastic venue to have a wedding. We received so many compliments on the setting because its not your typical, conference room venue- Its a grand ballroom with wood floors and a beautiful view of the Detroit River. Truly a treasure of Belle Isle that most of my family had no idea existed. I felt it really opened up their eyes to the beauty of Detroit. There is an outdoor terrace which offered some relief to the warm Oct day (no air conditioning)and allowed smokers to still partake in the festivities. I felt that the staff did everything they could to make our day special and I dont have a single complaint! The only thing I would have done differently would be to splurge on the appetizers- the veggies did not hold off the hunger for very long and I got a feeling that our guests would have liked something more substantial(but that was us, and not them). The food was SO delicious. We opted to have a grilled chicken picatta, rather than baked, which was completely accommodated for us. The veggie and vegan options were also delicious. Really could not be any happier and Emily was great!

The venue was gorgeous and the food was fantastic I had some issues with the billing, as the coordinator allowed someone to make changes to our contract.

We just had our wedding at the DYC and couldn't of been any happier with the event. The venue was stunning, the food was great and the service was top notch. Emily was a big help throughout the days prior and the day of!
Love the DYC!Reviewed on 10/23/2012 Sarah B
My fiance and I picked the Detroit Yacht Club as the location for both our ceremony and reception. I have been working with Carly to finalize all the details and she is extremely helpful. She responds to my emails and answers all of my questions honestly. She has been truly awesome and pivotal in the planning process. We are getting married after Christmas, and in addition to sending me the wedding package options, Carly provided the holiday specials because we are having an intimate wedding and she realized a whole wedding package didn't make a whole lot of sense for us. I can't wait for our wedding day because I know that it will be truly special!
jewel in DetroitReviewed on 10/19/2012 Katie O
I recently hosted by wedding ceremony and reception at the DYC on Oct 5th 2012. They have several catering managers that assist in the details leading up to the wedding, and everyone is very professional and prompt. The grand ballroom is the most romantic setting that we looked at, and the fireplace is one of a kind. I worked with Emily, who was absolutely fantastic and on point with every detail. She handled a few of my distracted groomsmen with ease to make sure they were in the right place at the right time. The service at the reception was exceptional, and for Detroit, this says a lot. I had heard from others who attended weddings at the DYC that the food was great, and i have to agree. We really liked how the price for the wedding package that is quoted is an all-inclusive deal (food, drinks, valet, champagne, linens). the only thing that i was disappointed about was that the chairs they will provide for free are not very nice, so i had to rent chairs. Overall, this was a unique place to get married, and the staff pulled it off without a glitch.
Perfect Day!!!Reviewed on 10/19/2012 Lisa M
I have nothing but good things to say about my entire experience with the DYC! Throughout the months of planning, and the day of, the staff was so accommodating and professional! Carly and Emily were wonderful and always responded to me in a timely manner. The day of, they made sure every last detail was addressed, and made my night (and my mom's night) completely stress free! All my guests loved the venue and thought it was such a cool building! I received countless compliments! Also, I received so many compliments about the food. No one ever likes wedding food, but I had so many people come up to me a say their meal was amazing and the portions were impressive! Quite a few people told me it was the best food they ever had at a wedding. People are still talking about what an amazing night my wedding was, and I have the DYC to thank! If you choose the DYC, you will not be sorry! They exceeded all my expectations!

The staff at the DYC was really great! Carly and Jennifer were friendly, accommodating and guided us through the whole process. They give great advice about your more detailed planning. Although there were a few hiccups the night of our wedding, they were very quickly remedied. Not to mention the ballroom with the terrace overlooking the harbor was the most beautiful place on an August evening (despite the lack of AC). We couldn't have picked a better place for our reception!
