them to us! I have read a lot of (probably too many…) articles about how the photographer you choose should be a good fit for you. In other words, you should get along really well and have a good feeling about the relationship, knowing that he or she will be taking the photos on your “big day…” Well, we had planned to have our (rather large) wedding in North Carolina, where we live, and we already had a photographer lined up, who had taken our engagement photos earlier in the spring. That plan eventually didn’t work out for various reasons, and we decided to have a small family wedding at my grandmother’s house in Palo Alto. We were pretty last minute about it, and luckily December is not the busiest time for wedding/portrait photographers, because Devi was available for our wedding on December 10! We weren’t able to meet her in advance, but my now-husband and I talked with her over the phone, and she was very kind, and seemed like she knew what she was doing :), and we liked her a lot. Then I got to have long conversation with her myself, in which we discussed all sorts of topics, and I felt like I really knew her after that. We corresponded several times over email before the wedding: she was always thoughtful and told me that she wanted to work out everything in advance so that she knew which shots we wanted her to take. On the day itself, she had arrived in Palo Alto early. She called me from a local coffee shop, saying she was available to come over anytime. The minute I saw her, I felt like we knew each other, and she began setting up to take photos. I never felt like she was intrusive, or any of the ways that I’ve heard other photographers described—she was wonderful throughout the day, like an old friend. She had offered in advance to stay longer if we wanted, and she did end up staying an extra hour. Wow, I just can’t say enough great things about Devi! You’ll be lucky to get her to do your photography!
