I found Devon off another popular wedding site back in 2013/2014. Being super picky, I knew I didn't want to just go off recommendations from friends or family. I wanted to do MY o...
wn research. After a few hours of scrolling through pages of people's work, I came across this lovely lady. She actually had more editorial stuff back then rather than weddings, but I didn't care. My goal was for my wedding shots to look editorial and like something you could rip from a magazine. To me her work is a fine example of how far an artist can go. When we finally met for my hair and makeup trial, she was very down to earth, humble, not stuck up. Very rare to find in Orange County of all places. As a client I could feel her hustle and desire to perfect her work. She even explained some of her rare make up techniques to me. When we were done I was super stoked with the results. I remember so badly wishing I has somewhere to go that day cause I felt gorgeous! On the day of the wedding she met with us at our hotel where we first got ready and met with us at the venue to continue getting the girls ready. She was worth every cent and I'm so proud to see how far she is advancing as I am always seeing her on social media. Definitely worth booking with Devon.

I wanted to have Devon do my bridal make up for a while and was so excited for my trial this past weekend. She was nice enough but very unprofessional. My mom & I both scheduled a ...
trial with her a month in advance and the outcome was very disappointing...
Devon was an hour late to my trial, from another one she pushed mine back to fit in, with out apology. Half way through my trial, and complaining how tired she was from a late night job, she asked my mom to reschedule her trial as she was tired and my mom would be her 4th trial that day (again, we booked both a month in advance). My mom had her hair done the day before and ran home in between appointments, letting Devon know she was washing it per instruction. Devon didn't ask to reschedule until after my mom let her know she was washing out a blow out and had another appointment after her trial. Very inconsiderate.
When she was finally done with my hair and make up, it looked fine, but like she didn't really try or care and still charged us $300 after all the inconvenience. I acted like I was happy with it because I just wanted it to be over and honestly didn't have time to think about how disrespectful this all was until after. It was so clear she didn't want to be there and even said she thought about completely rescheduling both our trials but decided not to. I was so let down and felt defeated after looking forward to this fun glam day with my mom, not how an artist should ever make a bride feel.
She's been doing a lot of bachelor & bravo "celebrities" recently and it just felt like we weren't worth her time and didn't deserve to be a priority. We also accidentally over paid her, and requested the difference back and the Venmo was denied.
When I texted her our disappointment in the situation and that she could release our wedding date, she didn't apologize once, only said "no problem! Good luck 👍🏻".
Bottom line- It seemed if you're not a reality celebrity or blogger sharing her work, you probably won't be treated like you matter, regardless of what she's being paid.
She is a brilliant artist and conducts her business with utmost professionalism. She is also flexible for your appointments and can offer more than one location to hold the trial b...
ased on what's most convenient for both of you. Besides being beautiful and cool, her talent is a rare find. I've been in many weddings, and as a good bridesmaid, had to oblige the bride and get my makeup done by the people she hired. It's tough to stand up there on the alter and smile while feeling SO self conscious about the ridiculous makeup job you got or flat/falling-out hair.
What's also really important is who the additional person is that she will hire if she can't do everyones hair and makeup within a reasonable time. I've been done-up by the "assistant" and they usually don't have half the talent as the main girl. Which isn't fair when you're having to pay for your makeup to be done, but have no choice in the matter. Devon can spot talent in other artists and has been in the business so long that she has an A-team of assisting artists. As it turns out, they're not even assistants, they are their own business owners like herself who just happened to not have another wedding of their own that day. I think that's a way better strategy to keep the work high quality, better than the other bridal teams I've seen before. It's funny the random knowledge you pick up while wedding planning, right?
Now to the brass tacks and the "you get what you pay for" lecture: Devon is not the cheapest artist around, but she's also not ludicrously expensive either. She's quality that you have to pay a little extra for, and worth splurging a bit for something this important. If I had to do my wedding over again, I'd put my budget on the photographer and the hair and makeup team FIRST, the rest is just background!!! When it comes to budget juggling (the biggest hurtle during my wedding planning), just think - what are people going to actually remember- the details on the tables? or if you and your party looked under or overdone and weren't very happy? Also, how everyone feels is how they will behave. Feeling great = confidence, beautiful photos, carefree fun ...whereas feeling embarrassed/self-conscious = wasted money, awkward pics, have to get drunk to have fun (haha.. you know it's true!!). I hope that what I've learned along the way will help any of you brides out there!
