I attended a wedding in Nebraska last Saturday night, and this band was playing. That is, was *supposed* to be playing. They didn't start until about 8:20, as they were still loading in on a flatbed truck during the cocktail hour. After about 5... songs, they saw some typical (and beautiful) Nebraska cloud lightning many miles away, and immediately loaded out all their gear! I think I felt two raindrops, and it was over. Why in the world did this band not have tarps to cover their equipment on an outdoor gig just in case? You cover the gear and unplug everything, wait five minutes and get back out there and play! They claimed it was only a 2% chance of rain, so they didn't bring any - then sat around for an hour saying they were afraid of lightning while the party continued outdoors and every local person who had a weather app knew the 'storm' was no where near the party.
We came up with a solution that they re-set up underneath the deck (which should've been done immediately). Their second load in took another 90 minutes and they retook the stage at 10:45-11 with the female singer making casual excuses like 'things happen, unpredictable weather happens etc' with zero apologies for their poor management. Meanwhile, the outdoor reception went on as scheduled with zero rain all night! They didn't even set up the cocktail amp to keep any music going for the first 45 min after they broke down! Between their two super short sets I guarantee they didn't even play 15 songs the entire night. I can't believe I have to write a review like this, as I'm also a musician who has worked hundreds of weddings and try to be supportive of other acts - but I am telling you straight up: I have NEVER seen a band just stop playing at an event and load out their gear like that - literally never in my life have I seen a more unprofessional display! I feel just awful for my friend (the bride!) who hired them and hope she got some money back, which I doubt.
Also, just as a performance note, how can your singer say "here's one of our favorites that we've been playing for years" (Bruno Mars) but keep their eyes glued to reading lyrics off an ipad?? Everyone has heard this song 10,000 times but you can't even memorize the simple chorus and breakdown of 'Uptown Funk' - that you say you've been "playing for years"?? the few songs they played there was no crowd interaction, the performances were just so so, and it was clear the singers had not even memorized the lyrics to the most basic wedding songs. Without a doubt, this was THE most unprofessional band I've ever seen at a wedding, just another reason for you to hire a DJ.
