DJ Derek Tobler

Our number one goal for our wedding was a crowded dance floor, and Derek made that happen! He did a great job incorporating our preferences into his playlist, and was an awesome MC.

When Steven and I talked about which vendors to prioritize for our wedding, having a great DJ was our number one priority. We love to dance, and we couldn't wait to bring all our loved ones together on the dance floor. After researching and interviewing many DJ's in the Charlottesville area, Steven and I decided on DJ Tobler, and we could not be happier with our decision!! From the onset, Derek was always extremely timely, kind, and professional in his communications with us. We were able to witness his DJ skills before our wedding at 2 different events, and we were incredibly proud to say he was our chosen wedding DJ. At both events, he brought people of all ages to the floor and took great pride in his job. A few months later, we met again for a dance lesson to help us choreograph our first dance. He was so fun to work with, and we had a dance we absolutely loved by the end of the lesson! He even edited our song to match our moves and incorporated a lift. We met with him again for a combined father-daughter dance, mother-father dance, and final first dance practice lesson, and it went so well! He made us all feel comfortable and have so much fun. We were all confident in our dances by the end of the lesson. The evening before the wedding, I was very stressed to see rain forecasted during our ceremony. I emailed Derek asking if there was any way that he could be a last minute backup music plan for the ceremony in case the string quartet couldn’t play with the rain, and he quickly replied that he would be more than happy to. During the wedding, he clearly took our music tastes and requests into consideration and curated a playlist and energy of our dreams. The mics and sound system functioned flawlessly, and all his announcements were wonderful! The dance floor was full of our loved ones of all ages. To top it all off, he even planned a private dance for Steven and me at the end of the night before our sparkler exit to one of our favorite songs. I give Derek my highest recommendation!

Derek is amazing! He is calm, confident and such a source of ease on your wedding day. He was there through our many music requests and COVID related wedding changes and we are so grateful for him. We also used Derek for dance lessons for our first dance and we absolutely recommend it to everyone! He is a natural teacher and makes that fear of awkwardly swaying in front of all your guests disappear. Hire him now, you will not regret it!

Choosing Derek as our DJ was such a great choice! He was so communicative, organized, and easy to work with. He made the process of choosing our music so easy. The day of the wedding, he was such a professional and great emcee for the evening. Derek is obviously very skilled at his job, and knows just how to keep a party going! So many of our guests (and I mean almost every single person!) commented on how fantastic the dance music was. Everyone was on the dance floor all night! Derek was also super flexible and helpful when we had to reschedule our wedding due to COVID. I absolutely recommend hiring Derek!

Derek is one of several vendors who we needed to reschedule with once our wedding was pushed back a year due to COVID. Derek was completely understanding and, once we were finally leading up to our big day, was just so easy to work with. Both my (now) husband and I have a musical background so the ceremony and reception playlists were of particular importance to us. Derek listened to our vision, made suggestions where needed, and expertly improvised throughout the reception based on how our guests were engaging on the dancefloor. It was a nonstop party with just enough of our preferences injected into the repertoire. He also coordinated perfectly with our wedding venue (Veritas Vineyard & Winery), videographer (Ian's Creations), and the bluegrass band we had playing during cocktail hour and part of the reception (The Whiskey Rebellion). Derek is a total professional and working with him was an absolute pleasure!

Derek was incredible at our wedding! He handled all of the sound for the entire event, and it went off without a hitch. During the reception, he seamlessly incorporated our song requests with others that provided a great mix for all ages. A true professional that makes your planning process really easy and your wedding so much fun!

Derek did such a great job DJing our wedding ceremony and reception! He was really easy to work with and made the experience so seamless. He barely needed any direction and did a great job reading the room. He did a perfect mix of music that was fun for all ages. There were no dead periods where the music changed and everyone left the dance floor. He also received minimal song requests because he did such a great job. I would definitely recommend Derek!!!

Derek was so helpful throughout our planning process! When we switched dates due to COVID, Derek could no longer DJ our wedding, but he connected us with Justin Goodman, an affiliate DJ. Justin was super easy to talk to and share our vision for the night. He also was happy to add ceremony music to our event when our ceremony location fell through due to COVID rescheduling. He helped us brainstorm what types of music we wanted to hear and the vibe we were going for on our special night. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the dance floor. We would recommend Justin to anyone getting married in the Charlottesville area!

Derek is beyond the average wedding DJ. He is truly thoughtful and talented. He honored an entire Spotify playlist that was mismatched, random, and cliche. Against all odds, he made it fun. Not only that but he creatively used songs that I was interested in to transition people between dances and toasts. I do not necessarily remember every song he played, but I remember thinking, "WOW! What a great time to play this song." (It was a time we were waiting for people to transition in for the father daughter-dance, and he played a Heaven by the Walkmen, which was a request.) He does not belittle your music requests, but enhances them with his own. He was such a great vendor, and I cannot recommend him enough.

Derek was our DJ for our June wedding at the Market at Grelen. He did such a wonderful job throughout our wedding day. Derek was easy to talk to about the details leading up to our big day. He kept everyone dancing during our reception and transitioned different parts of the night very smoothly. Derek goes so far and beyond to make you sure you feel comfortable and are having a blast on your wedding day. We are SO happy and grateful we were able to have him as our wedding DJ!

Derek is hands-down the best DJ available in the Charlottesville area! He's super easy to work with, has great audio equipment (for both ceremony and reception), knows all of the local venues and vendors, and is the perfect emcee to help direct your evening. Most importantly, though, he can read a crowd. He had our dance floor packed shoulder-to-shoulder all. night. long. We had so many compliments. He totally killed it. Highly recommend!

Derek was fantastic! We planned our wedding out of state and he made the process so easy. He was very responsive to our requests and guided us through the process of planning the music for the entire wedding. We ended up just giving him guidelines for the reception and he did a phenomenal job. A great mix of music that had everyone dancing! Would highly recommend!

We have only great things to say about Derek. He was phenomenal to work with. From our first meeting, Derek was engaging and offered great suggestions about the playlist. On the day of, he was responsive to last minute changes (including bad weather) and played an amazing set of songs. Several friends told us after the wedding that they'd wanted to sit down during the reception but never got the chance to because there was never a bad song. Thank you, Derek, for your amazing work.

Most people know that when you plan a party, you absolutely want to be sure you have great music to keep the atmosphere energetic and to get people moving, and a wedding reception is no exception. If you are looking for someone who will make sure to play the music you love and balance that with keeping your guests entertained and moving on the dance floor, you need look no further then Derek Tobler! My husband and I cannot say enough good things about his wedding DJ skills! During the booking process and leading up to the wedding, he was very attentive to our wishes and requests and made sure we felt comfortable with his process. We met with him ahead of time, and he was very organized but also very flexible. We had a very specific song list we wanted and he made sure to let us know he would absolutely play those, but also that he could create a great mix based on our music preferences if we wished. So whether you have a very specific song list or would rather have someone do that for you, you are in very good hands! We booked a string trio for our ceremony and cocktail hour, so we only asked for him to do the dinner and dancing, and he was phenomenal! He knew exactly the right moments to introduce people and events and was a fabulous MC, leading people politely and succinctly from entrances, to toasts, to cake cutting and then out to the dance floor for first dance. He also let everyone know when it was last call, when the garter/bouquet toss was going to occur and closed the night with our last song. He brought in all his own equipment, as well as did all the set up and tear down, so it was hassle free for us. We could not have been more pleased with Derek! We highly recommend booking him to any couple hoping to make their wedding a roaring success!

We couldn't have asked for a better DJ for our wedding last month! Derek was so easy to work with, had tons of suggestions for us, and was open to all of our ideas. We wanted something special made for the recessional, and Derek listened to our ideas and made it come to life! We received so many compliments from guests about his ability to read the crowd and take suggestions. We would HIGHLY recommend him and can't thank him enough for making our wedding the best night of our lives.

Derek was recommended to by our caterer, Harvest Moon. They raved about how great he was and especially how easy it was to work with him. Naturally, we love taking recommendations but in reading the other positive reviews online it really sealed the deal! Derek truly is the best in the area – he made us feel comfortable and genuinely showed an interest in the style of our wedding in order to perfectly match the music we liked. We received so many complements from guests on how much they enjoyed Derek! We were told when we first started wedding planning that the DJ is the MC for the night and a great DJ will keep the flow of the evening – Derek exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended and worth every penny!!

DJ Derek Tobler brought down the house with the music selection, MC'ing, monogram spotlight, flow of the night and great equipment. My wife and I's musical taste would not be considered Top 40. DJ Tobler worked with us to craft a selection of music that appealed to our tastes and the those of our guests. From #1 singles to obscure B-Side hidden gems, DJ Tobler was able and willing to help find us the right songs for all of our most memorable moments. DJ Tobler kept the party going, made amazing intros for the bridal party, played classic rock; all the while being extremely professional, curtious and helpful. My wife and I would highly recommend DJ Tobler for any wedding or event. No matter what your musical proclivity may or may not be, DJ Tobler will find the right mix or music, energy and structure to keep the party rolling!

Found Derek on this website. OMG he was so awesome. He made the night very fun. He was extremely professional prompt and courteous. We had lots of compliments on the DJ and the music lineup. He has to be the best I have ever seen. Highly recommend.

Derek was an amazing DJ!!! Our planner told us to book him right away because he books super fast in Charlottesville, and we are SO glad we did. We talked with him on the phone about a month before our wedding and discussed all of the must-plays for the big day. We wanted to come out to a song that needed an edited version, and he immediately found what we wanted. He also timed all of our (very random) must play requests PERFECTLY and took a last minute request for our first dance. His expertise helped transition our big day into an AWESOME party. We can't recommend him enough!

Derek was a great DJ for our Wedding. He played all the songs we requested. We gave him a bit of artistic freedom, and he did a really good job reading the crowd and picking music that everyone enjoyed. It kept everyone (including me) on the dance floor all night! He's very easy to work with; all of our other vendors were happy to be working with Derek. He's very professional; he always responds to emails and calls. I would definitely recommend him!

DJ Derek Tobler is the best. We got married in August 2014 with an outdoor ceremony. Derek set up the audio for the ceremony and it was crystal clear and did not sound like a bad PA system. Having attended other weddings where this was an issue, we were very thankful. Derek worked with us to give dance lessons and choreograph our first dance, which was perfect. He also added some lighting to the event at a reasonable price. Most importantly DJ Derek Tobler was an amazing emcee and provided great music for the entire evening while we and our guests danced the night away.

In planning my Charlottesville, wedding, I spent 2 days meeting with vendors including Derek. I knew Derek was the right choice before we met. The wedding planner said 'No need to even meet him - if he is available, book him NOW' and the minister said "i'm SO glad you hired Derek - he knows exactly how to set up the microphone for the ceremony just the way I like it'. The photographer also confirmed that Derek was a great choice. I met Derek and could feel his passion for being the BEST DJ. He has a collection of videos from the 80's he can show on a TV screen; he showed a collection of our photos from childhood that we provided; he spent time with us as a couple to understand our tastes in music to be played during the ceremony, during dinner and then dance music. He has lighting available to add more to the event. Derek is extraordinary! He is a great Master of Ceremonies and gets people to the dance floor. He will work with you to understand how you want announcements to be made and he keeps things running smoothly. We felt SO fortunate to have Derek as the DJ for our wedding. This is his profession and he LOVES his work and getting to know his clients. He's amazing! Highly recommend him!! You won't be disappointed! He's delightful! Hire him!!!

DJ Derek Tobler provided all of the music for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, including microphones and additional sound equipment in all locations. The music was fantastic and we danced the night away. He was willing to add music to his library and was very open to all of our suggestions/wants. We are still hearing fantastic feedback from our wedding guests and would recommend DJ Derek Tobler to our friends.

We used Derek for our wedding in October and he was fabulous! You are getting the most of your money because he really cares about the way the music sets the mood for your wedding. Derek also does dance lessons, which we did not use, but him and our photographer got down on the dance floor breaking out some seriously fantastic ballroom moves. If we had time we would have definitely gotten a couple lessons from him. Derek is more than just talented- he is a very friendly and sweet guy! Everyone was amazed at how great he was!

dj derek tobler has a reputation of being one of the best dj's in charlottesville, and he has more than earned this reputation. he was extremely professional every time we met with him, helped us find specialty songs (my dad wanted a version of isn't she lovely that was slower than stevie wonder's for our dance) and he mashed up a special first dance song for us that was romantic and had a salsa beat, which we loved because that is how we met. all of our guests, from age 3 to 90, were on the floor enjoying themselves. he even did an impromptu merengue lesson that everyone absolutely loved. he gave us a great deal on the uplighting and lighted monogram, which really added warm and class to the reception area. i HIGHLY recommend using him, but try to book early because his calendar fills up fast!!

Derek was a pleasure to work with. He provided audio for the ceremony and acted as MC and provided music for the reception. We chose to work with him after speaking with him by phone and reading the many positive reviews. It wasn’t until approximately two months before the event that we met with him in person. We provided him a short “play” and “do not play” list, but trusted that he would gauge the mood of the crowd in making selections – we were not at all disappointed. Overall, we were extremely happy with our choice. Pros: 1) helped to create an event timeline and provided great suggestions (obviously very knowledgeable), 2) was extremely responsive and easily reached via phone/email for questions, 3) chose appropriate music during the dinner and kept the guests on the dance floor later, and 4) was an energetic and tasteful MC to suit the occasion. Cons: None.

Derek did a great job, he made it fun for us and the guests- I have never seen a dance party get started so fast! He played everything we asked and the rest of the playlist were songs we loved even though we didn't tell him to play them-he was able to fee out our style and taste and go with it. He made us a sweet edit of 2 songs together for our first dance. He also gives dance lessons, and was able to teach us enough to impress in just one lesson. He did the music for the ceremony too which made things easier. I highly recommend!

I highly recommend Derek to anyone looking for a DJ in the Charlottesville area. He was extremely pleasant to work with, and did so much more than just play music for our wedding. He choreographed our first dance for us and we had weekly dance lessons with him before our wedding, which were some of the most fun and relaxing times we had leading up to our wedding. He also coordinated the timeline of everything at the ceremony, cockatail hour and reception for us so we didn't have to worry about a thing. He's even the one who came to check that I had remembered to have my dress bustled up before we went into the reception and dancing- which of course I hadn't remembered, so thankfully he did! He was just amazing from start to finish! Not to mention, he played great music all night long (and was very flexible about staying to play later than we had originally planned), set everything up for a couple of our guests who wanted to sing a song for us, surprised us with having us sing a song together that we had done for karaoke on our first date, and emceed the evening to keep it all running perfectly smoothly!
