We had been to an event she had previously worked, and loved her music, so we were super excited to have DJ Nixx at our wedding.
She was initially great when we met with her to go over what we wanted when we booked her, but after that we hand...led all communications over email, and I'm wondering if that was the right choice.
In retrospect, I wish we had requested an additional meeting with her to go over all the final details on what would happen when, and maybe asked to see her playlist before so I could veto any songs she had chose.
I specifically told her, emphatically and more than once, that I didn't want a motown feel and specifically shot down her suggestion of the song "Shout!" as I thought it was over played at weddings. I also wanted more of a 80's new wave/goth vibe for music, and didn't think that song would fit.
She played it anyway.
I don't know if she forgot (again), or just felt like she knew better than me for what should be played. I get that she's the professional DJ, but I was the bride and just wanted a different vibe for the music.
There was also a misunderstanding about the last dance/send off songs. She had recommended that we do a last dance so we have one last moment on the dance floor, and then we would have our send off. We had picked "Strange Magic" by ELO for the last dance, and "Run Away with Me" by Carly Rae Jepsen for the sparkler send off.
She got these songs mixed up.
She warned us Last Dance was coming and got ready to slow dance again like we did at First Dance, and "Run Away with Me" starts playing. We were very confused.
We rolled with it, and danced and twirled to it with our guests surrounding us. It was fine.
Then everyone went outside to light the sparklers and she comes down to us and says, "Are you ready for your last dance?"
I said, "That was it, you mixed up the songs, now we have nothing to run out too."
I never would have imagined that she intended the "last dance" to be just us in the empty ball room, while everyone's sparklers are burning down. Those things have a finite time limit.
She said, "Do you want me to play Strange Magic now?," and I said, "No, it's fine, that won't really make any sense."
And she goes, "...I'm just gonna play it anyway."
Ok, I guess do what you want.
Overall it was, fine. Everyone danced and had a great time. It just wasn't perfect.
...
My dress straps broke right after the ceremony, and I spent a large part of the evening having coordinators try and pin them/sew them back on, only to have them keep breaking again. However, the last time they broke, Nikki came down and tied them around my neck like a halter which lasted the rest of the night, so she deserves credit for that at least.
