We went with this DJ on numerous recommendations and reviews online. He has a large following and is pretty popular in the area. However, we had a poor experience with him for our Indian wedding reception.
Our initial meeting with him to... plan out all of the events and details seemed to have gone well. He was very particular about when to do what and how to organize each performance planned during the evening. However, on the day-of, after having talked in detail about the importance of our choreographed first dance, and how we needed to be ON the dance floor before it started playing, he started playing our song while we were sitting at the head table! Needless to say, as non-professional dancers, we were unable to catch up with the song and it did make us completely uneasy. The dance was not NEARLY what it could have been, only because DJ Yogi was too busy coordinating his own agenda instead of paying attention to the actual wedding couple.
Second, we went with a Bollywood dance troupe on his recommendation. Told that they were "amazing, the best in the area," we decided to go with them. We were told there would be at least 6 dancers, but when we got there only 3 showed up. Their performance was horrendous-even our friends (who are not professional dancers) who had performed that day were far superior to these "professional" ones. To make matters worse, the dancers were found by multiple guests at the bar trying to get drinks. We were completely appalled.
Finally, the music, while it kept our guests dancing, was NOTunique. In fact, I'm certain I've heard most of those compilations on late-night radio, and I was not at all impressed. While people were dancing, he kept yelling comments over the mic that were obnoxious, rather than motivating.
Overall, I would have rather DJ'ed my own reception on an iPod. Would never go with this guy again.
