My husband and I could not have picked a better venue for our wedding reception!!! The Horizon Room at the DECC provides a simple setting that you are able to make your own, with an incredible view of the Lake Superior harbor and famous lift bridge. You are paired with your own wedding planner who walks you through every detail of the reception and is easy to contact with any questions that arise. Annette was incredibly creative and agreed to our unorthodox request of having a brunch buffet rather than a traditional dinner. Although they had never done that before, the kitchen and staff did a wonderful job and we're still receiving compliments on the food!! We were able to have the dance floor and bar in the foyer following dinner, with the lit harbor in the background. I highly recommend the DECC to anyone looking for the perfect Duluth venue!

The very first time I went to see the DECC, I knew I wanted to have my wedding there. My personal favorite was the Horizon room, which was $1200 for 6 hours. The room was perfect or 150 people, but could hold up to 200 if needed. There was a foyer reserved for this room just outside of the reception hall that we used for our social hour, which had a beautiful view of Lake Superior and the lift bridge. We also had our ceremony at the DECC for an additional $600, which included two dressing rooms nearby that were available to us for the day. We used the Gooseberry Falls Room for the ceremony, which had a beautiful mirrored ceiling and wooden floors, a very nice place. The DECC provides catering services, which are slightly spendier than what you would pay for an outside caterer, but worth the convenience and quality. We did the pasta buffet, and absolutely LOVED the cheese stuffed tortellini, the chicken was a bit dry, but overall we enjoyed our meal. In planning for the big day, we had a personal event planner that took emails/phone calls/personal meetings whenever needed, she was VERY VERY helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. My only complaint would be the lack of communication/service on the actual day of the wedding. Throughout the course of the day, I did not have a single employee check in with me, to either ask me what I needed or tell me any details about the rooms/dinner/timeline etc... Luckily, a member of our wedding party had key access to the rooms we were using, as they were not unlocked for us when we arrived, and clearly not monitored so we could not trust to leave them without locking them. I had no idea how the buffet and meal would go, but our DJ luckily stepped in and ran the show once the social hour was over. The servers would not bring drinks to our head table during the meal, nor would the bar bring them over, which was slightly inconvenient, but otherwise no other issues for the night. Overall, I would have another event here, just make sure to ensure communication on the day of.

The DECC was just great to work with, you get your own event planner so every time you call them they know you and have your wedding on file. They didn't over charge for the space, everyone loved the exrta room in the Lake Superior Ballroom and I barely even noticed the staff. Great place and great value. The food was also very good.
