We found Eccentric International Chefs through our venue as one of their preferred vendors. They went above and beyond to accommodate us in the planning process. My fiancé and I were disappointed we couldn't do the cake tasting together as we lived in different states, but the staff were incredibly helpful and were able to pack the tastings "to-go" so I could take them with me on my trip and we could do the tasting together in person!
They were extremely helpful in the design meeting and everything turned out great on the day. The cake looked amazing and tasted even better!

BEWARE BRIDES TO BE!! We met Carl, chef & owner of this bakery at a bridal show in 2018 and tought his cakes were good (although he was the only one at this one show) he was very nice and seemed very professional about his work and his displays of wedding cakes were quite pretty for the show. Based on our experience with him we decided to schedule a cake tasting for our wedding coming up this year of September 2020 and met with his wife & owner Melina. She gave us a sample of 4 or 5 different cakes (2 of which we tasted at the bridal show) and honestly the flavors were not as great as I remember from the show but they were good enough. We went over details for our wedding, cake flavors, pricing, etc. She gave us a quote on our wedding cake and even offered to make some flavors not on the menu based on our specific likes, we loved the idea and discussed those as well during our tasting. I reached back to her this year to schedule this 2nd tasting of the flavors we would like to try and to book our cake with them but the response back was quite disappointing!! She tried to increase our price over $250dlls from our original quote given just 2 months before without prior notice or warning to us that her prices were subject to change. She also wanted to charge an extra $50dlls for a second tasting of flavors we discussed in person and never mentioned there would be an additional charge. During our tasting there was no mention from her that without deposit or signature she was gona raise her prices or we could risk paying more from the original quote she gave us. The quote had a "good until" section that she did not filled out meaning our quote had no expiration date yet she tried to raise our price from $750 to almost $1000dlls only 2 months after our meeting. I asked her to honor the original quote since she was not clear on her quote and Never said her prices were subject to change or offered to close a deal the day of our tasting and she refused stating she has the "right to raise her prices without signature or deposit" on contract, which I agree but not when you are not notified of such or given clear communication. She said her business prides themselves on integrity, flavors and their prices but I doubt this to be the truth since it wasn't my experience. I am glad though that this happened because after now reading some reviews on here I am afraid my wedding cake would had been a disaster would I had hired them and I am happy to be taking my business elsewhere and not provide any referrals or recommendations ever for them! If you're wow'd by their website, just wait 'till you go to their bakery. I want all the cakes! Carl was fantastic to work with, very attentive to details discussed for came design at the tasting. Eccentric International Chefs delivered the best cake ever to my wedding, I couldn't be happier, and I recommend them highly. :)
We got a small 9” cake to cut and 3 dozen cupcakes for our wedding. The cake was not only very pretty but tastes delicious. Unfortunately we didn’t get to taste the cupcakes but all our guests said they were marvelous. Highly recommend.
First off, if you have a vision of a design and had the actual Chef draw it out for you, KEEP A COPY OF THAT DESIGN! Our cake was so basic and plain (missing designs that we had agreed on), that we were just hoping that it at least tasted good. Also, I called them a week before the wedding to ask if I'd need to bring my cake topper to them so they can make sure it'll stay up and they said no. That they'll have a stand placed inside so that it wont fall. So they didn't have this "stand" and our topper apparently was sliding off to the side since the top layer was tilted and they had to place our topper at the bottom of the cake. If you do decide to get your cake here, communicate with them like crazy or have your wedding planner do so. The cake tasted good to a lot of our guests but not too all. Presentation failed.
We recently ordered our wedding cake and 100 cupcakes from Eccentric International Bakery. The staff here was super friendly each time we visited the bakery to provide payment, or colors, or discuss changes. On the day of the ceremony they arrived punctually, unloaded the cake and cupcakes onto the display area provided and left. If I wouldnt have been in passing when the vehicle was out front, I wouldnt have even known they were there. They arranged everything in advance and didn't need to even talk to me the day of the wedding. The cake and cupcakes all looked beautiful and tasted even better! We got married 10 days ago and we're still eating the cake. Its still delicious! The extra cupcakes went to work with us and we got several compliments from guests at the wedding as well as coworkers (several days after they were baked). They're prices were very affordable and helped us save a good amount of money on our expensive day. We would highly recommend working with them! I have been told that 5 stars is "standard" for wedding vendors that performed their duties as expected. I would definitely give more that 5 stars if I could!
Eccentric bakery was awesome. We're still getting compliments about how good all the deserts were. We had a dessert bar with all different treats. Everything was delicious. The owner is super nice and helpful! I would definitely recommend them!
We had a 3 tier cake with a sheet cake for our wedding. The wedding cake was delicious and super cute. The sheet cake was designed like a golf course because my husband loves to play, and it looked perfect! We did chocolate for the sheet cake, but didn't get a chance to eat any, which was a bummer. Eccentric was easy to work with, and delivered everything on time and in great shape!
We found Eccentric Cakes though our venue and we are glad we did. It is a small little shop that just had this family feel to it. We really enjoyed the cake tasting process. The cakes were fantastic. I think one of the best parts about working with Eccentric Cakes is that the owners have a friendship with our wedding coordinator. So we didn't have anything to worry about with the cake arriving. It tasted great and looked beautiful!
Plus they said they will make us a cake for our 1st wedding anniversary instead of saving our top tier of our cake for a year.
I ordered just a few from EIC. Carl was great. I had a set limit of $150. And he helped me with getting the most out of my budget. All of my guest enjoyed my dessert table filled with EIC's mini cupcakes, cream puffs and fruit tarts.
We had an outdoor wedding ceremony at a park overlooking the beach and then a dinner reception at a restaurant. Because of our San Diego/beach-y theme, we designed a cake with Melina that featured sugar corals and seahorses on the top and chocolate covered strawberries decorating the space between the two layers (we had spacers rather than stacking them). Everything turned out beautifully! It was a unique, gorgeous cake that also tasted really good!
We had two layers of white cake with a lemon filling on the top and a raspberry filling on the bottom. I really like their cakes because, since Carl is European, it's not super sweet like American cakes. This suited the tastes of my family really well since many of them are from Vietnam and find American desserts to be far too sweet.
The delivery to the restaurant where the reception was was prompt, and the cake arrived in perfect condition!
My wife and I changed our minds a few times during the course of planning our wedding, but we're so thankful we had these guys to take care of the cake for us. They worked with us to accommodate our changing ideas, but weren't afraid to call us out if something didn't make sense. The cake they delivered matched perfectly to the design, and tasted amazing! Delivery went smoothly. Very friendly and professional to work with. Highly recommend!
So moist! My only complaint is that there weren't enough fresh strawberries for my liking! Otherwise beautiful work and great flavor for a low price! No other bakery compares!
Eccentric Int'l Chefs was the first and only cake place we met with. We had a 4-tier cake, and everyone RAVED about it at the reception, many people admitted to having 2 slices. Carl and Melina are both professional and great at what they do. Our cake was delievered on time and was phenomenal! They also don't charge "per slice" which a lot of bakeries do...so that was nice!
What can I say that all our guests already haven't? Our cake experience was wonderful!!! They were very nice, helpful and the cake was so yummy. We were hooked up with them through Karl Strauss and we had the choice of them and another bakery. We chose eccentric because their cake was so good and their was no end to our options. They did cupcakes for us and different flavors and the set up was just what we had talked about!
When looking over the venue that my husband and I had chosen, this was the cake vendor at the open house. They had a couple samples to choose from, but they were both delicious. Instead of spending hours online looking for cake chefs, we went with what we tried and really enjoyed. We were able to meet with them and Chef Carl helped with the details of what we wanted and it was done. They were on time, answered all the concerns and work so great as husband and wife.
We opted for a cutting cake and cupcakes. Every cupcake was individually decorated, cream filled and the tops dipped in ganache. The cake was lovely. The price could not be beat. It was delivered and set up flawlessly. Carlo and Melina were detailed and so nice to work with. There were NO cupcakes left! Our friends and family are still talking about them! This reminds me I need to call and order more.
We used Eccentric Chefs for our wedding in September. They were extremely easy to work with and the price was really reasonable. The cake looked absolutely fabulous. The only detail that I didnt care for was the birds they put on the cake.It was a printed picture if they had used a stencil or not put it on it was would have looked better. The cake tasted AMAZING! My husband and I ended up eating the top of cake the next day after the wedding instead of saving it.
The cake was a part of the package that I purchased with my venue. When I first met with the baker "Marco" I thought everything was great, he was very confident and ensured me that everything would be great, and the cake tasted great as well. When I got the cake at the wedding it was completely juvenile. It looked like a 10 year old had decorated it and nothing like what we had discussed. I was greatly disappointed with the cake.
Great value, great cake. Loved the design. In fact I had a friends of a friend see the pictures of the cake that I didn't know that was asking about the cake and how they could get one like it. Apparently we ordered too much cake though, we had an entire half sheet left! Which was fine by my family; they enjoyed the rest over the course of a week :) Highly recommend.
By far, EIC makes the tastiest cakes in San Diego. Our wedding cake was delicious!! It was also stunning. Highly recommend!!
we tried many cakes while planning our wedding and this place by far has the best tasting wedding cake! even our photographers claimed that they go to hundreds of weddings and our cake was the best they have ever tasted as well!! This place is amazing in flavor!! and our cake was so beautiful!!
Our cake could not have turned out more perfect! We met with the owners a couple times before the wedding, once to test out cake flavors and talk about design, and the other to just confirm plans (and buy a couple cake slices to go)!! Located in Santee, in a tiny strip mall, you would never know that these amazing cakes come from this little bakery. The owners were so nice and helpful and totally open to our ideas, and I'm not exaggerating when I say they have the best cake I've ever tasted - and I'm a baker! The cake looked perfect at the venue, and was still fresh and delicious when it was time to eat it at night! The best part, was that I didn't have to spend an arm and a leg to buy my cake either. They are totally affordable! I would highly recommend Eccentric International Chefs to anyone!!

This is a company owned by a couple who do the baking. They have a cute bakery where you go to meet with them to discuss your wedding cake/cupcakes. I ordered a 6-inch square cake and about 200 cupcakes. Everyone at the wedding loved the cupcakes. They said they were moist and some of the best they ever had. I went to 3 other cake tastings prior to making an appointment with Eccentric International Chefs. I can honestly say that by far they were the best tasting and best priced! I would definitely go with this vendor in the future!
Such a friendly bakery and their cake is super tasty! Very reasonably priced! My fiance and I custom drew what we wanted our cake to look like and they matched it perfectly.
Eccentric was amazing! The cake was not only beautiful, but it was delicious! They gave me exactly what I asked for, and more! They gave me a 3 tiered cake, a groom's cake, and a freshly baked anniversary cake that they will make for free on our 1 year anniversary (that way we don't have to waste space in the freezer :) )--all for such a great price! They were so wonderful and accommodating, I will definitely go to them for any future cakes I may need!
The wedding cakes here are good if they weren't frozen. I was really surprised when my husband and I cut into our cake during the wedding reception. It was frozen!!! Many of our guests jokingly asked me if it was ice cream cake. I was very disappointed because I'm a big dessert person. This was what I really looked forward to after a long day. After the wedding, I notified them of the situation. They immediately offered me a partial refund. It wasn't much, but it was very nice of them to offer.
This family owned bakery is a hidden gem. The cake tasting was the best way to start the process. And getting to the reception and seeing the final product was wonderful!
I was on a budget and had no idea what I wanted for a cake. When I met with Melina (co-owner) she was so creative in providing ideas and working with our (limited) budget. She was absolutely sweet and a pleasure to work with. I have to admit, when my husband and I tasted the cake, we weren't completely impressed, but we decided to go with them based on the price. We ended up getting cupcakes with a top tier small round cake to cut. I gave her a design I found on the internet and she was able to do it with ease, so it ended up looking beautiful. Last but not least, I don't know what they did, but the cake and cupcakes ended up tasting delicious. One of my bridesmaids who is one of the pickiest dessert eaters I know said it was the best wedding cake/cupcake she had ever had! The only downfall was that I had to come up with my own cupcake stand, but that wasn't a big deal at all. Oh, and we had it for 100 guests.
mmmmmm the best cake I have ever had! Everyone wanted to know where i got the cake from! It was decorated nicely except it started to melt a little :( but it was kinda funny in the end!
I went in multiple times to make sure my cake was going to turn out right. I gave them swatches of the colors of my wedding so that they would incorporate them into the cake. The colors were completely wrong and there were supposed to be waves airbrushed on the side and it looked like a blue blob! I Was very disappoined!

First off, you must know that the cake was not a priority in my wedding planning.
I was trying to get a really cool looking cake (or as cool as I could get) with whipped cream frosting. Our reception was music themed and I had the idea to put music symbols and notes all over the cake.
Although their pricing was really reasonable, I feel as though there was a defninte trade off in presentation. My number one was that the cake had to at least taste good. Luckily, their cakes are amazing!
We didn't have any cake left over. Everyone ate two or three pieces of cake (good thing we bought extra)! My groom and I didn't get a chance to taste the german chocolate cake, but their classic fresh strawberry with bavarian cream in white cakew as the best!
Family owned, I really liked the customer service. Carl was a little less intense than Melina (these are the owners), so I really enjoyed working with him. Unfortunately I only got to speak with him at the end of the wedding cake planning road.
I recommend them, but stick to your guns on what you want your cake to look like and keep it simple :)
I love this cake! WHile they do not offer a whole lot of choises what they do have they do well. The cake was light and flavorful. I had 3 different tiers all with different flavors of cake and filling. And the sugar flowers were so beautiful. GO in a try them you can even have a breakfast sandwitch while you are haveing your consultation. They were ontop of everything and were always very polite and helpful.

For signing up at the Riverwalk, I got my cake for free.. The cake was good and they tried to make it look like the picture.. It wasn't great but good enough for being kinda free
The cake was good, a little frozen (that is what i was told) but overall delicious. One this I was upset about was that the cake given to us was not the cake we ordered.
Saw them at the bridal showcase at Del Mar and the cake was amazing! It was light at air! Went for an official tasting and it was just as good. We had 4 tiers with all different flavors. The bottom was neopalitan, the second was caramel apple, the third was strawberry and the top was pistachio. All the flavors were great. I'll be going back to them for any other cakes I need!
Eccentric makes delicious cakes! Our cake was included in the venue (Karl Strauss), but we had a few choices as to which bakery to choose. I am so grateful that Eccentric was one of our choices. People are still talking about how delicious the cake was. People packed it up and took the leftovers home with them!
The only disappointment, and why I gave them 4 stars instead of 5, was that the design was not what was discussed. The consultant drew a beautiful, thick scroll design and the real cake had a thin, gel scroll that was pencil thin. The cake was still nice, just a bit too simple. Now, keep in mind that since the cake was included in the venue, there may have been a budget that they had to stick to, but they shouldn't have drawn such a different sketch. We were expecting something completely different. They also changed the flavors that were discussed and ordered. It was still delicious, but not what we ordered.
Despite the design faux pas, I would actually use this baker again because the cake was so delicious. How many times have you gone to a wedding and the cake was beautiful, but it tasted mediocre? You will not get mediocre from Eccentric. You will get amazing!
About 2 weeks before we were to get married our cake vendor fell through. We met Eccentric International Chefs at the Bridal Bazaar in Del Mar and they were able to accomodate our wedding and our budget with short notice. On the day of the wedding, our cake turned out just as we had discussed. It tasted and looked amazing!
We were so pleased with our cake from Eccentric chefs. Melina had wonderful creativity with our cake design and it came out so amazing. And it was so delicious to boot! Great service, delivered and set up on time.
The cake was 3 tiers and beautiful. All 3 tiers were a different flavor and they were delicious. Everyone at the wedding raved about the cake. My cake was part of the Karl Strauss Restaurant package. I highly recommend them to anyone I know getting married in the San Diego area.
The wedding package with Karl Strauss includes a wedding cake by either Eccentric International Chefs or Edelweiss Bakery - after doing tastings and reviewing cake photos at each, we elected to go with Eccentric. Our cake turned out beautiful, and yummy!
My vendor package came with our wedding cake. We had two choices and we went with this one because the cake was moist and delicous. Melina designed EXACTLY what I asked for without a problem. Easy to work with and was delicious.
My cake was more beautiful than I imagined! We had a whipped cream frosting and it was so good. Everyone had a piece, even people who normally don't like sweets or have wedding cake. The cake was so light and refreshing. We had an outdoor wedding in August, and the cake held up well! They were very reasonable too. You could not get the serivce and great tasting cakes anywhere else!!!
A cake by Eccentric was included with my wedding package at Karl Strauss Breweries. It is a family owned and operated shop, so I received great, personal service. However, the cake did taste much better at the tasting in the shop than it did at the wedding. I liked how they let me create my own design for the cake (I wanted hand-painted lotus flowers), but the decorations were a little more sparse than I would have liked. The flowers were painted very nicely, but I would have loved more of them. Also, there were noticeable bubbles and warps in the fondant. I would recommend them for a more simple buttercream cake though. Maybe I am just harder to please than the average bride since I make wedding cakes too.
Absolutely amazing cake! So delicious! I had more guests ask for the name of who made the cake. We had a candy bar and special grooms cake cupcakes made- quite the hit! The guests loved them and loved being able to take more of the yummy cake home :)
Their pricing is unbeatable, I did several cake tastings- everything from lowest price at $2 to prices at $10 a slice. Eccentric beat them all! I am definitely going to be doing all my special occasion cakes with them!

My cake was the yummiest wedding cake I have ever had! It was delicious and so moist. We got whipcream frosting and it was light and went perfectly with the cake. They followed our design and we were very pleased.
These guys did a fantastic job on our wedding cake. My husband (fiancee at the time) really had an idea of what he wanted in a cake, and they really make it reality. Everyone commented on the beautiful and tasty cake. We had chocolate-covered strawberries added to it for a very reasonable price. I would recommend these guys to anyone. PS: Don't let their humble little store in Santee fool you. They make beautiful and delicious cakes.
We had cupcakes as well as a small cake. The cake was incredible! And the design was to die for! The cupcakes were just ok. They were dipped in white and dark chocolate instead of frosting. The vanilla cupcakes were great.;the chocolate cupcakes were vanilla with cocoa added and just tasted ok
We chose this baker due to the taste of the cake. We had a vanilla cake with strawberries and bavarian cream. It was the best cake we've ever had! Lots of compliments on the taste of the cake. They also offer a wonderful military discount.;The bakers can appear to be dis-organized. I would rate this as a high-maintenance vendor given their disorganization. Everything turned out fine but it's due to me and the wedding coordinator constantly communicating with them.
