I could write a book on Failure to launch…
But I won’t, in true FTL fashion, I’ll play the hits.
First off these folks are Pros, and since that’s the case you had better treat them as such. Not only do they deserve it, but you’ll feel silly you hadn’t after they wrap up.
They’re incredibly easy to work with and they under promise and WAY WAY, over deliver. Unlike a shady salesmen.
The wall of sound… We had an extended cocktail hour which is dangerous. I gave a drunken pep talk to FTL but in truth I just wanted to meet them and see they were happy. I believe I said something about blowing the doors off this place and how happy we were to have them.
Well, the opener was Tina Turners version of “Proud Mary” and that 3 hour cocktail hour sloshing around in our belly’s paid off because it turned into rocket fuel and we were off. And I shit you not I mean we were off! There was no failure to launch, we went galactic.
I spent the next half hour dancing and sweating through my tux, and as the groom I was making sure it wasn’t just me hearing this wall of sound. I was attributing bad hearing, inebriation, the joy of the day, I didn’t want to be overly biased towards our band.
Well what I was hearing, was in fact, what everyone else was hearing. A band fully in sync, keys in rhythm, horn section absolutely cranking, bongos rolling, singers in perfect harmony, the drumming never missed with the fills. It was magic. I was approached no less than a dozen times that evening asking who they were, how did I find them, and that they were the best damn band in cheese land.
The energy… see we didn’t want a normal band playing lack luster Tom Petty covers (RIP I love TP) but that’s not dancin’ music. We needed James Brown, Tina, Talking heads type energy. Not just the songs but the musicians themselves had to have that “thing”. Pretty tall order to be honest but boy did FTL have it.
It turned into a concert (bingo we did it) correction, FTL did it. Our crowd was on shoulders, hoisting my dense self up for a crowd surf, hitting them with “olé olé olé” every time they wrapped a jam. Our crowd refused to let them off the stage. We had 87 year old ladies dancing, I mean really dancing, everyone was dancing or some version of it lol.
So, if you want to throw a party that will be remembered for sometime, maybe forever, hire FTL. But… YOU, and your guests, had better be ready. Because you have indeed just boarded a rocket ship.
And yes, I wrote a brief book. Get over it, hire the band, make them welcome and buckle up.
And shout out to the sound guy, Jon. Guys awesome got the best pics of the night. Check out their Instagram @ftlmke were wedding with his holiness the Dhali Llama who was in attendance😉
We had Failure to Launch perform at our wedding on 9/14 & they absolutely rocked it! The communication leading up to the wedding and their attention to our requests were spot on. They even let my husband go on stage to join in for a special feature! Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a live band at their wedding!!!
I would give FTL 100 stars if I could! There's a reason why they're Milwaukee's #1 wedding band and #1 cover band! They are so easy to work with. Scott (their DJ) did a fantastic job with all of our ceremony music, cocktail hour music, grand march, and dinner music. The band absolutely crushed it! They had everyone from age 2 to age 86 out on the dance floor!!! 100% worth it and some of my favorite memories were made because of them!!! Will be following them at local festivals including Summerfest and State Fair because they were JUST. THAT. GOOD!
