Gaby & Rebecca were unbelievably talented to work with, doing my hair and makeup trial. I can't wait for the anticipated day, when they will do my daughter's, sister's, and mother's wedding styles and makeup. Gaby was in frequent contact with m...e about what I wanted. Her shop was very easy to find for the Trial Run.
Rebecca was absolutely fantastic. I have never pampered myself in that way, never had a manicure, pedicure, or massage. I showed her some of my makeup palettes and favorite lip color. She zeroed in on it and got it perfect!! I told Rebecca that I still wanted to look like myself, but that photography "washes out" a lot of my facial color. Rebecca applied one palette that complimented my skin tones, then went a little darker after we discussed the look. She was able to slightly widen my thin lips, while the color application still looked natural.
I was very impressed with the quality of the makeup used. The lip color did not feather. The eye makeup, concealer, air brush-applied makeup, blush, and setting powder did not budge all through my evening work., even though my face perspired slightly. Also, as I am an older bride, I told Gaby that I did not want thick makeup to crease into the fine lines around and underneath my eyes. My facial features looked just as smooth ten hours later as they did when I left the salon.
For my hair style, I did not know exactly what I wanted, only that I wanted some looseness to the style and soft curls framing my face. I also asked if Rebecca could style my hair slightly offset to one side, since pulling my hair straight back accentuates my too-large nose in comparison with the rest of my petite and narrow face. When Rebecca was finished pinning my hair, I told her that on the actual wedding day I had wanted my hair a little "piecier" and looser. I was prefectly fine with the trial. Much to my surprise, Rebecca unpinned what she had already done, curled more of the hair to be pulled back, and re-worked the entire style. It looked exactly as I had described to her. She also gave me good tips for her to have feedback for the actual Wedding Day. For example, let her know if I thought I needed more pins; did the curls stand up to our New Orleans' humidity?, etc.
I went to work in downtown New Orleans straight from this Trial Run session, so my hair style got the "wind test" of gusts ripping off the Mississippi River while I walked to work. I am very busy at work, and my hair still looked gorgous when I was through. The pieces that she left curled and hanging still had some curl left in them.
Altogether, this was a fantastic experience. Both Gaby and Rebecca listened to my vision of how I wanted to look, both in regard to darker makeup than I usually wear and not looking like someone else. I didn't want anyone who viewed my wedding book to wornder, "Who the heck is that??" They also listened and understood that I have course, straight hair that frizzes in humidity. And most importantly, Rebecca helped me find an offset, elegant hair style that helped to not accentuate my nose when all of my hair was pulled up and back.
These women are extremely patient, talented, and work at terrific prices. I will use them again in a few months for my daughter's wedding. The session was fun and well-documented, with Rebecca photo-bombing all of my Progress Selfies. This was so much fun!
