Operating out of Annapolis, Maryland, Fat Rabbit Cakes is a trendy bakery known for crafting deliciously decadent wedding confectionary. Driven by an insatiable desire to bake scrumptious goods, this locally-owned business is dedicated to its art. Excited partners can have their wedding cake custom-designed to reflect the love they have for one another.
Fat Rabbit Cakes is the brainchild of Ellyn Hopper, a down-to-earth creative who is inspired by her profession. Initially, she studied Art History at the University of South Carolina. Her heart had always pulled towards her love for baking, and so that is what she became, a very talented one at that. Years later and Ellyn continues her work with fervor and dedication. She believes that her creations are the source of so much joy on a special occasion.
Ellyn offers a range of cake styles that include six and nine-inch cakes, tall and traditional tier cakes, as well as a larger sheet cake. If your wedding is in the Annapolis area, Ellyn and her team offer delivery and set up completely free of charge. In addition, Fat Rabbit Cakes can create tantalizing baked goods that adhere to specific dietary requirements. This includes vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and lactose-free.

Our Fat Rabbit cake was amazing! We were doing donuts for dessert but decided last minute to get a small cake for ourselves. We ended up just doing a normal cake order because of t...
he timing but we are so glad we did! We ordered “The Squeeze,” and it was delicious. The cake was moist and the lemon buttercream was incredible. It was so beautifully decorated we almost didn’t want to cut into it! Highly recommend, and don’t forget to pick up a few pastries if you go to the store to pick up the cake.
Everything was perfect—from the stunning design to the incredible flavors. Fat Rabbit truly exceeded our expectations. Our guests are still talking about how amazing the treats wer...
e, and we couldn’t agree more. Each bite was a delight, and the presentation was just as impressive. They brought our vision to life with such creativity, care, and professionalism. We’re so grateful for their talent and the love they put into your work.
We hired Fat Rabbit to make our wedding cake. They came highly recommended and our cake tasting was amazing. Our wedding cake design was exactly what we wanted - it looked just lik...
e what we envisioned and was so gorgeous - but, unfortunately, the cake itself was not great. The whole cake was dry and lacked flavor. There were barely any berries or ganache inside and the icing was very thick and stiff which meant you were eating more icing than cake. Many of our guests did not finish their slices. Our cake consisted of two custom flavors (straight-forward olive oil cake with berries and chocolate cake with berries and ganache), but in hindsight, we wonder if we should have gone with one of their “tried and true” flavors instead. Despite the disappointment in our cake overall, we really enjoyed working with the Fat Rabbit staff. They were so helpful, answered all of our questions, and executed our design request well. They were also diligent about my husband’s nut allergy and ensured the cake did not come into contact with allergens in the bakery; it was actually the first time he was able to eat wedding cake at a wedding. Overall, we loved working with the staff, but we just wish our cake had tasted great too!
We had an absolutely outstanding experience with Ellyn and the team at Fat Rabbit! After we tasted Fat Rabbit's cakes a few years ago, we knew that we wanted FR as our wedding cake...
vendor. Ellyn made the process smooth and seamless. Our cake tasting was such a fun experience complete with coffees and a cute set-up in a cozy corner of her bakery. Ellyn and her team were welcoming, open-minded, creative, supportive, and excellent partners. And our cakes were absolutely gorgeous and tasted fantastic! We chose two flavors - the Bunny Crack and Dark and Bluesy. Still dreaming about both of those flavors :) Not to mention that over two months later, I still have friends and family telling me that our wedding cakes were the best they'd tasted. I could not recommend Fat Rabbit more heartily!
Okay, so i didn’t order a wedding cake from them per se, our wedding was small enough that i simply ordered a cake. This review is on the cake only; but let me tell you that the ca...
ke was good enough that it deserves its own review. My MOH raved about it. It was luscious and absolutely beautiful. I felt it was beautiful enough to be a wedding cake. The service was wonderful as well. If i got married with the big event, I’d still get my wedding cake from fat rabbit.
The most beautiful, delicious cakes in all the land. Our guests could not stop talking about the cake and we’ve been enjoying it still 5 days later! So many flavors to choose from ...
and all of them are DELICIOUS. Seriously. Best cake ever. Also Ellyn is the best ever. So easy to work with and made our cake dreams come true!
Beyond delicious, we actually ordered extra cake on purpose so we could have plenty of leftovers. We ordered Fat Rabbit's pumpkin spice cake and salted caramel apple cake for our f...
all wedding. We also ordered 3 flavors of mini pies for an alternative dessert to cake: cherry, peach, and dark chocolate blueberry. The pies were gone before we realized it! We also got dark chocolate pear and sage goat cheese scones for the day-after brunch. We received so many compliments from family and friends about the desserts! On top of the taste, the cake's appearance was beautiful, we got a semi-naked cake with a salted caramel drip also decorated with flowers. Ellyn is so talented and a pleasure to work with - she answered all questions quickly and even gave me the name of another vendor for appetizers because it wasn't something that she could provide for us. We will be going to Fat Rabbit for desserts for other events in the future!
Ellyn makes incredible desserts. As beautiful as they are delicious! We ordered a small cake and dozens of cupcakes and pies for our wedding day. The order process was easy, choosi...
ng from tons of reasonably priced options, many super unique flavors and options (and of course the basics, too!). Ellyn delivered on time and all our guests loved everything! Highly recommend booking Fat Rabbit for your wedding!
Ellyn and Fat Rabbit were a dream to work with! Our guest couldn’t get enough of our cupcakes and even started hoarding them to be able to take home for later. I had Ellyn decorate...
our cake with florals and gave her creative freedom, the flowers and the cake were PERFECT and our whole dessert table was straight out of a Pinterest perfect photo. Fat Rabbit has also fueled us while we have been working from home with HopTarts and other sweets, and with pies for the holidays. We can’t get enough, and glad we don’t have to ever stop with so many non wedding options. Can not recommend Fat Rabbit enough.
Our cake was beautiful and-- most importantly-- very delicious. Ellyn was a delight to work with, and she could definitely charge more than she does!
From start to finish Ellyn was amazing!!! We had her make 3 cakes for our wedding & our guests are STILL talking about them months later. Her creativity & flavor combinations are s...

r tasting, but ended up going with an amazing Hummingbird Cake for our outdoor June wedding! We chose a minimalist white frosting topped with dainty flowers to tie in the colors of my bridesmaids dresses. It was simple, elegant and perfect. The cake was exactly the right size, tasted out of this world, and looked stunning. FRC was perfect: delicious, customizable, so affordable, and so enjoyable to work with ❤️
