We had never been to Fernwood before and we fell in love with it at first sight! I had to do my planning from a distance, and Linda (the wedding coordinator) was wonderful to work ...
with. She answered all of my questions (and there were a lot!), and she was gracious and accommodating. She made sure everything was perfect, right down to the last detail. The rest of the staff was great. Everyone was friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. We used their golf cart service, which was an awesome addition! It made getting around the property a breeze. I can't say enough nice things about this venue and its amazing staff. If you're thinking of having your wedding here, do it! It's gorgeous!

look fantastic. This site has several outdoor options for the ceremony site, and countless places for photo ops.
Having the extra time after the Ceremony for photos ended up making this site a great value, because guests are permitted a free pass to the gardens on the day of the wedding (normally $6). We liked that our guests had the chance to enjoy the beautiful day, and space while we were busy with photos.
There were a few negatives about the site. They were extremely difficult to get ahold of when first attempting to book them. Also the room that my bridesmaids and I were given to get ready in was really hot, and was not closed off to the public in a timely manner. Keep in mind that the garden does not close for your wedding, so there will be other visitors at the garden. All of the strangers were respectful of our privacy, though.
The beauty of the site overrides these negatives, I think.
We did not have our reception there, but you are required to use their house chef, "Chef Tim," if you do. I thought that seemed a bit silly, but when we had lunch there before the start of the ceremony, it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had.
I recommend this place for your special day, or at least a visit. It is a hidden gem in the Michiana area.
