We had our dream wedding at Flat Mountain Farm. We wanted a location that really shared our love for nature and the outdoors where we could have a natural environment with the eleg...
ant touches that Margaret’s eye for design provided.
Having the property for the entire weekend was amazing. Our entire wedding party was able to be accommodated to stay on the property and enjoyed all the amenities and activities like the hot tubs, fire pits, and the guys really enjoyed fishing.
We had an amazing lakeside ceremony and partied the night away in the Scandinavian styled barn. Because I’m not a night person it was heavenly to just be able to sneak away to the airstream on property after the night was over and get an amazing night of sleep without the stress of needing to make it to another hotel.
10/10 would recommend Flat Mountain (:
What a beautiful venue! Our daughter and son-in-law had their rehearsal, rehearsal, dinner, wedding, ceremony, and reception at this wonderful venue tucked away in Highlands. Owner...
s, Margaret and Chris Shutze are so accommodating and have transformed this property into a beautiful place to celebrate any occasion. The Ren, The Kingfisher, and The Chickadee all provided an elegantly comfortable place on site that accommodated the wedding party and the newlyweds. We had several options from which to choose where the ceremony would take place. We chose a beautiful spot on the lawn, nestled close to the lake for the ceremony. The reception that was held in the barn was a short walk from the lake. The barn setting lends itself to any type of decorating, and our guests not only enjoyed the seating in the barn, and the back deck porch, but also enjoyed the outside area at the barn door opening. We had our post ceremony/pre-reception cocktail hour under a tent just outside the barn entrance. This made for a wonderful transition as the wedding party and family took photos. There are so many wonderful options available at Flat Mountain Farm. We are so happy that our children chose this magnificent venue for their wedding weekend.
Such a delightful venue for a picturesque wedding tucked away in the most beautiful mountains! Having grown up in Highlands, picking this venue was an easy choice when making such ...
an important decision regarding our June wedding.
We had access to the property the entire weekend and never felt rushed in planning out all the activities, from the rehearsal dinner to the post-wedding breakfast on Sunday morning. Margaret was extremely easy to work with and has such an eye for detail, going above and beyond to make the weekend special, with a gift bag for both the bride and groom- such a thoughtful touch :) The entire bridal party was also able to stay in the beautifully-decorated guest houses (with the added bonus of a personal hot tub at each house). Memories we will cherish for a lifetime!
We were undecided about the location of the ceremony and Margaret was very understanding and allowed us to decide last minute to have a lakeside ceremony, that could not have been more perfect! The property has an endless supply of stunning locations for your photographs, including a mountaintop view that’s idyllic during golden hour. The Airstream tucked away next to the waterfall was one of our favorite spots on property. Waking up with the love of my life, accompanied by a hot cup of french-pressed coffee was a moment I’ll never forget.
If you’re thinking about booking an event with Flat Mountain Farm, don’t hesitate- you won’t be disappointed!
We looked high and low for a venue that met all of our wedding desires and FMF has it all! From the tree lined pond as our ceremony backdrop to the modern barn for our reception, o...
ur guests were happy the entire time. Both families loved staying on the property in the beautifully restored cabins and all the bridesmaids were in awe getting ready in the kingfisher - perfect getaway for them! There are so many hidden photoshoot spots all around the property that your photographer will appreciate. Highly recommend your wedding here, especially in the fall! Margaret was so easy to communicate with!

he perfect venue for our wedding. I loved the concept of being able to stay on-site for our big day. My friends and I enjoyed a pre-wedding slumber party in The Kingfisher, and it was the perfect backdrop for getting ready the day of the wedding. The setting itself is so naturally beautiful, and the colorful fall leaves provided their own perfect wedding decor. We had a small, intimate ceremony, complete with lots of personal touches, which is another reason Flat Mountain Farm is special--they allow you to customize every element of your event. We got so many compliments from our guests about how stunning our wedding and venue were, and we can't wait to go back and stay to celebrate our anniversaries in the future!
I was lucky enough to be the first wedding held at Flat Mountain Farm. Chris and Margaret have created magic in the mountains unlike any other wedding venue. While Highlands is a...
popular wedding destination, nothing compares to a wedding at Flat Mountain Farm, which is what drew us to the location. Margaret's vision and eye for design are just the cherry on top of the already beautiful landscape that being in Highlands provides. When the band showed up and realized they needed more outlets to get the party started, Chris made it happen. When our wedding planner needed to do a site visit (or multiple), Margaret welcomed her. It has been so much fun to follow along on social media and see other weddings held at Flat Mountain Farm and how the space has continued to evolve. Each wedding is different from the one before. I love that Flat Mountain Farm provides the venue for a unique and individualized wedding, where there is no "formula" for what to do and you can truly make it your own. As I'm sure every bride says, I wish I could relive that day all over again!

property was beautiful and the perfect spot for wedding photos. The cabins were lovely for accommodating both families. Lindsay and Bailey loved staying in the Chikadee on their wedding night. Situated in the mountains near beautiful Highlands, NC, Flat Mountain Farm is a great location to stay a bit longer and enjoy an extended vacation filled with hiking, rafting, shopping and dining. We can't wait to return!

r ceremony was small & included all of our closest friends and family members. No matter what season you decide to get married, this property will be STUNNING. The owner, Margaret, has a beautiful story and background. She has thought of absolutely everything to deliver a magical experience. There is so much charm on every foot of the property. Each place to stay (Wren, Kingfisher, & Airstream) have the most thoughtful touches & great views. The design of each space is detailed, classy, & has tons of personality. Margaret allows her guests to "personalize" their wedding experience so that each wedding or event planned is one of a kind. Celebrate outside by the pond, inside the restored barn, or by a waterfall! The versatility of the property makes planning an event so much more memorable! We loved our experience & our friends have not stopped talking about it.
Don't even get us started on the sunset photo opportunities... your pictures will be absolutely breathtaking!
