Wedding photography with feeling . . . because feeling is what makes life worthwhile. The whole point of making images of our special moments of celebration is to give us the opportunity to relive and replay these experiences. It's so important then that the moments captured are authentic as they become the memories that we keep. Wedding photography then should be so much more than being stiffly posed for photos. It should be about capturing and preserving the genuine moments and most importantly the FEELINGS involved with them.
I've been a professional photographer for over 20 years and I have an incredible passion for shooting people in love. I have a narrative, editorial style and favor the heartfelt, honest moments of beauty and candid real moments. In my mind and heart there is no substitute for REAL and so I place a lot of emphasis on capturing authentic emotion. Of course, I am still there to coach and assist with all of the set up portraits and to help you look amazingly throughout your day, but I do love to let you be who you are and will not pose you in cheesy ways that feel inauthentic to you. Some couples have shared that my work doesn't look at all like 'normal wedding photos' and maybe that's a good thing!?! I love light and motion and energy and my aesthetic is a bit whimsical, definitely playful, grounded and earthy and I champion the belief that imperfect is far better than perfect. Hey - I'm Ty. I have been shooting photos professionally for over twenty years. I love all things design - art, architecture, lines, angles shadows and of course light. Personally, I am happiest when I am creating, whether that be making images, designing a living space, painting or working in my garden. My work and style are largely DOCUMENTARY in approach, often infused with MOTION and EMOTION, are a bit WHIMSICAL, definitely PLAYFUL, and build off of the idea that the IMPERFECT IS PERFECT. If the wind is blowing, your hair will flow with it and we will use that to make magical images that weren't planned, but will remind you forever of the specialness of your day. I am most inspired by imagery that is personal and unique to who you are, the life you lead and the style of celebration that you create. Building an amazing wedding gallery and telling your story is a bit like an artistic scavenger hunt and I truly love every moment of it. I enjoy finding moments that capture the 'aftermath of celebration,' such as an empty plate or confetti on the floor that say 'an amazing time was had here.' But I also don't see my role as pure documentarian. Rather, I think that art is often taking 'what is' and still imagining 'what it can be.' My favorite piece of feedback that I have ever received following a wedding was from a couple who noted that it had felt less like they had hired a 'wedding photographer' and more like they had invited an artistic friend to document their day. This to me is EVERYTHING!

I cannot express enough how amazed my husband and I are at Ty’s work, and how grateful we are that he shot our wedding. His travel rates are extremely reasonable, and we appreciated how upfront he was about pricing from the start. He is so warm and personable, every interaction we had was great and we really appreciated the effort he put into getting to know us and connecting with us personally prior to the wedding. Ty was receptive to all of our ideas, and he was also quick to share his knowledge on photography/the wedding industry and help us plan accordingly so all our top priorities were met. He was very flexible day of, and we had several family members and members of the wedding party tell us how kind he was to them. His photos captured the emotions of our wedding day so beautifully, in a way that instantly transports us back to the day every time we look at them. We cannot recommend Ty enough!

Wow wow wow. I can’t say enough positive things about our entire wedding photography experience with Ty at Flirt in Portland!
From the initial email communication, to our engagement photo session, to the wedding day itself and all the communications and deliverables in between and since, Ty has been dependable, kind, patient and put us completely at ease through the process.
I was nervous about finding someone that would be a fit for us stylistically and interpersonally, as it’s such a momentous and personal event. I was looking for someone who could capture the moments and mood of the day and highlight the beautiful people and personalities attending. Ty delivered, and exceeded, every expectation we had. He was such a delightful and unassuming presence and managed to capture so many gorgeous moments.
His style is editorial and he shines in artistic composition and catching candid, REAL moments. So many friends made the comment that these photos could be in a fashion magazine or a coffee table book. As we pour over our photos it’s clear that the day tells a story and it features not just my husband and me, but our community and all they brought to the day. There’s such joy and movement and life in the photos!
Lastly, Ty was unbelievably fast in getting us sneak peeks and full galleries of our engagement and wedding photos. There is so much excitement and eagerness to see the images of your big day and Ty went above and beyond to deliver an incredible package.
If you’re seeking a professional, compassionate, artistic photographer who will bring quiet confidence, attention to detail, and a thoughtful eye to your big day, I can’t recommend Ty and Flirt enough. 🤍

If I could put my experience with Ty in one word, it would be exceptional! Just know that limiting our experience to just one word would be a disservice to the work that Ty does. We initially reached out to Ty for our engagement shoot and he was immediately a creative partner in creating our dream vision. When our schedules got tight, Ty was patient with us in ensuring our vision would come to life in a way that aligned with our schedule. Once it was time for our photoshoot, Ty created a vision and images that far exceeded our expectations. He was extremely patient when we decided to include our chaotic, but cute, dogs. When the venue we initially planned to use threw us a curve ball, he was flexible and made amazing shots happen on the fly. I couldn’t recommend Ty enough. His work speaks for itself but the experience is what truly made our engagement shoot memorable. Thank you for everything!

Ty was absolutely amazing. Not only is he beyond talented, he's also extremely kind, generous, and put us at ease like never before in front of the camera. I have always felt uncomfortable and unhappy with how photos of myself have turned out and it feels like a dream come true that I'm so happy and beyond mystified how he was able to capture such real and gorgeous shots of our special day.

I would highly recommend Ty to anyone looking to capture their special day. There was something about the way he captures moments that made us instantly know we wanted him as our photographer. I would honestly consider myself quite awkward when taking photos, but Ty's guidance helped tremendously. I can't thank him enough and we loved our photos.

It was a joy to work with Ty for our wedding in Hood River at the Griffin House! He was incredibly warm, patient and supportive during the entire day. Leading up to the day, he was always reachable and incredibly responsive to any questions that we had. The photos came out perfect and he was able to capture so many special moments of our day. Ty was so wonderful and we couldn't be happier with our wedding photos. He made us feel comfortable during our engagement shoot and gave great direction without making us look too posed. He was a calm presence throughout the wedding day and worked well with all our vendors. And, most importantly, his photos are stunning. We looked at a ton of different photographer portfolios in the Portland area and Ty's really stood out from all the rest. We were really excited he was available for our wedding celebration. Communication with Ty before and during our event was really easy and we were super happy with the final photos. He truly captured the event in just the way we were hoping for (authentic, candid, artistic), and even delivered our gallery way earlier than we were expecting. My wife, who usually hates photos of herself, said "I love every one!" Highly recommend.

We found Ty the same way many discover their wedding photographer - Instagram! We were so sure Ty'd be a good fit, we reached out to him before we booked our venue just to make sure he was available. Over the year and a half of wedding planning, Ty was very intentional about getting to know us and it made our entire time with him very comfortable. He was a joy to spend our wedding day with and was a calming presence for both of us. The best part, he captured our love in a way we'd never seen. Ty goes above and beyond for his clients and you can tell it's not just a job for him. We can't wait for our next shoot with him.

I could not recommend Ty highly enough as a wedding photographer. I would say I am a less traditional bride who has an aversion to the 'same old' standard wedding photography. I wanted someone who would capture the moments of the day as they were happening instead of staging setups that would be boring to look at 10 years from now. I wanted a photographer not a "wedding photographer" if you know what I mean :). I was thrilled to find Ty. I love his artistic eye and natural approach to photography. On top of that he's such a nice person and a dream to work with.
Of course he did a great job with the obligatory family photos and the other must have wedding shots, but what I love most is the way he captured the real feeling of the day - of us and our family and friends. I love that I can feel the life in the photos, and they immediately bring me back to the moment (and thank god because I can barely remember what happened that day). I can't stop looking at our photos and I know I will love looking at them for the rest of our lives!

All of the emotions of my wedding day came back when I saw the photos - I get to relive my wedding day again and again and that is priceless. The photos themselves captured all the moments, even the little ones. Ty captured emotions of my family members and getting to see their reactions on wedding day was such a joy. I loved that I got to fully experience my wedding day without a lot of stepping away from the party to get staged photos and because of Ty's largely documentary style process we got the most gorgeous photos I've ever seen in my life. The photos are a mixture of organic, natural moments, mixed with artistic motion and film. Every single photo is one I want to frame in my house! Ty made us feel so comfortable and relaxed when we did our engagement photos and the wedding photos. It was perfect to have him there, his presence is calm and joyful, he is subtle and professional, and I never worried about how the photos would turn out because I trusted him completely. My family jokes that I am not photogenic (which is true), but Ty was able to get the best pictures of me in my whole life! By the end of the wedding night, my husband said to me "Ty felt like family too by the end!". This goes to show how Ty and Flirt are the absolute best photography company and I will always chose them for any event!

From our very first interaction with Ty, it was easy to sense his passion for photography. It was also apparent that he has an extremely genuine interest in getting to know each couple he works with. He took the time to meet with us on multiple occasions leading up to our wedding day, not only to make sure we were all on the same page - but also to get to know us better. The extra time spent is well reflected in the shots he was able to capture on our wedding day. The raw emotion he is able to capture in moments that seem so fleeting is absolutely beautiful. He has an eye for angles, shots, and details that are untraditional in the best way possible. Aside from the art of his photos, he is a relaxing, comfortable, and confident presence to have with you. We never once felt uncomfortable or that anything was forced. He even effortlessly won over our two small children and was able to get very special and adorable shots of them. Out of all of our decisions we made surrounding our wedding, Ty might’ve just been the very best one. I hope we can one day utilize him again.

So many photographers are exceptional at capturing life's big moments in big and beautiful ways, but very few photographers are capable of capturing the magic and specialness in the small moments in a meaningful way - Ty is a master of both. We had him with us for the three days of our wedding weekend and he managed to be both present and invisible as he captured each emotion, each small moment, each unposed glance, small gesture and little detail of the ceremony -- for us, and for our guests. Our wedding photographs aren't just pictures we'll frame on our walls, but images that have imprinted us far after the ceremony and celebration simmered down. His presence was the best wedding gift we could have given ourselves!!

I found Ty (Freckle and Flirt) via Instagram for some wedding photographer inspiration.
Ty is an amazing photographer and person in general. My now-husband and I are usually weird or uncomfortable having our photos taken together. It always just seems forced and never easy. We had explained this to Ty and he understood the assignment!
We booked Ty for an engagement session as well as for the day of and it was like he was not even around. When did he capture these beautiful moments? The pictures Ty takes aren't all just look at the camera and shoot. He has so many years of experience and you can see that through his perspective in the snapshots he takes. We are so pleased with the outcome of our engagement and wedding photos and his turnaround time of providing the digital views is great!

Ty did an amazing job at our super small intimate wedding way out in the woods in Colorado. He meshed in seamlessly with our group and was able to capture some super intimate moments that most photographers would pass by.
