We hosted our wedding reception at Formento’s last fall for 42 guests. Overall, the experience combined genuinely excellent elements with a planning process that was often frustrat...ing and required significant follow-up from us.
The biggest standout was the food. Even the more basic wedding packages included a tremendous amount of food, and everything was delicious. Our guests are still talking about it.
The day-of execution was also excellent. Our event captain (a Latino gentleman whose name unfortunately escapes me) was phenomenal. He checked on us regularly, helped troubleshoot slideshow/AV issues, kept drinks refreshed, paid attention to details, and delivered exceptional hospitality throughout the evening.
The space worked beautifully for our smaller wedding. We loved the atmosphere, never felt rushed, and appreciated how accommodating the staff was once the event was underway. Pricing was also one of the more competitive quotes we received during our venue search.
Where things became difficult was communication.
From the beginning, responses were inconsistent. On two separate occasions while scheduling tours, we arrived to find the event manager had not been informed we were coming. To their credit, the staff handled both situations professionally, but it created uncertainty early in the process.
After deciding to move forward, we experienced delays during contracting and eventually had to reach out through social media to get a response. Throughout planning, many questions required multiple follow-ups, and answers were often incomplete. Questions about AV, ceremony logistics, wedding party staging, entry/exit flow, and setup details frequently felt difficult to pin down.
One recurring frustration was that logistical questions were often met with suggestions to upgrade our package or rent additional spaces we had already declined. We weren't looking for upgrades—we were looking for guidance on how other couples successfully navigated similar logistics within the package we had booked.
About three months before the wedding, we finally had a very productive planning call that clarified many outstanding questions. Unfortunately, shortly afterward, our event manager left and we were reassigned without much transition communication. While the director and new manager were professional, we often found ourselves repeating information or receiving conflicting answers, which added stress close to the wedding.
Ultimately, Formento’s delivered on the wedding day itself. The food, atmosphere, staff, and guest experience were wonderful, and we genuinely had a beautiful wedding there.
However, couples should be prepared for a more hands-on planning experience than they may expect. We often felt that guidance was only provided when we knew to ask for it, and many logistical details had to be addressed piecemeal.
Our advice to the venue: prioritize proactive communication, provide clearer guidance for couples booking individual event spaces, and offer more solutions within existing packages rather than defaulting to upgrades.
Not every couple needs a white-glove planning experience, but stronger communication and clearer logistical guidance would make the process significantly less stressful.
