About this vendor
The original Fred Astaire Dance Studio, founded in 1947, and located conveniently at the 72nd st hub, our studio has been helping people realize their dancing goals for decades. We gain pride in helping each couple create and perfect the first dance of their dreams, while having fun learning how to dance and build a lifelong skill along the way!
We teach couples of all levels of experience, and no-one has too many ‘left feet’!! We provide an environment that encourages all to dance with us, creating a community that is supportive, educational and fun! Our practice parties give our couples a chance to experience social dancing in a crowd, and to perform a ‘dry run’ of their first dance to a supportive crowd of fellow dance students, leaving every couple 100% prepared on their wedding day.

We worked with Ana for our first dance at our wedding, and the experience was absolutely incredible! With zero dance experience or expectations going in, we couldn’t be happier wit...
h the outcome. Ana choreographed the entire dance to our song and guided us through it over six lessons. She is an amazing teacher, very patient and fun to work with. She even challenged us with more intermediate steps to make our dance even more amazing and unique. Overall it was the best experience. I highly recommend Ana at Fred Astaire UWS!
We had a great time working on our first dance at Fred Astaire UWS! The instructors are used to helping couples who are new to dancing, so they're patient and keep it fun and light...
hearted! This location has just one studio, so you will be practicing in the same space as other couples.
Out of all the chaos of wedding planning, working with Talia at Fred Astaire has been an absolute joy. Talia choreographed the perfect routine for our (beginners!) style that feels...
so classy and sophisticated and fun. We can't wait to show off at our wedding thanks to her wonderful talent and skill as a teacher, and thanks to the warm environment at Fred Astaire that helped even a nervous beginner like me come out of my shell and have so much fun and pride in our dance! 10/10 would recommend!!!!! P.s. I can't ever get my fiance to go to the ballet but he loves these lessons!
My husband and I have been taking lessons at Fred Astaire since July. Talia choreographed the perfect routine for our first dance! She is highly experienced and taught us broad tec...
hniques so that we can continue dancing with confidence post-wedding. We look forward to spending more time at the studio over the coming months.
My wife and I were looking to clean up our first dance and learn a few new moves for our wedding. We (and the guests at our wedding) could not have been more impressed with the dan...
ce routine we learned working with Talia. Talia made us feel comfortable, was patient through my clumsiness, and left us feeling confident with the choreography she helped coordinate specific for our song. Thank you for helping to make our special night so memorable!
Talia was an excellent instructor for my father/daughter wedding dance. My father and I had 0 experience dancing and one- double lesson to learn a quick routine as I don't live in ...
nyc and was in town for one day. Talia immediately put us at ease and taught us some easy moves that made us look and feel like we knew what we were doing! I highly recommend a visit here.
We love this place!
Not only did they take us from zero to competent in a couple of months, but our instructor spent time listening to our song and choreographed a custom routine ...
for us! Our first dance was a big hit at the wedding.
The teachers and quality of instruction at Fred Astaire UWS got us really excited about continuing with Dance-- we now have a new hobby together!
A big thank you to Talia and the rest of the instructors (all of whom are amazing to watch perform, btw!) for making us feel so at home from the start.
We'll see you all at the studio soon!
My wife and I got married back in May. She's a professional dancer, but I'm not, so we needed to get some lessons in so I could at the very least not mess up our first dance. We we...
re lucky enough to get Ivan as our teacher, and he was perfect for us. Very nice guy, and very good teacher. We started off with him teaching me a few basic steps, and then moved on to learning our actual wedding dance. We decided to to a choreographed dance, when I realized I'd probably just lead us in circles for four minutes, and that's no fun at all. Ivan was able to choreograph a great piece to the song of our choice. We had a great time working with him, and can't recommend him and the studio enough for wedding dance training.
Oh, and we also worked with Anna once when Ivan thought it would be best to have a second set of eyes on the dance, and she was just as good as he was.
Talia was our Instructor for our First Dance for our wedding! Highly recommend!
We are having a great time learning to dance for our wedding! Our instructor, Talia, is very professional and helpful. She choreographed a routine specifically for us and our song....
Even as a beginner dancer, she makes the steps easy to learn and is very encouraging.
My wife and I were fortunate to receive an engagement gift for dance lessons at FA Dance Studio on the UWS. From the moment we went in, the staff were very lovely, and we were pair...
ed with Anna. We think Anna is great, she matched our style and we hit it off instantly. (All the teachers seem great with their students but we're a bit biased). We ended up adding more lessons, to perfect our first dance for the wedding (and because it was fun). We don't consider ourselves professional dancers but with the help of Anna, we conquered the dance floor on our big day. I would do it all again!
We left doing our dance lessons to the very last minute (2 weeks from the wedding to be exact!) and I could not have been more pleased with our experience. We were paired with an i...
nstructor named Talia, and not only did we give her the burdening task of coming up with something for us with such limited time but my fiance was surprising me with our first dance song; so she had to choreograph us a dance all while keeping the song a secret. We were absolutely thrilled with our dance after our few dance lessons and had so much fun doing it. I could not recommend this dance studio more for your wedding dance choreography and even just a fun date night. We've already talked about going back after the wedding!
