Fred Astaire Dance Studio® of Upper Montclair has served Essex County for more than 50 years. With 16 years on Valley Road, we now has a reputation of excellence that is unsurpassed. We offer a variety of dance package & programs, each custom made to fit your individual needs.
We know you want to make your first steps together in harmony, that's why we focus on making you look comfortable and confident in your first dance. Wedding dances are as subjective as your cake,dress, flowers, etc. If you want a flashy dance, no problem! If you just want a little more than a clutch-and-sway, we can do that too.
Most wedding couples average 15 lessons for their first dance, Some take lessons for a year before their wedding. We recommend you start at least a month early.

dance and even a fun way for us to enter our reception! Our guests were blown away (neither of us has any prior dancing history) and kept saying we looked like we could be professionals! It was so fun to get to take a break every now and then during hectic wedding planning to have fun with Kaitlin and dance! She even arranged for us to go to one of their weekly "dance parties" and perform in front of everyone else there as good practice for our wedding day. I would highly recommend any couple looking to learn some dance moves, or choreograph the perfect first dance, or even just looking to have some fun date nights to come here - you will be greeted by smiling professionals and have so much fun while truly learning how to dance from people with incredible talent!

ancing was never something I thought I would have to try. I reluctantly went (happy wife-happy life kind of thing). In any event this became one of the best presents we got and one that my wife and I will never forget. Carrie (the owner) is one of a kind. She was super friendly, has a great staff of dancers and knows how to make you feel at home. Don't let the sign on the door fool you either. Carrie and her staff do a lot more then just Ballroom dancing. We told Carrie that for our first dance the only song we liked was not a slow tune and did not want to just pick something which had no meaning. Carrie instantly said "No Problem!! Give me the song and I will make it work". She took a fast, upbeat song (September by Earth Wind and Fire) that was special to my wife and me and choreographed a super fun, out of the box dance. Carrie worked with us each time we went for our lesson and after a few short weeks my wife and I learned an amazing wedding dance that friends and family are still talking about today (I've been married for 8 years).
