DO NOT RECOMMEND. The main reason I joined was for accountability and to work on some of the psychological aspects of emotional eating, cravings, etc. I shared this in my intake ca...
ll and was ensured that this was something that could be worked on. I was way more into the education part of this experience than the working out/eating, and I don't feel I left knowing more than I did before. Overall, my coach was great, and I saw meaningful results; however, I do think there is a gap between what is advertised and what is received.
The claim is that everything you receive is customizable (it's partly true, but it partly isn't). The team uses apps to build your meal plans (eatthismuch.com) alongside loading pre-made workouts into your trainerize app. Despite updating equipment with my coach, I would receive workouts with equipment I already noted I did not have at my gym (leading me to believe it wasn't custom for me). Not to mention, I had been out of the gym for a while; at one point, one of my sets was 150 lunges PER LEG. This was wild to me, considering I was getting back into somewhat okay shape.
I decided to leave the program when I asked for more resources around the psychological aspects of food. What was recommended was that I write in a journal to help bridge the gap between mood/life and food. And therapy. When I brought to my coach's attention that the thumbtack site made mention of working together to "get rid of old mindsets, eliminate feelings of guilt & shame, overcome emotional/stress eating" and that the site makes mention of coaches having degrees in "psychology, behavioral analysis" I was told that the "founder has a degree in psychology, but it is not specialized in eating disorders." LoL. I'm not sure I have an eating disorder??? Maybe or maybe not. But why put these credentials if they are not really something that can be used in the program? I was pretty consistent with my macro counting and working out; the psychological aspects are what I really needed help with to fine-tune. I get it, they are not therapists, but when I was having my intake call, they should have mentioned that they couldn't really help as advertised ...
Not to mention, they advertise $75 for the service ... that's not correct, maybe $75 a week ...???? You are put on a monthly plan though... I was so desperate for change when I first joined that I paid for the service. With the initial call, they make you decide then whether you want to move on with the program or not ... I was so desperate at that time and didn't want to miss the opportunity ... because I thought I could learn some things to help me with my relationship with food ... :/ ... When you cancel the contract, you still have to pay 1/2 of the monthly payment until your 6 months/1 year are up. It doesn't seem right ... kind of seems predatory ...
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Gencityfit. They are here to just take your money and pose as a NOOM based company when they are from it. I expect way more from a woman and LGBT+ owned business. Terrible.
