Get First Dance

Monika helped us create a first dance for our wedding that was elegant but also easy enough for us to remember due to our lack of dance skills! My husband and I didn't want to get up in front of all our friends and family and just sway back and forth so we came to Monika. She created a dance for us that didn't feel too choreographed but with simple turns and moves throughout the song that added a fun element. We practiced with Monika about 3/4 times before our big day and practiced at home as well. She really did an amazing job and we got so many compliments! It was definitely worth it and I am so glad because we felt confident going into our first dance and it showed! Highly recommend her for any occasion.

We took multiple classes from Monika for our first dance and she was amazing! She created a very romantic choreography for our song. She was very patient and always had alternative moves whenever we had difficulties or felt uncomfortable. I cannot recommend Monika enough. We took an intro class and then purchased 5 lessons, and we are so happy we did. Monika got us totally prepared to shine at our wedding with straightforward but exciting moves. She was easy to work with yet challenged us when we needed to be challenged. Also, each class was a ton of fun, and we looked forward to going every time. Definitely hire her if you're looking to learn a first dance!

Monika was great and highly recommend her for wedding dance lessons. She met me and my fiance where we were at in regards to our skill level and was flexible with scheduling and meeting after work. Our guests and family loved our dance and were incredibly surprised!

My husband and I took about 6 classes with Monika in order to prepare a special first dance for our wedding. Our song was not a typical slow dance and we were looking for some moves to wow the crowd! Monika was so incredibly patient and helpful. She crafted a dance that was both manageable yet entertaining. She took her time with us in learning all of the steps and made sure that we felt comfortable in what we were doing. It was such a nice experience for me and my husband to have together and the dance turned out great! I even took my dad to a class to learn a couple of moves for our first dance as well. It was a great experience and I would certainly work with Monika again!

My husband and I knew we wanted to have a choreographed dance for our wedding, and we knew we wanted it to be fun & upbeat. Our song was Keith Urban & Carrie Underwood's "Fighter," which is both. From the first lesson, Monika already had a vision for our dance, and we got right to work. She was very patient and easy to work with - taking into account and sharing other factors for us to consider as we worked on the dance (i.e. dress, shoes, too many spins, etc.). She also had different options for some of the parts, so was open to collaboration as well, which was fantastic. Obviously, it's extremely important to practice on your own, but within the time frame of our lessons, she helped us complete a stunning and exciting dance that was exactly what we had wanted. When we finally did the dance at our wedding, we felt confident and could hear the enthusiasm and awe of the guests as they watched us. We both caught the dancing bug and cant' wait to take a few other lessons just for fun!

Monika was such a great teacher, and also so much fun! We had the best time learning our first dance with her. She was incredibly patient with us and created a dance that suited our skills and personalities.

Monika and Justin are both very good teachers. You will learn a lot! Each have their own style, their flexibility gives you a good taste of what works for you, so you're encouraged to learn.

We reached out to Monika super last minute and she was so accommodating to our schedule (she came to our apartment at 8:30 on a Sunday evening). Then, she totally impressed us by helping us through our first dance (and we picked an unusual country song) and made us feel comfortable and excited about it. It's so lucky for us to find Monika! We were just 4 weeks before our wedding and have minimum experiences with dancing. And we want something different than just swing and slow move. I highly recommend Get First Dance. Monika, I must admit wasn't my first choice - me and my fiancee tried Yelp reviews and went to the instructor we found there. Disappointed with him, after wasting 3 lessons, we turned to Monika for help. As it was getting really close to the wedding (3 weeks!!), we wanted a very simple dance that we can learn in a short amount of time. Monika was extremely helpful, we didn't look like a mess on our big night. We actually surprised quite a few guests with our dance skills. 5 stars!

Monika, I only had the chance to take a handful of classes with you before I left NYC, but the lessons were better than I ever hoped for. These classes really are for people who are absolute beginners. Unlike other beginner classes which either are way more advanced than what a beginner can take OR you just learn how to do a move without any actual training in doing it right… Monika teaches you the basics of how to move. Thank you Monika! Wish you would move to Boston!

I had taken several beginner dance classes at studios, but always had a hard time keeping up and understanding the movement. Unfortunately, I never got much out of these classes, and always left discouraged. The first class I took with Monika was completely different. She is able to break down every movement and move at the individual pace and comfort level of each student. Her teaching method is extremely comprehensive, encouraging, and above all fun! I am thrilled with the progress I’ve seen in just a couple of months, mostly with the comfort I now feel in my own movement. When I leave her class, I am excited to return for the next one. Monika is incredibly skilled, as a teacher and dancer, and she instills in you the same love she feels for movement and dance.

Dear Monika, Thank you so much for helping to make our first dance such a hit. Our guests went crazy when they saw us break into a routine. We are so glad that we found you. We wanted to create a routine to Michael Jackson’s PYT and tried to teach ourselves since we have some basic moves on the dance floor, but we had trouble learning MJ moves. After taking 5 hours of classes with you, we felt like we had the moves down and felt much more comfortable performing in front of our family and friends. You were such a great teacher. You broke down the moves into small parts to make it easier for us to learn and you created a routine based on our skill levels. We had a lot of fun in our lessons and would recommend you to anyone looking for a private lesson. Thank you for everything!
