Gretchen at Gilford Gourmet truly made my cupcake dreams come true. I found her after learning that the bakery we had planned to use would be closing its doors before our wedding, and I’m honestly so happy that it worked out the way it did. My now-husband and I visited her home-based bakery after a springtime venue walkthrough, and she had several slices of cake and cups of buttercream ready for us to sample. It was love at first bite, and though we had planned to try out a couple other options, we booked her on the spot. We chose four different flavors of cake and buttercream: vanilla cake with vanilla bean, spice cake with chocolate, pumpkin with maple, and Guinness with peanut butter. No gross fondant in sight! Gretchen was more than willing to decorate our cupcakes with two crossed cocktail swords for our Princess Bride-themed wedding. She answered our questions and emails promptly, and she delivered the cupcakes before we arrived at the venue on our wedding day, ensuring that we had one less thing to worry about. We brought our own cupcake stand, but she supplied boxes so we could bring leftovers with us or send them home with guests. Her prices were reasonable and more than worth it. Since the wedding, at least five guests have asked me where we got the cupcakes, and everyone I’ve talked to says they absolutely loved the rich, sweet, decadent flavors.
