I really wanted this to be a 5-star review! We chose Gourmet Goodies because my husband has lived in Polk County his entire life, and they have a reputation for being the best. Our cake tasting and consultation went amazing, and we booked! We o...rdered a 2-tier cake and 24 cupcakes. Price was $318. Our inspiration cake was an ombre purple, dark to white. We were told the ombre color would be no problem, and they showed us photos of what they have done before. I also had my color swatches that day to show the purple. The ribbon-texture on the side would be different because the inspiration cake was a fondant icing and we could only afford buttercream. That was fine by us! I only had a few bites of cake during our wedding, but the taste was as expected - our guests loved the cupcakes as well. The flavor was not the issue for us, but the design. It didn't ruin my wedding day, but I feel a strong stab of disappointment every time I see a picture of my cake. You certainly won't see GG proudly posting my cake on their social media pages. What was supposed to be a dark purple (Azazie plum) ombre to white was a muddy purple, almost black, that covered over half the cake straight to white with no ombre. There are a few smudges of lighter color where the two colors mixed, but those looked more like accidents than an ombre. I wish I could pinpoint where our communication went wrong or what I could have done to prevent this, but we went over the look of the cake in detail, and the ombre effect was the least of anyone's concerns. They were more worried we wouldn't like the ribboning with buttercream vs the fondant, but that part looks fine to me. I was assured the ombre effect would be no problem. I offered them two color swatches, so they could see the progression of colors I wanted, but they only wanted to the darker color. (Lighter was Azazie Dusk) - they said they would start with the dark and lighten to white within that same color palette. It made sense. There was no mention of the purple being too dark or any concerns about the ombre at all. I did receive a phone call a few days before the wedding about an issue they were having with getting the color of the cupcake icing to match the cake. I was told they would send pics a few hours later and I could approve the coloring. I didn't receive anything so called the next day and was told they would be working on it the day before the wedding. I told them for the cupcakes that taste was more important than matching the cake, so if they couldn't do the colors, it was fine to use original cupcake icing colors. I never received any follow-up calls or photos to approve. But the cupcakes turned out fine. It was really just the look of the wedding cake that was a huge disappointment. The quality was not up to par with their regular work. For the money a wedding cake costs, we expected better.
