What they don't do is document condition at pickup: no photos, no written condition report, nothing either party signs. That matters, because when a crack appeared in one table at return, there was no record to establish whether it was pre-existing. The manager's position was that the damage must have been caused by someone standing, jumping, or kicking the table. He offered no evidence for that, and it was the basis for denying the damage protection we had paid for and charging us the full replacement cost. When I asked what the waiver does cover, the answer was chips and scratches — the same condition the table arrived in. We were prepared to pay. We asked for an explanation of what we were paying for and didn't get a productive one. The front-desk staff member who helped us (Kate) was excellent, and that isn't in question. The issue is a rental operation that sells damage protection while keeping no condition records that would let a customer contest a denial. Everything was settled and paid for. It was an unfortunate way to end our wedding weekend and start our marriage. But we just hope no one else has to go through this as well!
