scuss our plans. The moment Grant opened the door and greeted us, we knew we were going to hire this amazing team.
The studio was warm and inviting and Deb brought out fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. We clicked with Grant and Deb from the start and the meeting was more like visiting with friends than choosing our wedding photographers.
We agreed to have Grant and Deb take our engagement photos and our wedding photos. Grant and Deb work so well together. They made the engagement photo session a fun and relaxing event at the Mariner’s Museum Park. Our pictures came out beautifully and we received them soon after the photo session so we could upload our favorites to our wedding website and include them in our wedding invitation suite.
On our wedding day, Grant and Deb came to the bridal suite while I was getting my hair styled. They happened to arrive right at the time I was having a bridezilla moment because my hair was not cooperating with my stylist. Grant and Deb were so sweet. They saw that I was in distress and quietly took pictures of my dress and accessories while the stylist and makeup artist solved the mystery of my hair. I included this part of our wedding day in this review to provide an example of how Grant and Deb effortlessly worked through a tense situation.
The “first look”, ceremony and reception were a whirlwind of activity. We put our complete trust in Grant and Deb. With our photo request list and a schedule of events from the wedding planner, they were on top of the event from start to finish. It was a magical day and they captured every moment and every detail. The pictures are breathtaking.
We highly recommend Grant and Deb. You will not be disappointed. They are an amazing team!

If you are going to hire a photographer, because you want pictures, maybe they are even the most important aspect to you for your wedding, then you MUST meet with Grant & Deb. You will be spending the most time with this particular vendor, so you might as well have a fun and amazing one! From our first meeting with them in their adorable studio I knew I didn’t even want to entertain the thought of meeting anyone else. Their pictures are absolutely stunning, like drop dead gorgeous or handsome! ;) They were both readily available for whatever question that I had throughout the entire process, I would have thought we were their only bride and groom.
We had our engagement photos scheduled with them, of course with our luck the weather decided not to cooperate. They contacted us in the morning and gave us the option to move our date since they knew that we wanted awesome photos. Once the day finally came to have our engagement photos, they knocked it out of the park! They were kind and let us do what we wanted, but also gave us some direction when one of our heads were tilted a weird way or the light was better in a different location. We loved our engagement photos soo much! Fast forward, Bridal Portraits – Grant met me at the gardens and put up with the entourage of people that came with me to the shoot. Grants ability to take a simple garden and a Bride and make it look like a magazine cover simply blows me away! While having lots of fun during the session we lost track of time. Now the wedding, that was the true test of all. They were so organized at our final meeting and made things better knowing I didn’t have to worry about if they would get this or that captured or show up on time. Grant and Deb showed up on time, began working diligently and then when it came for time for our first look pictures they had scoped out a spot since it had began raining. They handled our family and friends well as they were very eager to come disrupt this moment. A hurricane/tropical storm hit the city during our ceremony and it began raining very heavily, preventing us from taking any more photos outside. Grant and Deb quickly helped us adjust to taking our photos in the only spot available in the venue, the Auditorium. Despite the crazy weather conditions (the parking lot flooding of the venue, the venue leaking water, people drenched, power surges and the emergency warning that came across the cell phones) Grant and Deb helped make the perfect day. They handled the everything so gracefully. Not to mention they work so hard to give you a full gallery in such a short turn around! Seriously, I am so thankful that I found Grant & Deb and I hope you’re able to have just as amazing time if not better!

Having just gone through the wedding planning/budget process here is my advice. SPEND MONEY ON A GREAT PHOTOGRAPHER. You want great photos, you don't know how important your photos are until they are your own. We just got our wedding photos back and my husband and I were completely blown away. They are absolutely beautiful. I still look at them everyday.
Grant and Deb are such amazing people professionally and from behind the camera. Our amazing wedding planner Kelly Cornel (Inspired Events by Kelly), Deb and Grant were definitely the people who made our wedding the best day of our lives. They were worth every penny and I am so fortunate to have made lasting friendships with them.

They did our Engagement photos, my Bridals, photographed our Rehearsal dinner and our Wedding. It was so easy to access our pictures. Everything is online and organized by event. eting: They have a lovely little studio in Newport News with TONS to look at so you can get a good sense of their skills. They are so unbelievably warm and enthusiastic you feel like you're the only couple they have ever worked with and you never feel like you aren't the priority. EVERYONE who met them loved them. Also we got bagels with blueberry spread - legit.
Bridal Shoot: DAAAAAYYYM, they knocked this thing out of the park. I honestly do not regret doing this with them. It actually made me wish I had done my engagement shots with them as well. So focused - and they work together in such a loving way. It's so fun to be part of their shoot - you will feel so important which is really moving.
Wedding: It rained - but they really came through for us. As I was working on my album I honestly could not figure out how to get it below 70 pages so I can order a nice lay-flat album hah! They took so many lovely shots. I'm a designer by trade and also do letterpress in the wedding industry - these two are above and beyond. I work with photographers all the time and these two have all the right stuff. I had my photos in about a week which is LIGHTNING fast.
Conclusion: If you are going to invest your money there are two places to do it - your venue and your photographers. The photos are how you will remember the day - do not balk at paying what talented professionals deserve. I say this not as a person who works in the industry myself (which I do), but as someone who really feels the money I spent on photos was worthwhile, meaningful, and of excellent quality. I will treasure my experience and the results for many many years to come.
PS. Their website and the payment/logistic experience with them is straight up amazing. Their site is set up so well with easy access to your photos, clear payment and receipts etc. I need to see who they had code their site - because their setup is so ultra professional and easy to work with.

bushes and captured the whole surprise. After the proposal Grant took the most breathtaking photos of us at the plantation. Grant's personality was so kind and sincere; we instantly made a connection with him. Once engaged, I seriously considered just eloping. I really didn't want a wedding or anything overly planned, fearing it would detract from the significance of the day. Well, our families had other ideas. My condition was "keep it small." I told my husband that, if we were going to have a ceremony that I really wanted it captured. There was no doubt that we were going with Grant and Deb, again. I think they were as excited about our pending nuptials as we were. They were amazing to work with for the ceremony. I cannot possibly express with words the level of creativity behind their photography. I know that no one has wedding photos like mine. Deb and Grant are artists and they both have an eye for capturing all the right moments. The way they flow as a team is amazing. We wanted shots that were very much "in the moment" - shots that, without words, told the story of our day. We got much more than that. t Grant and Deb at their studio/home and immediately knew that they were going to be the ones to capture the moments of our wedding day. They are bubbly, warm, outgoing, and professional right from the get-go.
We booked an engagement session because we had never had professional photographs taken and wanted know what it would be like to be in front of the camera. Grant and Deb drove to Richmond to meet us, and we had a great experience. They took their time with us, made us feel comfortable, laugh, and most importantly let us be ourselves.
On the wedding day, they both seamlessly caught the moments leading up to the first look and really made that an extremely special moment for us. The rest is a blur, but what we can remember is the same as what has already been said - fun, creative, stylish, great to work with, and really tried to capture what we couldn't take in.
As far as the pictures go, the Engagement Session photos were exactly what we wanted. There are so many pictures that we feel show "us." We can't wait to see what the wedding pictures turn out to be.
I would highly recommend these two photographers to anyone. Who knows, we might try to get them to do baby pictures down the line.

ring. After talking casually for a bit I fell in love with the husband/wife team and I knew I wanted my then fiance to meet them as well. It was the easiest decision we made during the whole wedding planning process. I'm still being told my engagement photos look like they are straight out of a magazine... or should be in one! They have amazing energy to be around and the enthusiasm in what they do to bring your dreams to life in their photographs. I just had the wedding of my dreams on October 24th and cant WAIT to see the results... they will be nothing less than breathtaking. I cant wait until my husband and I have our first baby because we will be using them again and again and again.

shoot fun so by the day of the wedding they were really relaxed in front of the camera, and it showed. They mostly weren't even aware of Grant and Deb on their big day.
My daughter is very expressive and my favorite thing about the photos is that Grant and Deb captured every facial expression of the day and all the sweet romance between the bride and groom. Perusing the photos, most of which were not staged, I felt like I was at the wedding and reception all over again. I was so busy that day that being able to relive their joy through the many photos was a gift, especially since my daughter and her husband moved overseas soon after.
One of the comments I heard from guests was that they hardly noticed the photographers and yet they were always in the perfect spot and angle to catch moments as they happened.
I recently attended a coworker's wedding that Grant and Deb shot and could hardly wait to see the photos afterwards. I have to say the wedding was absolutely beautiful, but Grant and Deb also have that wonderful skill of capturing artistic shots that make the setting even more beautiful in the frame than you realized it was in person.
Grant is fun and energetic, and I have to say Deb is just the sweetest person. She stayed calm and passed that on to my daughter when we were running very late due to the hairdresser. She and Grant come prepared, but they work to make adjustments, as needed. They are completely "present" for your day. Deb also was very invested in helping us tell their story in the album and get it just like my daughter wanted. She struck the perfect balance between giving helpful tips and letting my daughter make her own choices, even though that meant leaving out some awesome shots.
One last thing, when we showed our photos and the photos of the recent wedding to folks in our office, everyone, to a person, said these were the best wedding photographers they had ever seen. Naturally, we have them booked for our next family wedding this December!

I told her that we weren't hiring a videographer, so I wanted a really good photographer who could take pictures that would "tell the story" of our wedding day. And I am so glad she introduced us to Grant and Deb Photography. From our initial meeting, to our engagement session, to our wedding day, we felt comfortable with this Husband-and-Wife team and they are true professionals. You can't beat having two photographers who compliment each other's strengths on your wedding day. As I was getting ready with the girls, Deb was taking pictures and as John was getting ready with his guys, Grant was taking pictures of them. We have multiple angles of major events of our wedding. Deb shot close-up pictures of our faces at the ceremony and Grant shot us far away so the entire venue is visible. Deb shot my bridesmaid's faces as they walked in and saw me for the first time and Grant shot my reaction. Deb has a very calming and comfortable presence--a perfect pairing for any bride who is nervous about how the day she has been planning for a year is going to unfold. Grant is energetic and entertaining, which is perfect for making the bridal party and family laugh as he is taking pictures so the smiles are genuine. One thing is for sure, Deb and Grant are passionate their jobs and their excitement about getting the perfect shot is contagious. Throughout the day, Grant would say, "Do you want great, or awesome?" We would shout..."awesome!" and he would tell us, "Ok then, everyone has to shift right" or "stand up straighter" or "Sara step out of John’s shadow." We are in love with our photographs and can't imagine anyone else capturing our love story.

In addition to great personality traits, they are PROFESSIONALS. They are constantly looking for both candid and artistic shots. They pay attention to the little details (light, shadow, angles, framing, clothes, and etc.) that could easily be overlooked. It was a great experience working with people who absolutely love what they do. In addition to the personalities and professionalism we found tremendous value in having access to two photographers. Grant and Deb were both present during our engagement photos and during the wedding day. Having two photographers results in double the pictures, multiple angles, and two sets of eyes and ideas for your shots. They work extremely well together and are constantly bouncing ideas off one another. The engagement session is a fun experience that allows you to get comfortable with them and allows them to learn how to photograph you. Two PROFESSIONAL photographers are a must during your wedding day. Grant was with the guys and Deb was with the girls. One photographer simply can't capture the day like they do. Grant and Deb are very creative and will give you the quality pictures you are looking for. Every picture they took of us is breathtaking! They made everyone involved feel special! Not only did they do a fabulous job with our engagement photos and wedding photos but they went out of their way to help me in a crisis. I (the bride) got into an accident on my way to meet with them for the first time. My car was totaled. Crying hysterically (not injured), I called them to tell them I will not be making it to the meeting because I have been in a bad collision. Without questioning me (a stranger at the time), Grant and Deb came rushing to the scene to help out and calm me down. They helped me work with the police and my insurance. Then, Grant drove my totaled car to the shop as Deb and I followed him in her car. They then drove me to get a rental car. After four hours, they still offered to meet with me! We went to their amazing studio and held our first meeting. They have a huge heart and will go out of their way to help someone in need! Grant and Deb made me feel like family. The engagement session was so much fun that I could have frozen to death without even realizing it. All kidding aside, the day of our weeding, Grant and Deb knew just what to do. It’s almost like they had a sixth sense, and the ability to intuitively know how to capture the perfect moment, even when our focus was in a million different places.
Maggie and I even trusted Grant & Deb to challenge our formalities, and decided to have a first look before the ceremony took place. We were hesitant about taking this nontraditional route at first, but we knew that this raw, intimate moment with one another, could only be done with Grant & Deb behind the lens. Im glad we decided to do first looks, because out of all of the photos taken that day, and the collection of astonishing shots given to us after the wedding, those are by far my favorite.

identally, the perfect way for me to describe Grant & Deb as photographers and people in general. They are quite possibly some of the most fun, kind-hearted, genuine people I've ever met in my life AND they are INCREDIBLY talented photographers. My now-husband and I live in Miami, FL and we did a destination wedding at a beautiful vineyard in Charlottesville, VA. (Edit--I just noticed that someone else used the same title as me! I'm not changing it :-P)
From the first time we spoke to Grant and Deb on the phone to screen them as potential photographers, they made us feel comfortable and informed about what was to come from their services and our big day. And they absolutely did not disappoint! In fact, our photos (we did engagement and wedding photos with them) turned out better than I could have even imagined. Our family and friends have all RAVED about our photos, and 6 months after the fact, we still catch ourselves being mesmerized by them up on our wall and as the screensaver on our tv.
Besides being very professional and knowledgeable in their craft, they are also incredibly creative with scenery and props (wait for it, I'll explain) and, I swear, have some sort of super power when it comes to making their subjects feel completely at ease so they can be their best selves during photoshoots.
So about the props...we did our engagement shoot at the wedding venue and on the way there, there was a lumberyard with hundreds of wooden logs stacked on top of each other. When we met Grant and Deb at the venue, one of the first things they said was "Did you see the lumberyard on the way?! Are you feeling adventurous?!" My response, being a girl who grew up climbing trees, was "Absolutely!" The pictures, are STUNNING, and my husband and I had so much fun venturing through the yard with a walkie talkie (to communicate with Grant and Deb while they shot us from afar, of course!), laughing, and embracing each other while they shot the whole thing.
On that note, they also just have a knack for capturing candid "moments" in a way that communicates every emotion that each individual is feeling at that point. The photo they took of my dad seeing me for the first time in my wedding dress brought tears to my eyes. It was so beautiful and real. You could almost hear his thoughts and emotions through the photo.
If you're looking for photographs that look staged and disingenuous, move along and keep looking. But if you are looking for gorgeous bridal, engagement, and/or wedding photos that capture the 'moments' and true nature of those being photographed, look no further! As people and as photographers, they are the best of the best, la creme de la creme, the cat's pajamas!

ere the perfect fit and booked them almost immediately. Personable, organized, fun and talented -- they were the complete package. They took our engagement pictures underneath the cherry blossoms in DC, which turned out to be so beautiful we used them on our invites. They helped my awkward now-husband feel more comfortable in front of the camera, which resulted in natural, gorgeous photos. The day of our wedding, they were so incredibly organized and were even able to keep our hectic, crazy, all-over-the-place families in line. It rained HARD on our wedding day and instead of letting me get stressed out about it, they just kept showing me how beautiful the clouds were going to look and took complete control over making sure we got all the pictures I had wanted despite the weather. We received the pictures back much sooner than expected and cried as we relived the moments that they were able to capture on film. I met them at the Vow Bridal Show I knew we found a special duo. We met with them prior to the wedding to get to know each other better. It was so nice to hang out and talk with them outside of the wedding setting that can sometimes be stressful. They got to know the 2 of us as a couple and as individuals. Sitting with them that night I felt as if we had known them for much longer than we had.
Having already met, seeing them the day of the wedding was actually like seeing a friend- relaxing and comfortable! Even when I had a nice little melt down they acted like it was no big deal!! ;) Seriously, they were able to make a few comments and had me smiling and forgetting my problem in seconds.
I can't stress enough how awesome it was to have the relationship prior to the wedding day. They made everything so comfortable - it was like having family friends taking pictures. Things like laughing, smiling, acting natural came easy being with Grant and Deb.

They shot our daughter's engagement pictures with her fiance in historic Williamsburg, VA and they captured the spirit of Lauren and Ben from the first shot. Fast-forward to the wedding day in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and they arrived at each of the houses where the bride and groom were staying to snap those small details like hair and make-up, laughter from friends and family, dressing, jewelry, hugs, etc. They are calm and cool and just make a big event like a daughter's wedding, easy to manuever as they capture your heart on film (you barely know they're even there).
One of the special captures for our beautiful daughter and new son was the sunset on the Sound side after the beach ceremony. The family pictures and newlywed pictures were captured by the ocean and then Grant and Deb quickly shuttled the happy couple over to the golf course associated with our venue for some absolutely gorgeous sunset and silhouette shots. These will be treasured forever as great memories of the beautiful day we enjoyed by the ocean and even moreso as we celebrated the new marriage once the sun went down.

Our engagement shoot, was done at Fort Monroe and we had such a blast. We incorporated my 5 year old son into our engagement shoot, which went great! We rolled down a hill, did family shots, and tons of couple shots. The pictures turned out amazingly beautiful!

Grant and Deb invited us over to their house for a consultation. On the way to their house Lisa and I made a pack that no matter how much we liked them we would sleep on it before deciding. About half-way through our meeting with Grant and Deb we looked over at each other and said "ok, we have decided we want you guys"...This was even before we heard the pricing....:)
Grant and Deb are an amazing couple first and foremost which for us was a huge selling point. Their energy is contagious and SINCERE. They are honest and very passionate about the ART of photography. Not, just taking pictures. That was very obvious from the beginning.
We got the Novella Package which came with a Photo Album, Engagement Photos, and 8 hours of wedding photography. We decided we wanted to shoot our photos in NYC and Grant and Deb were gracious enough to come up with a package that included the 2 days in NYC that was very affordable. It was here that we learned how great Grant and Deb truly are in their element. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Grant is the comedian and Deb is the assurer and the photo's they shot from Central Park to the Brooklyn Bridge were awe inspiring.
Moving on to the wedding...
We had Destination Wedding at the Sanderling in Duck, NC so Grant and Deb had to Travel for our big day. They showed up early and began where they left off in NYC only this time Grant was with the Groomsman and Deb was with the Bridesmaids. They coordinated our first look to make that as special as our ceremony. After the ceremony They split again. Grant taking the pictures of the bridal party while Deb went with the guests to the cocktail hour. Then handled the rowdy but respectful wedding party to perfection...:)
Our wedding was only a few days ago but from the pictures we have already seen we are already floored and speechless by our wedding photos.
I normally do not write reviews but I felt I HAD to for Grant and Deb. They were born on this earth to do what they do and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They made our engagement and wedding memories come to life and without them our wedding would not have been the same.
