About this vendor
This vine has over three hundred different varieties including blackberries. The type we pull is traditionally the roundleaf greenbrier. In some areas it is known as Jackson Vine. This vine grows as far north as Nova Scotia and heads towards the southeastern part of the US. It goes east to southeast Texas and over to northern Florida and up to Nove Scotia. This also includes blackberry vines.
Our business is located in Southeast Louisiana. In Southeast Louisiana you will find much of our culture comes from Acadian French and Indians. The parish that our business is located in is called the Florida Parishes because at one time this area was part of Florida. Louisiana has a very rich history of many things one of which is the naming of the Smilax vine. The Acadian French gave the name “cantaque” to all members of the Smilax family. This is a Choctaw word for greenbrier.
