What a beautiful, intimate and glorious spot for a small family and love filled wedding. The venue is magnificent, the price is fair, the convenience and most importantly the help and care provided by the staff won’t be found anywhere else like what we received from Maureen and Patty! The preparations up to the day were painless and systematic. The day was calm and handled with utmost care and attention. Making a sometimes stressful day a piece of cake. It was pure perfection and we felt as if we had a wedding planner but we really just had the utmost support. Our level of comfort was prevelant! The Alexander Blue House has old world charm and coziness. The Newburgh Church as the most adorable and perfect close cozy and simplistic place for the ceremony. Everyone in attendance felt the love. The smaller venue made it as intimate as any wedding could ever be.
My husband and I just recently got married at Greenmead Historical Village on November 12th, 2021. We had our ceremony in the Newburgh Church and our reception at the Alexander Blue House. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this location as a wedding venue, and the amazing planning help with the Greenmead staff. Prior to our wedding, we worked closely with Maureen to plan the rehearsal dinner and the day of. She answered all of our questions and was incredibly helpful! As our wedding was on a Friday, and there were no events at the venue before ours, we were able to get into the venue earlier in the week to start the set up. It was a HUGE help since my husband and I did our wedding very DIY and planned everything ourselves, with the help of my amazing mother. The day of the wedding, we had a woman named Patty as our day of coordinator. Patty was an absolute dream! She was incredibly helpful and supportive. She helped soothe and relax me prior to walking down the aisle and she was so efficient, working with our other vendors day of to ensure everything ran smoothly and on time! I had the absolute best day and am so thankful for the team and help we had from Greenmead! I would definitely recommend this place as a venue, as outside of the wonderful staff, it is also such a beautiful space! The church and the Blue House are both so beautiful and wonderful venues for a smaller wedding of 100 or less!
Although we ended up cancelling our original wedding plans and eloping, I wanted to leave a review for future couples regarding my experience with Greenmead. I contacted Maureen, the event coordinator, in early 2020, when the pandemic was really taking off, to book. She was incredibly helpful and I felt comfortable from the start, quickly deciding this was our go-to venue.
As the year wore on, and things seemed to change on the daily, Maureen did an incredible job not only keeping up but re-inventing how weddings were done when needed. She was juggling not only newly booked couples, but those that came to her when their venues either folded or were not allowed to host their weddings.
Maureen followed all CDC protocols. When we were allowed to come into the space, everything was set up to standards.
Greenmead itself is a beautiful, historic, venue, and very reasonably priced. Maureen has been assisting couples for some time and it shows. She thought of every detail and was available for any and all questions.
When we made the decision to elope, Maureen was gracious, understanding, and got us our refund quickly. I strongly recommend this venue to future couples.
We just had our wedding at Greenmead on the 10th and the weather was amazing! The staff on the day of were present to help my husband and groomsmen with anything that they needed (pinning flowers on the guys jackets) but stayed out of the way at our ceremony, our guests didn't even know they were there! Maureen was always available no matter the question or how many times I wanted to go in and have one more look around. With all the updates to covid guidelines she was ready and willing to help us out. We had a wonderful experience.
My Husband and I were married at this beautiful historic chapel on 1/18/20 and it was an absolutely beautiful ceremony. Maureen, was great to work with and helped us plan/ coordinate, we also were able to rent the “Blue House” on the grounds for our wedding shower as well. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful with tons of character and historic charm. It offers tons of options for capturing beautiful photos and memories. We’re ecstatic that we’re able to make this beautiful little piece of local history part of our wedding.
When my son and daughter in law were married here two years ago, my wife and I immediately knew this was exactly what we wanted for our own wedding this past December. The church is perfect for a small to medium wedding, and the Blue House is intimate, historical and not more than 100 yards or so from the church. (It is great for your guests, as they can retire to the Blue House for drinks and hors d'oeuvres after the ceremony while the wedding party stays to take pictures)
Maureen and her staff are awesome, and they run a very organized and professional process from first visit through follow up after the wedding! I truly can't say enough about how attentive, helpful and knowledgeable they were through the entire process.
For those that might be looking at a wedding during the Hanukkah/Christmas/Thanksgiving holidays, you will LOVE how they decorate the church and the Blue House! If you like Americana, you will love this place. Ask Maureen to show you pictures.
We are extremely happy with our decision to be married and have our reception at Greenmead. If you haven't stopped by to speak to Maureen and visit the venue, do yourself a favor and give them a call to schedule a visit.
Greenmead Historical Park offers a spectacular venue for intimate receptions. Working with Maureen was a pleasure, as she shared her knowledge and expertise and helped us to craft the perfect wedding experience. The church, grounds, and Blue House were perfect for my daughter's wedding, and everything went flawlessly with people on staff to insure that there were no issues. If you love history, and a unique wedding experience, I would HIGHLY recommend Greenmead for your wedding and reception.
My wife and I had our beautiful wedding ceremony at Greenmead. Maureen was very helpful and communicative every step of the way. She is knowledgeable and helped take away the stress because she's organized and has great suggestions. Every staff member was very nice and helpful. I never felt stressed by the process once with this staff. Everyone was very LGBTQ friendly and always made my wife and I feel welcome. The church and grounds have such a rich history. It's a beautiful space to get married in. If I had to do it over, I'd still choose Greenmead as my wedding location. I also used one of their spaces for the rehearsal dinner, which was ideal and made the rehearsal easier and more streamlined.
Greenmead has held a special place in my heart since I was a child, and I'm glad I had my wedding there. If you're planning any type of event, family get-together, shower, wedding, etc. I would recommend Greenmead. They have beautiful grounds, many different rental options, and friendly, knowledgeable staff. The process was easy and Maureen was very accommodating. A beautiful, charming location for a beautiful day!
Beautiful venue and our hosts for the rehearsal and wedding were great. The woman who does the bookings and runs things is not helpful though. She’s blunt and rude and hard to work with.
The church and the grounds were absolutely beautiful, perfect for our small wedding! The staff was efficient and very helpful for everything from the reservation to the rehearsal and all the way through the ceremony.
Our only complaint was that they only took money orders or checks but wouldn’t accept my check with an older address on it, nor would they take a check written by anyone but me so I had to get a money order but it was only a small hassle in the grand scheme of things.
Thank you to Maureen Casey, Recreation Supervisor, @ Greenmead Historical Park, Livonia, MI for recommending the Friends Meeting House for a bridal shower hosting a small group of 30 people. It is a rustic but charming property on the grounds with amenities of small kitcihen, heat and/or a/c, and an intimate setting. Handicap accessible ramp available. Alcohol was allowed (via signed police permit) We brought our own food but Maureen can provided suggestions for a caterer. All linens, dishes, and decor is provided by Renter. There is a coat rack, coffee pot, dessert and beverage stations provided. Maureen is professional, accessible, informative and a pleasure to work with. She is committed to the integrity of the Park ensuring use for the public for years to come. The day of our event Barney was prompt opening the doors and in contact with us as the closing time approached. It was a wonderful local place to host a bridal shower. Would recommend this venue.
Greenmead was the ideal place for our wedding. Maureen helped from beginning to end making sure it was everything we wanted. Alexander blue house fit our 90 guests perfectly.
WONDERFUL!! We had our ceremony inside Newburg Church and reception at Alendander Blue House August 18, 2017. We used the house for the bar and appetizers and had a tent on the lawn outside for food and tables/dancing. Maureen was our contact from the start., She was helpful and patient. She gave us tips, and suggestions when we did not know what to do. She always answered her cell or called back really fast.
The day of the event, the ladies at the church made sure every second of the ceremony went perfectly. During the reception, there were two Female attendants there to ensure that our every need was met.
As the mother of the bride and a single parent, I had a lot on my shoulders, but the ladies of Greenmead made my daughter's special day so smooth, that I was able to enjoy it all with her! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND checking Greenmead out!
I was recently married at Greenmead (Newburgh Church and then reception at Alexander Blue House). Maureen is a very knowledgeable and her number one concern is the integrity of Greenmead. She is willing to do as much as she can with what she is able. The price point is perfect for a rustic feel, and my one piece of advice is make sure you ask as many questions that you can, so that you are not surprised by anything day of your event. Maureen does not work the actual events (on weekends), so make sure you have everything set up and ready to go... I would suggest meeting with the people who are working your event... if you want to iron out any details. Nothing happened that ruined the day, but a few hiccups tainted it a bit for people who were involved in the planning process. Also, I would suggest having all vendors in contact with Maureen, to make sure they are within protocol for the grounds. I had a personal issue with the women working the reception portion, but Maureen was helpful in making sure that it would not happen again. I would for sure have another event here, just be better prepared to ensure that there are no bumps... because when you go through so much, you want it to go perfectly. I am very happy overall, and would recommend this beautiful place for anyone to have a special event... 7-15-17
About a year ago I attended a Happily Ever After event at Greenmead looking for inspiration for my upcoming wedding. The moment I walked into the chapel and the Alexander Blue house, I fell in love. The event was so well done and left such a great impression on me that I immediately told my fiancé about the park. Soon after, we booked not only our wedding shower at the Blue House but our wedding ceremony at the chapel as well. This was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding plans! We received (and are still receiving) so many compliments on our wedding shower and ceremony. Our guests were in love with the uniqueness of the venue, the historical charm, and the coziness that you don’t find in “traditional” settings.
From the time we decided to book our event at Greenmead to the day of both of our events, the staff were excellent to work with. Maureen is very knowledgeable about the buildings in the park. In my opinion, this adds to the historical charm and creates a connection to the building’s history. It made my experience feel even more special and as though we were adding our own piece of history to the building. Maureen was wonderful about helping us through the process and answering the many questions I had for her. Patty and Barney worked with me on the day of my wedding. I was so nervous but they were both wonderful, helping me calm my nerves and making sure I got into the chapel without incident!
Greenmead will always hold a special place in the heart of myself and my husband. I truly feel that the park is a gem within the city of Livonia, one that the residents are fortunate to have. I can say with certainty that Greenmead will be at the top of my list for any of my future events and at the top of my list of recommendations for others! You will not regret this choice. The venue and staff are amazing!
We had the most wonderful wedding in the church with our reception in the Alexander Blue House. Can't say enough about the staff and the setting. We received more compliments than I can mention. It was a perfect day!!
My daughter had her wedding outside on the porch of the Alexander Blue house and her reception inside. We are thrilled with how everything turned out and our guests were impressed with the personal touches that just don't exist at most other venues! Maureen and the other staff members were beyond helpful! I highly recommend Greenmead in general and the Alexander Blue house specifically for an elegant wedding venue!
Absolutely beautiful! Perfect location for our wedding ceremony! The atmosphere was enchanting and our guests could really feel that love was in the air! Our ceremony was at max capacity and the natural acoustics of the church were fabulous, our guests heard every word without the use of speakers or microphones. They provided us great wedding planners during the process and wonderful helpers the day of the event at no additional cost. Our names also went into the official historical archives with other couples that have been married there, dating back 200 years, very special! A++
We had our reception at the Alexander Blue House at Greenmead Historical Park this summer. It was so lovely! Maureen was so wonderful to work with, and the reception was everything we could have asked for. Lovely place if you're looking for a venue with character and is unique.
This is where my husband proposed, so it was the prefect place to get married. It is a small historical church and was a great setting. It is small, so no big weddings here, but i liked the intimate setting. They ladies were so kind and genuinely caring. And the property itself is great for pictures after the ceremony.
Greenmead is the perfect place to get married, especially if you're after a historic/vintage feel. The park is stunning no matter what time of year, and the church is great for a more intimate/romantic wedding. I held both my ceremony (in Newburg Methodist Church) and reception (in the Alexander Blue House) at Greenmead and the night was perfect. Guests loved how romantic and "quaint" my wedding was and everyone had a great time!!
Greenmead's staff is amazing. All of the ladies are wonderful and made everything run smooth with no bumps at all! There are quite a few rules because it's a historical site, but Maureen does whatever she can to make your day everything you want it to be. She had great ideas and made my planning experience so easy and painless!
I would highly recommend getting married here!!!
I loved Greenmead!! Every thing looked beautiful and the women that helped coordinate the ceremony were great to work with!!
Our wedding was 8/27/11. My fiance was a Livonia resident and we chose this venue early in our planning. We knew we would have less than 100 guests, which is the maximum for the chapel and banquet venue. I believe the cost for rental of both, as a resident, was about $1000. They also charge 10% of the food bill, which we paid the day before at the rehearsal. I think for us it was something like $350. There is a refundable deposit which was returned to us within a month after the wedding.
This is a very rare and unique facility. We loved the fact that our guests could arrive once for both the ceremony and reception.
You have to locate your own caterer and provide your own alcohol which we actually wanted to do to save money. I already reviewed the caterer (Holiday Markets) and they are very familiar with this venue from several prior parties. It was very easy to get the Greenmead planner, caterer and wedding coordinator together at a planning session to discuss the details about 2-3 weeks beforehand.
We had a "first look" in the garden area, took all our posed pictures there. The grounds are STUNNING with historic buildings everywhere. It is even pretty in the fall, when we had our engagement pictures taken there.
The chapel is non-denominational, and very charming and perfect for a wedding. Afterward our guests walked to the Alexander Blue House for the reception. It was set up exactly as we discussed and our guests loved the vintage romantic feel to the entire event.
The only negatives are not an issue if you are a great planner, or hire a "Day of wedding coordinator": you are only allowed access to the buildings 2 hrs before the event. We were, however, able to drop off the centerpieces and other items the day before when we were there for the rehearsal. They have a HUGE refrigerator in the kitchen where our flowers were stored overnight. They also have an oven for keeping things warm, and a freezer available for the caterer. I did have a "day of wedding coordinator" who was able to get everything done in 2 hrs. It could easily be done by "friends of friends" if you don't want to hire one.
I was very happy with the staff. The ladies that assisted at the rehearsal and for our wedding were sweet, helpful and make you feel like family.
For us it was an overall 5 star experience. I highly recommend them.
I had an excellent experince here. We had planned an outdoor ceremony but booked the chapel just in case. We ended up having to move it inside last minute. They were excellent! I was very impressed with they ladys that worked with us that day.
Newburg Church = we were married in the church on site at Greenmead. It is a beautiful building & fit perfectly with our vision. The Greenmead attendants/volunteers on our wedding day were wonderful.
Alexander Blue House = we also hosted our reception at Greenmead in the Blue House. Thanks to our caterer and florist - it was breathtaking. What a beautiful, historic building to hold a small wedding. It was wonderful & the Greenmead attendants/volunteers were sweet women.
My only hesitation in recommending Greenmead is the Coordinator you will work with. She is very difficult & quite discouraging. But if Greenmead fits your vision for you & your spouse's wedding day - see it through. You won't regret it.
