We booked this venue believing the sales pitch of a seamless, high-end experience. Instead, we received a masterclass in "Over-Promising and Under-Delivering." Your standard respon...
se to negative reviews is to blame "new staff," but the issues we faced were strictly management failures.
1. Management Failure: The Environment
New staff didn't cause the heaters to run out of gas. Management did. We were promised a heated room for a December wedding. We arrived to find the heaters dead and no backup plan. Our guests, including the elderly, sat in their winter coats all night. That is not a "training issue"; that is negligence.
2. Management Failure: The Inventory
New staff didn't cause a brewery to run out of beer. Management did. Running out of your own product during a wedding reception is baffling. Furthermore, we were promised hard seltzers, only to be told day-of that you "couldn't get them."
3. The "Service Standard" Reality
You often reply that bad service "does not reflect your standards." Unfortunately, based on our experience, this is your standard.
The Lunch Warning: During our site visit, we were given free beer samples (the only positive) but were then ignored for lunch service. We had to hunt down a waiter to order.
The Wedding Reality: This negligence continued at the wedding. Steaks were served without knives (we had to go find them ourselves). Salads were pre-set, and instead of clearing them, servers awkwardly shoved hot entrees onto the table while guests were still eating, stacking plates like a cafeteria.
The First Dance: The music was controlled by a staff member's personal phone. During our First Dance, the volume needed adjustment, but the staff member (and the phone) had vanished.
4. The Cultural Insensitivity
The most distressing moment was when a guest of Asian descent was guided by staff to a table of other Asian patrons who were not even part of our wedding. Assuming guests belong together based solely on race is offensive profiling. Please do not insult us by calling this a "miscommunication."
5. Financial Ethics
We paid a gratuity fee in our contract. Yet, staff put out tip jars to solicit more money from our guests. This is double-dipping and unprofessional.
The Verdict
We brought these issues to Brad, who offered a free meal as compensation. We declined. Given that our first lunch there was ignored and our wedding dinner was chaotic, why would we return? A free meal or a 6-pack of beer does not fix a freezing room, a ruined First Dance, or racial profiling.
We had both our ceremony and reception at Guilford Hall in May 2025. It was perhaps the best wedding-related decision we made and we are so glad we did! The staff are so kind, acco...
mmodating and responsive. Even the head chef and the bartenders made special accommodations to our very particular menu and drink selections. The attention to detail and incorporation of our every preference cannot be understated. The Events Coordination team went above and beyond to make our vision a reality.
The biergarten was perfect for our ceremony (although if you are having more than 110 guests, it might be a tight squeeze). The Cigar Room makes for a *stunning* photo backdrop and the patio was perfect for a fun, laid back cocktail hour where our guests could mingle around, sit at picnic tables and take pictures. There are so many great spots for photos we didn't need to import a cheesy photo wall or selfie station.
But the real highlight is the reception in the Crown Hall. It was the perfect size for our party. We had a DJ, but if you want to bring a band into that room, you should consider having fewer than 10-12 tables otherwise there just simply isn’t room. The food and beverage selection for the dinner was top-notch, and if they don’t have something you want, they will order it. My husband wanted a very curated bourbon selection, and they managed to get every bottle he wanted (for an additional price).
Our only critique is that we noticed long lines for the bar during cocktail hour and reception. So if you have big drinkers in your crowd, ask for an additional bar set up somewhere to expedite beverage delivery.
I also highly recommend paying extra for a lighting company to put fabric and lights up otherwise the main focal point wall is just a blank grey square. We went with 27 Studios – one of many preferred vendors of Guilford that gave us a discount because they do so much business at that venue. We also had our DJ set up pin lights around the room for additional ambiance once the sun set (also an added fee).
If industrial chic is your vibe, then BOOK THIS VENUE YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. It’s so customizable and you can go all out or keep it simple or anywhere in between. Either way, these people work hard to make sure you have the best day ever!!!

reception to another state. Though we didn’t book with Guilford Hall, I’d definitely consider them for an event in the future.
Nicole and her team at Guilford absolutely crushed it! We had everything we needed and more. The space had something for all of our guests- an amazing outside cocktail hour at the ...
beer garden, cigars in the whiskey room, and plenty of space for a dance floor and all our tables in the reception area. The in house catering was amazing and incredibly tasty! Presentation of everything was perfect and the staff was there for everything we could ever want and need. We felt heard and attended to the whole night and they really have the magic touch for executing special moments and fantastic events! Not to mention they are one of the more affordable venues in the area!
Great place! The team was so helpful and the venue was beautiful. Food was great, highly reccomend!
We got married at Guilford on 11/11/23. Everything from our first visit/tour to the wedding day was an amazing, easy experience. What made us choose Guilford was the location and t...
he price - we wanted a city wedding without paying 20k just to rent the place. Guilford’s food is so amazing and we just absolutely loved the space. Nicole and Genesis were both great to work with. Nicole has many years of wedding experience she brings to Guilford. I also paid for a day-of coordinator from the venue which I recommend! They were flexible with my vendors and seriously took care of practically everything. We got so many compliments on the venue and would get married here again in a heart beat! Thank you Guilford!! I cannot recommend Guilford enough for those looking to have their wedding in Baltimore! I got married here in October 2023, and had the most positive wedding experience of anyone ...
I know. I worked with Nicole to plan and coordinate the event in advance, and then worked with Brendan and Brad on the day of. Everyone I interacted with was incredibly professional, helpful and kind- which was even noted by many of my guests. The venue itself was beautiful - I utilized the outdoor courtyard for the ceremony and the upstairs for the reception. On the day of the wedding, I didn't have to lift a finger or answer a single question- their team was incredible. I have nothing but great things to say about having my wedding at Guilford Hall!
Guilford Hall Brewery went above and beyond our expectations for our fall wedding. Every single person on the team, from Nicole and Genesis (the supportive event coordinators), to ...
Ryan (the talented chef), to Claire (one of the amazing waitresses), and everyone else that works there, played a huge part in making this the best day of our lives. Nicole and Genesis continuously worked with us throughout the planning process to make sure our needs were met and offered suggestions and ideas to make it even better. They were very responsive and present and reassured us everything would be taken care of, and it was. When we met Ryan for the food tasting, he brought out food combinations I would have never thought of. It was hard to narrow it down to just a few things. Everything was unique, flavorful, fall-related, and delicious. People are still talking about the food a few weeks later. Not only was the staff incredible, but the venue itself was exactly what we wanted. We had our ceremony outside in the courtyard with 180 people, followed by the cocktail hour outside as well. The atmosphere had a very rustic, laid back, classy feel and everyone had a drink in their hand and a smile on their face. The ceremony was upstairs, surrounded by the iconic Baltimore exposed brick, which made the decorations pop. The light fixtures they have are beautiful enough that we didn’t need to set up any extra lights. Even though we had 180 people, it felt very intimate, surrounded by love. The staff at Guilford ensured everyone was taken care of throughout the entire night and having a great time. I would highly recommend you use this venue for your wedding, you won’t regret it.
