If you're fine with your MUA prioritizing trials over your own wedding day, she's your girl!
We booked with Kendra in July for my September wedding and had our trial in August. Ke...
ndra was aware of the bride’s and mother of the bride’s disabilities when we booked and throughout the planning process, so our accessibility needs were not a last-minute surprise.
With less than a week until the wedding, Kendra informed us that she would need to start makeup at 9:00 AM for our 3:00 PM wedding.
Normally, that might not have been an issue, but both the bride and the mother of the bride are disabled, and being up and getting ready six hours before the wedding was not a safe option for them. We explained that doing so could potentially result in a hospitalization and asked if there was any flexibility with the schedule.
Kendra ultimately said that 9:30 AM- 10AM was the very latest she could start because she had another makeup TRIAL scheduled for later that afternoon. Even then, the MOTB may not even get fully done, and she would still keep the entire payment for a full face.
This left us having to find another MUA with only six days before the wedding, which was extremely stressful on top of everything else that comes with planning a wedding.
Thankfully, our wedding planner was able to find another MUA who was willing to work with our required schedule, and fortunately, the wedding being on a Monday gave us some additional options.
One lesson we definitely took away from this experience: get every important scheduling and accessibility requirement clearly documented in a formal contract, including specific times and dates. Had we had a properly executed contract documenting the agreed-upon schedule and requirements, we would have had a much clearer basis for addressing the situation through our attorneys instead of having to scramble to find a replacement six days before the wedding.
I genuinely wish things had worked out with Kendra, but changing the schedule less than a week before the wedding, despite already knowing about our accessibility needs, left us in a very difficult position. If you have accessibility or scheduling requirements, I would strongly recommend getting everything clearly laid out in a proper contract before booking.
