management. Months before our wedding, we repeatedly had to correct our hotel's banquet event order because it did not reflect negotiated pricing and concessions in our signed contract. Although eventually resolved, the process was unnecessarily stressful. We paid for a two-hour brunch buffet from 1:15–3:15 pm When we ate around 2:15, the eggs, sausage, and potatoes were cold. We observed no effective measures to keep the food warm. Our hotel contact, Michael Barreto, subsequently acknowledged in writing that the buffet had not received a complete culinary refresh and that its temperature and quality had declined. Despite extensive advance coordination, the confirmed dairy-free yogurt and cream cheese were never provided. The eggs also contained dairy, with no alternative available. This left several guests, including the groom, with very limited breakfast options at his own wedding.  We paid $660 for three dozen bagels and smoked salmon. The bagels were untoasted and included inappropriate varieties such as blueberry and apple. Few guests appeared interested in eating them. This was extremely disappointing given the price. We specifically arranged for our wedding doughnuts to be held until our cake cutting. Instead, staff placed them out with the breakfast pastries at 1:15 p.m., hours before the intended dessert service. Our confirmed tray-passed welcome mimosas and Bloody Marys were never served. Some bar staff were unfriendly, and tip jars were displayed despite a 26% service charge already being included in our beverage packages. Loose cement tiles near our sweetheart table also created a tripping hazard for older guests. Following our wedding, we escalated these concerns through multiple levels of management. Michael acknowledged several failures in writing. Kathryn Guzinski, Area Director of Sales and Marketing, also recognized that aspects of the service had not aligned with expectations communicated beforehand but told us we had "differing perspectives". McClinton Heil, Area Managing Director, characterized our complaints as a few small discrepancies and described the hotel's financial adjustment as generous. That adjustment totaled just $566.94, representing a refund of the additional buffet hour ($410 plus fees and taxes). Nothing additional was offered for the missing dietary accommodations, poorly executed $660 bagel service, ruined dessert presentation, missing welcome drinks, or other failures. We requested $1,500 in total service-related relief but ultimately accepted the $566.94 simply to conclude the dispute. Halcyon's rooftop spaces are beautiful, but we cannot recommend its wedding banquet operation. We spent months coordinating details and confirming arrangements, yet numerous commitments were overlooked. Most disappointing was management's response. Even after acknowledging several mistakes in writing, leadership minimized their cumulative impact. Weddings can't be repeated when things go wrong. Couples deserve confidence that their venue will honor confirmed arrangements and take meaningful responsibility when it fails to do so. Unfortunately, Halcyon did not meet those expectations. We hope our experience helps other couples make an informed decision.
