In the end, the cake was phenomenal! However, the process was...eh. We initially came for cake tasting on a Saturday. The showroom was very busy, and we were not immediately greeted. Once we were directed to speak with a sales representative, it took them quite some time to take our sample order and bring it to us. I'm not sure if it was the day we went, but the samples were hard and tasted like they were days old. We left there not feeling confident that this bakery would be what we truly wanted.
After a couple months, we went back to Hansen's (on a weekday), and it was soooo much better! Service was excellent, samples were excellent, it was like a different bakery! Overall, we were happy with this decision (just make sure to sample on weekdays if possible).
Absolutely AMAZING
We worked with Hansen's cakes (L.A.) because they were a preferred vendor of our wedding reception, Duke's Malibu. We had frequent contact with Kathy Smith, who provided us with an array of flavor/styling options. Kathy was very attentive & responsive to our requests, and she helped coordinate our order with Duke's. Because we were out-of-towners we had not had the opportunity to taste their cakes before contracting them, but I must say that I was extremely satisfied with our selection. On the day of the event we were able to view/taste the finished product, and the cupcakes that we ordered (~ 120 guests) were aesthetically perfectly & extremely delicious - I probably ate a half dozen of them to myself! Thank you so much for providing a perfect service that complemented our reception. Well done!
We went to cake tasting and it was delicious, but once our cake arrived the filling was so hard and thick that it made the top layer of the cake be a bit unstable. My top layer that I took home didn’t make it home intact and venue was only 15 minutes away from my house. Reception was only three hours so the cake wasn’t out too long.
Taste wise the chocolate was delicious, the butter cream was a tad sweet but I liked it. It was a good cake, but it wasn’t the best ever.
MOST DELICIOUS CAKES!
Now my husband and I are spoiled and visit at least monthly to purchase cupcakes and small cakes because these are tastier than all others.
This is the place where LA celebrities get their cakes! The cakes are delicious and the BEST value anywhere. I ordered a gorgeously elegant and classic cake for $3.50 a slice. They deliver cakes to your event for a very reasonable fee.
Their communication is poor, however. They work best face-to-face. There are free cake tastings and this is where all the planning with the employees happens. Follow-up questions via telephone were either not picked up, ignored, or nonchalantly answered, But ! was not disappointed with the product on our wedding day.
The cake was gorgeous and delicious! Everything I dreamed of.
Our cake was included in our venue contract and it was delicious; however, it wasn't quite what we ordered.
The monogram that we paid an additional out of pocket fee for was on the top layer not the middle, the layers were not separated by pedestals as requested at our tasting, and the top layer was filled with some sort of regular chocolate cream when we had chosen the white chocolate ganache. I had been looking ford to the ganache for months and it wasn't there which was very disappointing.
Overall it wasn't a huge deal, but I would've greatly appreciated receiving what we had ordered as we ordered it. The red velvet and white cake with strawberry filling tasted great though.
Absolutely delicious and if I could have taken it back to NY I would have. Hansen's provided my wedding cake and it was so good that I believe most guests went back for a 2nd piece. I myself enjoyed 2 pieces because of how flavorful and delicious the cake was.
Hansen's is so easy to work with and really makes the process so easy. I would highly recommend Hansen's for any special event.
Our wedding cake was divine!! The 4-tiered rose covered cake with the 2 white buttercream layers and 2 mocha chip layers was a definite hit with us and our guests. We secretly made 2 cake tasting appointments before our wedding because it was SO DELICIOUS!! 😋
Simply the best there is - thank you Hansen's!!!!
Hansen's created our wedding cake. It was beautiful and tasted great! We got many compliments on how good the cake was.
Hansen's Cakes made us the perfect wedding cake! We ordered white with buttercream frosting, German chocolate, and white with raspberry filling. They were all yummy, and everyone loved the cake. I took the top tier home to enjoy with the hubby, and had a slice 3 days after the wedding and it was still just so delicious even a few days after! Suzie G. (fairfax/los angeles location) was so sweet and helpful, we really enjoyed working with her, and are so happy we went with them. The cake looked and tasted great, and delivery was right on time! Thank you Hansen's!

My venue recommended me using Hansen cakes and I was happy I made this choice, because:
1) they have the best selection of wedding cakes in Los Angeles
2) I went to 2 cake tastings! There are too many choices and you have to try them all ("Strawberry Sunshine" and "Chocolate Mocha Chip" were out of this world!!!)
Tonya wrote all details and made all arrangements.
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO CHECK THE COLOR NAME AND ACTUAL LOOK !!
My coordinator were sending "Lavender" as PURPLEish, but HANSEN CAKE makes it BLUE despite calling lavender..
So, the beautiful PEACH - LAVENDER color combination turned out to look SILLY, if not TERRIBLE in ORANGE - BLUE ;((
Anyway, my venue made partial refund and of coarse cake tasted really delicious!! I just recommend brides to order pure white cake... LOL
I was really upset about confusion with colors, but honestly, I am so looking forward for the next opportunity to order another cake at Hansen Cakes..
Man they came through. High end quality, gorgeous, and totally finished cupcakes for… wait for it…. a dollar! A DOLLAR! In LA that’s like a unicorn. And it’s the same cake that they have for wedding cake. We had a cupcake tower (and they made the cutting top of it as well,) and it was brilliant. A DOLLAR!!!
Hansen's provided cupcakes and a top round cake for our wedding. We honestly had a great experience at first, the cakes are really good. However, as our wedding approached we were very disappointed with the service. We had gone to Hansen's 3 months before our wedding to provide them a swatch for the cake to match our colors. However, 3 days before the wedding they called my husband and rudely told him that his fiancee (me) never brought the swatch in. Luckily, my husband was with me when we dropped the swatch off so he sternly told them that. They had lost our swatch and now we had no time to drop it off (since they waited until 3 days before to realize they misplaced it), so we emailed it to them. Needless to say, the day of the wedding we were very disappointed in the color that they made the cake as they made it more of a royal blue than the blue we provided. We also paid an additional cost to get a specific look for the cake (shells/beach look), however they only put it on the bottom of the cake surrounding it instead of on top (again as we requested).
Though the cake was really good, we were very displeased with the service and overall outcome of our cake, especially when we paid extra money for upgrades.
My husband's family has been ordering cakes from Hansen's for generations, so there was no question who we'd go with for our wedding cake. Unfortunately this cake wasn't quite up to Hansen's typical standards. The icing was messy and uneven and on our simple cake design that was quite noticeable. The cake also arrived 2 hours after their agreed upon delivery window. Fortunately it got there before everything started, but that was a headache my coordinator didn't need. The cake itself was quite tasty.
My husband would definitely recommend this vendor to a friend. I would consider other options first.
WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT A WEDDING CAKE SO GORGEOUS...THAT ONE OF MY WEDDING GUESTS WHO IS GETTING MARRIED IN APRIL, 2015 WANTS THE SAME CAKE...........RAVE REVIEWS...THANKS OLLIE AT HANSENS FOR THE GORGEOUS CAKE AND WONDERFUL DELIVERY TO THE PORTOFINO YACHT CLUB OCTOBER 12TH, 2014 WHEN WE WERE MARRIED :)
I would only recommend Hansen's Cakes if you really want something opulant, ornate, or over the top. We get our son's birthdays cakes here every year, and it's always perfect because it's a big & over the top, colorful display! But for our beachy wedding at a yacht club, an over the top wedding cake was not what we were looking for. For the price, the cake certainly looked nice, but the actual flavor is run of the mill and small things like fruit garnish and other details couldn't be accommodated. They strictly do CAKES, no fruit tarts, pies, etc. and they do not use fondant. If you want a standard cake you could probably get one for cheaper! If you want a 7-tiered masterpiece with piping and your and your beloved's faces on the top, then this is the place for you!
OUR CAKE WAS PERFECT!
My sister's wedding cake was all wrong and you hear horror stories about cakes going terribly wrong from size and shape to delivering on time.
Hansen's was amazing. They got our cake exactly right. We opted for the large cake instead of a smaller cake with a sheet cake, which brought our price up $500.
They let you go through a sample of colors, almost like wall paints, so that you can pick EXACTLY what colors you want and where. It was so personal. And the cake tasting process is just phenomenal.
It tasted great, looked great, and every detail was right.
Would 100% recommend them if you aren't a billionaire and care about money. Their cake is really good and they are by far the least expensive cake place in the area. I couldn't find another wedding cake bakery that was close in price.
The store in Beverly Hills is tiny and gross. I first went their for the free tasting but they we're out and sent us to the fairfax location close by.
Fairfax is much bigger but also a disgusting outdated store. The staff doesn't really seem to know what's going on, but the cake was beautiful, delicious and much less expensive that anywhere else.
I would recommed them again in a heartbeat. We had three layers and each layer was a different flavor with no extra costs.
Including delivery, I think we spent about $350 for a cake that feeds 75 people from the first two layers with the top layer able to be saved to have on our first anniversary.
I went cake tasting at the Tarzana, CA location. Keep in mind that this locale is not the actual bakery, I was told that the cake would be baked at LA location on Fairfax Ave. However, they have cake tasting available here and I didn't need to schedule an appointment. We met with a really nice and older woman who brought out a tray of "squares" of cake individually wrapped in Saran wrap. I felt like I was at grandmas, tasting cake! I loved it. Depending on how many are expected to attend your wedding they make a suggestion as to how many tiers you should have. I got a 3 tiered cake and each tier was a different "flavor" cake. I showed them a photo of how I wanted my cake to look like (very simple) and they followed through, including the color (soft pink). Although I cannot rate on cost (it was included in my wedding venue package,)I can rate on taste and overall cake tasting and ordering experience which was excellent! The wonderful thing is that even though you have "pre-made" cake "squares" if there is a cake or a filling you like more or less, you can mix and match. They really cater to you. My bottom layer was red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, middle tier was bridal white cake with lemon frosting, top tier was marble cake with mocha chip filling (no chips!) I will be ordering a smaller cake for our one year anniversary since I did not want to freeze the top layer of cake. I rather have it fresh and Hansen's is known for having the most MOIST cake EVER!
I was 100% happy with my wedding cake. Ordering the cake was easy - I stopped in the Tarzana location on my lunchbreak and Jack had my cake ordered in about 20 min. They had great samples and options which made it easy to choose. The cake was beautiful and tasty.
This is one of the most highly touted bakeries in LA and they do have wonderful cakes. The only reason they don't get five stars is because our cake almost didn't exist. The only reason they don't get one star is because the cake was fabulous once it was made! I placed my order a couple months prior to the wedding then decided, luckily, to reconfirm with them and let them know I had a real flower topper to use. When I called a week before the wedding, they had no record of the order at all. I had to go back in and place the order again. To their credit, they didn't charge us the extra fee for the extra tier after that. But I would definitely recommend double checking your order with them!
The cake was amazing. First, when we went to the tasting the people were sooo nice. My mom wanted to do everything in person and they were very kind and understanding. On the day of, the cake was gorgeous. We were just looking at pictures admiring how pretty it was. But not only did it look good, it tasted good too. Everyone told us how good the cake was.
The cake artist truly captured my vision. The cake was stunning. My husband & I wanted to use the logo from our wedding invitation on our cake and the artist was able to take a picture and duplicate it onto the cake exactly. It bordered the cake and was stunning! 4 tiers with fresh peonies on top! And as always, the cake was moist, flavorful & delicious!
Monique is the best sales associate ever. Speak with Monique H. at the Beverly Hills store if you want your cake to be spectacular. The best thing about Hansen's cakes is that the cake always is moist and spectacular.
Reasonably priced cakes that taste great.
We were on a tight budget and did not want to spend a lot of money on a cake. We found a venue for our reception and it turned out the cake was included in the cost of the reception. The wedding caterer gave me the name and number of the place to order our cake. It was Hansen's Cakes in Beverly Hills. When we arrived they were very professional and let us taste all the cakes we could choose from. Once we picked the flavor and type of cake we got to choose from a large variety of cakes. I was not expecting a huge cake because it was included in a package I thought it would be plan. Wow I was so wrong I ended up with a 5 tier cake, the flavor and colors I wanted on the cake. I was so impressed and I was able to get multiple flavors for the cake. The cake was so much better than I could have imagined it was absolutely beautiful. I can't rate on the price since it was included in my reception price but I can tell you the cake was amazing and the company is very professional. I would absolutely use them again. Thank you Hansen's Cakes for helping make my dream day come true.
We hired Hansen's to do our wedding cake. We had a choice of several bakers included in our package at Almansor Court. We went to one and they didn't specialize in wedding cakes, where as Hansen's does. That is the main reason we chose them. When we went for the tasting, they didn't have very many cakes for us to taste, and they were little pieces wrapped in cellophane. They only do buttercream frosting, no whipped cream. So everything was very sweet. That was my only complaint. My husband loves the cake, but I thought it was way too sweet. We chose it anyway and I have to say the appearance of the cake was beautiful! We chose red flowers with green leaves to be dripping down the sides, and we never saw one like it in person, until the day of the wedding. I was worried the frosting flowers might look messy and actually drip, but it came out perfect and beautiful! The cake was nice and moist, not dry like others. We had them leave the flowers off the top, so we could put our handmade cake topper and that worked well. The cake didn't look incomplete without the flower build-up on top. One thing I was surprised by, was they only offered us two tiers, because we only had 70 people to feed. They offered to separate the tiers with pillars which we did and I recommend. At the wedding, it looked like a large beautiful cake. We surrounded it with candles, making it even more stunning!
I must first start off by saying that not only was the cake amazing but the service was even greater. I went cake tasting with my mom and ended up staying for 2 hours having the best time with the owners daughter Monique chatting about everything. Although my husband and I didn't actually get a chance to each the cake the night of our wedding other than what we smashed in each others faces, we look forward to our 1 year anniversary to eat our top layer carrot cake. I highly recommend Hansen's Cakes and their Kahlua mocha filling, absolutely delish!!!
Very nice and delicious cakes yet to expensive
We decided to go with Hansen's because several friends had mentioned they had good cakes. (The cake was included in our wedding with our venue and we had 2 bakeries to go with.) Our overall experience with Hansen's was good. All three flavors of our cake turned out amazing and all of our guests who had the cake loved it.
When we went there for our first tasting, the gal who helped us with the tasting was great. She was really nice and had a lot of tips for us about popularity of flavors. The gal who helped us with the order (don't remember her name) could not rush us through the process any faster. We went on a Sunday about an hour before closing so maybe that's why she had so much attitude and was in a rush to get us to leave and make a decision. Needless to say, I went back a week later and thank goodness the same girl wasnt' there. Another girl, (I think her name was Jennifer) helped us and she was super sweet and understanding of me "changing my mind" on the cake flavors and colors of the ribbon. We saved our top layer and I hope it's just as good on our 1 year anniversary. :)
the best!
We got our cake from Hansen's Cakes and our guests LOVED it! I thought the champagne filling was a bit sweet, but apparently I was in the minority. My only complaint was that the delivery charge was ridiculously high. It was the weekend of the 405 closing, so it may have been unusually marked up. Otherwise, it was worth the money and they were the only bakery willing to make a square cake with round corners using butter cream frosting.
I must say that when we first went here for our tasting. I was so unhappy with the customer service (just one lady), that I swore I would not give them my business. However, there was one cake flavor that I tasted (french vanilla mouse chip), that I just could not get out of my head and my taste buds would not let me forget.
I went in for another visit to taste it again. I brought our cake design and the same lady that rubbed me the worng way worked with me every step of the way and very helpful. The entire team loved our African Adinkra Symbol design and colors. They were very flexible and catered to my every need and concern.
The cake was excellent.
Hansen's cake was one of the two cake vendors we could choose from as part of the catering package that the hotel reception venue we were using. They had a great reputation and they lived up to it. The cake was tasty and they produced the exact cake we had asked for.
This cake was the best cake I ever had! All my guests are still talking about how good the cake was. It looked great and was just so moist and was incredible. The staff at Hansen's was very nice and helpful and it turned out amazing!
I wish I could include a photo of our Wedding cake here! It was a work of art! Simple, beautiful, matched our colors perfect because they asked for a swatch! Delicious and my favorite part...a GREAT deal!!! We got to have a spectacular Wedding cake for a fraction of what I thought it would cost. We went for their economy line and got a GORGEOUS three tiered cake. Each tier a different flavor. Our favorite was tasting/ordering day! They delivered for a small fee, set up and voila! Just photograph and eat! We actually ordered with Jack at the Tarzana store for ease of delivery to our location but Fairfax still bakes everything. Same great place. Hansen's is special because they can do anything! LOVE that we went with them!!
I decided to use Hansen's cakes because I needed a wheat-free option due to an allergy. I had a 3 tier cake, with the top tier gluten-free. I had a lot of compliments on the cake after the wedding. It was really good! It was delivered to the right place at the right time for my reception too. The only downside, was the customer service when ordering the cake months before... even though we scheduled an appointment, the sales woman would leave us for 15 to 20 minutes at a time to deal with other customers. It took a lot longer to order our cake than it should have. But the taste of the cake was worth it
The cake was delicious! We had 3 tiers with 3 different flavors, and they were all amazing. The color of the cake was NOT the one we had discussed. (Apparently "cream" or "ivory" looks yellow to them), but aside from that the cake was gorgeous and delicious!
We used Hansen's for our wedding cake vendor. The cake was delicious and beautifully designed and was promtly delivered for my sunday wedding even though the bakery isnt open on Sundays. I also had Hansens make my bridal shower cake!
I am gluten intolerant, so imagine my joy when I found out that one of the best bakeries in Los Angeles creates Gluten-Free wedding cakes AND that I would be able to go in and have a cake tasting! I was so grateful to be able to experience that part of my wedding planning and celebration, and appreciate Hansen's help with my special dietary needs. The cake was beautiful, created to my specifications and delivered in a timely manner. Plus, the staff at Hansen's were super helpful and just a blast to work with. There is an extra charge for Gluten Free tiers (we had the top two tiers made gluten free, and the bottom two made normally, then to avoid contamination, all tiers were separated by spacers), but it was well worth it to be able to cut and eat my wedding cake!
We couldn't believe what a value this was! The most delicious cake ever and it was completely reasonable! It looked and tasted incredible!
Hansen's was one of three bakeries that were included in the wedding package at our reception venue, Quiet Cannon. As I live out of state my parents did the first tasting and said that Hansen's was by far the best. I am not much of a cake person, but their chocolate cake with chocolate chip filling sold me instantly! The other flavors we chose (carrot cake and white cake with white chocolate mousse and raspberry filling) were also a big hit with the guests. Everyone at Hansen's was extremely friendly and helpful, and provided a lot of good advice on what shades would be best for our fun orange and purple cake. Everyone at our reception was impressed not only by how great it looked but by how great it tasted!
The wedding cake had some scrapes which were obvious on an all white 4 tier square cake with no decoration, just trim. Groom's cake lacked a lot of detail for an XBOX cake considering how much we paid--totally bummed! But flavor of cakes were superb! Staff was also great!
It isn't difficult to make a wedding cake "pretty" these days....but who cares about a pretty cake if it doesn't TASTE good? Hansen's was the only bakery that was able to give us a gorgeous cake that was DELICIOUS as well! They were also on-time and efficient on the big day.
Hansen's Cakes is an institution in L.A. They have been around forever and have an excellent reputation. When I began the wedding planning process, I knew very few vendors that I would be using for sure, except for Hansen's. I had a birthday cake from there once and it was divine, plus it's just quintessential L.A. I was a little nervous about the price since they are used by much of Hollywood; however, I was very pleasantly surprised when I went to order my cake! Yes, I was praying that it would not be out of my league and they were not at all. They have several different price points, so yes, you certainly may order at celebrity prices, but they can do anything you want, so you may also pay regular person prices--which is what I did! : ) Anyway, one of the designers helped me decide exactly what I semi-knew I wanted, I picked the flavor, paid and was out the door in 30 minutes-a record for me! Anyway, every guest at my wedding commented on how much they loved the cake and thought it was the best cake they had ever eaten; which they also thought was odd because wedding cake usually isn't the best cake you've ever eaten. I highly recommend the marble cake with mocha chip filling--absolutely divine!
The cake looked great and tasted better. I bought a 4 tier cake (of course saving the top one). There was NO cake left ANYWHERE!!! Everyone LOVED it!!!
And if that's your #1- they won't disappoint. We live in Phoenix but we got married in Hollywood, CA. Hansen's cakes was recommended to us by our wedding venue. We were working with time constraints since we were in town only for the weekend to plan our wedding. We had been to a few other bakeries that weren't nearly as professional or affordably prices as Hansen's was. Our cake was relatively simple... 3 tier... buttercream (it tastes better and you know it). And surprisingly the price was much more affordable than the other bakeries we visited despite their celeb. clientele. Our fav and our guests fav cake flavor was the orange creame cake HANDS DOWN. Try it. It's life changing. My only complaint was that I specified on the cake selection I made that I didn't like the beveled (smooth/rounded- sloping slightly) edges of the cake as it was shown in the picture and that I preferred the more clean & traditional cake edge. They made a note of it on my order (albeit it was a hurried order since they were about to close) and the day of my wedding the cake showed up with the beveled edges as shown in the picture. All things considered it wasn't the end of the world... the cake was still beautiful... tasted great... was there on time... and nobody knew the difference. (not even my mom). I did- of course, because I was the bride and I knew what I had asked for. =) But all things considered I would recommend them again- just reiterate to them any detail specifics as they may get lost in the insane vortex of wedding details. Happy wedding!
As crazy as this sounds, I wanted a cake that I saw in a bridal magazine ten years prior to my engagement. After describing this cake to the woman who worked at the Hansen's in the valley, she actually pulled the exact magazine out and I got my perfect cake.
It seems Hansen's can do anything, but you do have to have a picture of the cake you want for them to make it. Luckily they have a lot of pictures.
To save money on my huge wedding, I got a three tiered cake and then had plain sheet cakes to be cut as well.
Plus, their cakes are delicious!
design and taste was excellent
I loved my cake ... it was exactly what I wanted. Hansen's is also very reasonably priced.
I loved how they catered to my need and taste.
Ann (the owner) was great to work with. They are very generous with their samples, and so easy to work with - I brought a hand drawn picture of what I wanted and they priced it accordingly. They also have hundreds of options that you can look at based on your style and can even further customize it as needed. The cake was BEAUTIFUL and unique, and absoluetly delicious. We received many many complements on the taste and overall design of the cake and were very pleased. We woudl definitely use them for other cake needs in the future ! Ann is very knowledgable about the business as well.
We got more compliments on the cake than anything else! It tasted amazing and the cost was less than I expected to pay.
The cake looked and tasted great.;They charged extra for everything. I felt like I was in an assembly line when I sat down next to order the cake. They promised the cake to be delivered at a certain time when I ordered it, then when the time came, they fired their delivery person and could not promise when it would be delivered. I worried that the cake would not be there. It became my problem when they fired their delivery person. It should have been their problem, but they put it on me with that excuse. They seemed disorganized and confused. They did not supply a box for the top of the wedding cake, and the venue had to wrap it in foil.
The cake tasted amazing! There was a ton of cake and filling flavors to choose from. There were a lot of designs to choose from.;Some of the staff was difficult to work with, and wern't very friendly.
