About this vendor
Harpor’s Vineyard is a stunning wedding venue in New Virginia, IA. Deluxe amenities meet scenic surroundings to create a one-of-a-kind occasion. This magical hideaway can host up to 2,000 guests. Nearby hotels and casinos let the celebrations go on even longer.
Harpor’s Vineyard is a historic estate turned contemporary event venue. Owners Chelsie and Shay Dulle transformed the space with modern luxury in mind. They have hosted an impressive list of international clients. The vineyard has become a well-known location for high-end destination weddings. One of the venue’s most attractive features is its lovely outdoor ceremony locations. Bright, grassy meadows and lush leafy canopies set a magical scene. Couples can tie the knot in the evening below romantic string lights. From the very beginning, the venue staff strives for individuality. They modify their deluxe dressing rooms to reflect couples’ personalities. Both sides of the wedding party will have a space to make themselves at home. The vineyard’s refined suites each have their own distinct character. One offers a bright, airy setting with an ornate chandelier. The other feels cozy and personal, dimly lit with fancy sconces. An intimate courtyard sets the scene for sophisticated portraits. Bursting with lovely white flowers, it feels classically elegant. Edison lights add a touch of rustic charm. Receptions can be held in the venue’s prized deck area. Lavish lounge furniture and a fire pit provide an air of indoor comfort. This works well with the surrounding views of the vineyards. With yard games available, guests might just want to stay here all night. The renovated barn offers an indoor alternative for the main event. This spacious setting feels polished and sophisticated. Sleek wooden beams go well with ornamental light fixtures. It provides an intimate setting for guests to come together and celebrate.

Design Consultant Carol makes improvements to the vineyard on a yearly basis. This ensures that the space feels elegant and up to date. Specialty lighting is provided to brighten up your big day. The team can set up market lights, uplighting, and more. The venue has its own experienced planning team. They will meet with you to learn your vision and guide you through the process. They have connections with excellent outside vendors. This will give you access to some of the best in the business. On the day, the team offers setup, bar services, and day-of-event coordination. Nice looking place.
Poorly managed by the owner. She didn't show up for check in for over three hours after our arrival.
The house that we were to stay at was still dirty from a pr...
evious wedding three days before.
Trash was at the front door upon our arrival and was still there five days later. All beds and linens where dirty, bathroom dirty.
The rear deck had a step that broke causing my wife to fall and get injured the day before.
The "dance floor" was a poorly constructed deck with slats to catch heels. My wife also got her heel caught and face planted into an interior post. I know of four others that fell that night, including my daughter, the bride.
The owner does not care. In fact she finally talked to my wife and offered to pay her medical expenses, but this was during a walk through of another potential victim.
We shall see.
Future couples beware.
My partner and I toured this venue twice at the beginning of June, as it was the first place we visited when we started looking for wedding venues. The first time we came in, there...
seemed to be some miscommunication- no one knew we were coming, and they were in the middle of setting up for a wedding. We waited while they tracked someone down to give us a tour.
Despite this, we were still very interested, so we came back for a second tour after coordinating a specific time. When we arrived, Chelsie, the owner, was working on wedding planning with another bride, so again we waited. Throughout both tours, Chelsie was extremely kind, answered all of our questions, and gave us helpful recommendations for vendors.
Chelsie told us we would receive a proposal either that evening or the next day. Unfortunately, we never received anything. We tried following up multiple times- by text, email, and phone calls- and received no response at all. After waiting for a couple of weeks to give them the benefit of the doubt, we finally began looking at other venues. By that point, we had lost quite a bit of time waiting for a response and found that the date we really wanted (or anything close to it) was no longer available elsewhere.
It’s disappointing because the venue itself is beautiful and had a lot of the features we were looking for. But the complete lack of follow-through and communication from the owner left us feeling like maybe we’d done something wrong or that our business wasn’t valued.
We understand people get busy, especially in the wedding industry, but going over a month with zero reply despite multiple outreach attempts was disheartening and, ultimately, the reason we had to move on. I wish our experience had been different.
Planning a wedding is more than a financial investment—it’s an emotional one, built on trust and clear communication. We chose Harpor’s not just for its beautiful setting, but beca...
use of the specific assurances made directly to us by the owner, Chelsie, who also served as our assigned coordinator. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect those expectations.
We held our wedding at Harpor’s on June 28, 2025, and purchased their premium coordination package anticipating consistent support, timely communication, and professional service throughout the planning process. However, we often had to follow up on messages, reschedule missed meetings, and take on many coordination responsibilities ourselves. Several services listed in our package such as custom venue layouts, detailed timelines, and a final confirmation meeting, were not provided.
On the day of the wedding, multiple services were either mismanaged or not delivered. For example, our five-hour open bar was initially restricted, and some guests were charged for drinks during what we understood to be the prepaid period. We also paid for the venue’s late-night pizza service, which was not served. When we inquired, we were told by Chelsie, “I didn’t know you wanted that,” though this add-on service was included in our proposal and signed agreement.
Our families had to step in and help coordinate the event, including assistance in setting up tables and transporting florals from ceremony to reception, due to a lack of available staff support.
After the wedding, we contacted the venue to request a partial refund for services we believe were not rendered. Our initial message went unanswered for over a week. After several follow-ups, we heard back from a different coordinator, Justice Parker, who acknowledged the issues and said they would follow up within 48 hours. That was a week ago, and we still haven’t heard anything further.
It has now been nearly a month since our wedding, and we are still seeking resolution for the services we believe were not delivered. We are continuing to pursue this matter privately, but wanted to share our experience so that other couples can make informed decisions.
We had our wedding here in June. The venue its self is beautiful and maintained very well. We really liked the venue because of the outdoor aspect and not feeling like you’re indoo...
rs all day / night. Our guests enjoyed this part of it as well. We were able to drop some items off and set up some things the day before which helped so much. They were accommodating with us coming to the venue a little earlier to start hair and makeup and letting the guys get into the house sooner to get ready. The best way to end our wedding day was going back to the house with our bridal party and some other friends.
The biggest thing with Harpor’s was when we booked with them we were told there would be a lot of communication leading up to the day. I was told there would be a 90 day and then another meeting 2-4 weeks out prior to the day. The online portal says there will be a 45 day and 2 week before meeting. I was also told I could call, text or send messages through the portal with any questions at any time. I had to be the one to reach out to coordinate the first meeting (I started having other vendors asking questions to coordinate). This is where I met with my “direct point of contact”, who I later found out didn’t work at the venue any more from a different vendor, it was not communicated with me from Harpor’s my contact had changed. I called the venue multiple times, texted, sent emails and messages through the portal for a meeting 2 weeks before to finalize everything and I got not response. We were 8 days from our wedding when I finally received a callback to answer questions. I was reassured that everything would get done the day of by the venue and not to worry. I was very organized with everything related to decorations and set up, everything was in totes with labels of where it should be and how it should look. It was said to some of my girls during the set up that I as the bride hadn’t told anyone anything of where it will go. There was also a major miscommunication between another vendor and Harpor’s.
All in all, the venue is beautiful and everything did turn out great. There was just a lot of unnecessary stress associated with the lack of communication from Harpor’s. The helping staff is very kind and will get everything done the day of.
My fiancé and I went and toured Harpors on June 29th. We really loved the venue and were thinking about booking with them. We were told we would be getting a proposal with final pr...
icing that same night. We waited and did not receive anything. I gave an email Monday morning and had no response. Since then, I have tried to reach out in multiple ways, calls, emails, online forms, and have not heard a single thing. We wanted to give grace for the holiday weekend and hoped we would hear back after the 4th.
It has now almost been two weeks since our tour and we have not heard anything from them. We feel super disappointed because the venue is pretty and we would have really loved to have Harpors as an option for a venue. Unfortunately due to very poor communication we no longer will be considering Harpors.
We understand that things come up and they may be busy but two weeks with no communication at all seems absurd. We would have appreciated a quick phone call or email to clear up whatever was going on but just have not heard anything. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated. We have not experienced this poor of communication with any other venue we have toured.
We got married at harpors vineyard a little over 3 weeks ago -06-09-23- and all we are still saying is WOW. Lots of family and friends are still talking to us about how much fun th...
ey had and how amazing the wedding was! From attention to detail in the early stages of wedding planning down to every last detail/set up on wedding day was perfect! Hope was our day of coordinator and we are so grateful for her putting out any of the pre-wedding fires. (I may have lost the marriage license for a few minutes but Hope found it!) She was also super fun and easy going which made the day so much more relaxing where we could just focus on the fun parts of getting married! I genuinely felt like I didn’t lift a finger! The worst part of the day was when it ended! Brad and I have joked we need to get married there again just because of how much fun we had; plus how amazing and catering the entire staff at harpors was! Highly recommend getting married here if you want a beautiful venue, a fun, hardworking staff, and an easy fun time! Anyone want to invite us to future weddings here so we can keep going back?
Harpor's Vineyard is a truly gorgeous venue. Although it's located about 45 minutes outside of Des Moines, the remote actually made it even more of a destination wedding than eith...
er myself or my husband had anticipated. They have (practically) everything you need there! Their Day-Of staff are some of the sweetest people and are absolutely there to handle every issue that arises. Their decor is gorgeous and the bar was amazing.
There are a couple of reasons I can't give this venue 5 stars, however. First, there isn't a full kitchen, which I didn't foresee as being problematic, but ended up being a bit of an issue. Our caterers brought things in hot plates to keep them warm and were able to use their onsite pizza oven and a warmer that they have inside of their prep kitchen, but by the time our dishes were served, they were extremely cold, which some of our guests also confirmed. I think without the full kitchen where things can be cooked onsite, we ran the risk of having our plates be a bit colder. They do have places to keep things warm or heat them up, but there wasn't a way to have any hot meals. I know they are hoping to build this in the future, but just something to keep in mind with whoever you're hiring as your caterer.
The day of coordination team is really fantastic. Megan and Hope were our coordination and when I showed up, they were amazing and really lovely. I do think that more involvement earlier would be better however. I completely ran out of time to get everything done, and certain things were just unable to actually get accomplished. I think if we had had more conversations about set up, decor and everything else prior to the actual wedding day, it would have been an easier job to get done.
Additionally, there is no real place for the men to get ready, unless you rent House Harpors. House Harpors is really love and provides a gorgeous backdrop (our photos show as much!), but they did really push to get the groomsmen in before their normal scheduled check-in time of 3pm (our photos started at 2:30). Megan and the staff definitely got us in there in time, but it was a bit stressful, as there was no way to guarantee it, since there was a wedding party there the night before.
Other than those three reasons, I think Harpors is one of the best locations for a wedding in Iowa. I think that having some sort of kitchen added to the venue would really make it an all-in-one venue; this would be my biggest suggestion. But considering all of these things, I still loved this venue!
Harpors Vineyard is AMAZING. We received so many compliments from our guests about how beautiful the venue is, and how the staff was so extremely polite and helpful. Our wedding...

bridal lounge is perfect and makes for fantastic "getting ready" pictures. The grooms den (Yes--they have a specified place for the men!!!) is so rustic and charming.
