We saw Haute Skillet on Yelp when we were shopping around for wedding caterers and it immediately piqued our interest. We were planning on having a small wedding of less than 30 gu...ests and some of the other caterers in the area were quick to dismiss our inquiries since it’s such a small wedding. Anna entertained all our questions and pretty soon after a few emails, we set up a tasting appointment with her.
The food she provided in the tasting was very flavorful and we decided right then and there to book her. Keep in mind that this was the first and only tasting we’d done with a caterer we’d contacted. We were so impressed with her presentation and overall customer service that we knew we would be in good hands.
We set up another tasting a few months later to finalize our menu and the rest you could say, was history. Anna was very good in communicating with us via email and answering all our questions, no matter how menial they may be. This helped put our minds at ease, since we were planning our wedding about 4 hours away from the SLO area and were not able to travel there at a drop of a hat to meet with vendors.
Anna made sure to visit the venue and coordinate with them regarding the set up and breakdown for our wedding. On the day of the wedding, her team arrived early to set the reception area. They made do with the materials we provided and set everything up as well as they could, given the fact that it was very windy that day (and we couldn’t really bolt everything down to the tables, haha). They also set up our self-serve champagne bar as a welcome drinks to our guests as they arrived for the ceremony.
The food was amazing! My guests could not stop raving about the bacon wrapped shrimp skewers and Mac and cheese in particular. I love that Anna had a plate of appetizers saved for me and my husband waiting at our table (which ensured we did not miss out on any of the passed appetizers). They also took extra steps in ensuring that we got served first, before any of the other guests (since they probably know that the bride and groom always forgets to eat in the midst of all the hubbub going on during the wedding day). We were pleasantly surprised that they had us go first. The ribeye was amazing, especially with the mushroom gravy smothered on top of it.
The bartender was her sister, who was absolutely kind and helpful. The chef was her sister’s husband, who ran the show really well. Anna was at a different wedding on the same day, but the staff she had for ours was very present and attentive to the needs of our guests.
The reception eventually got moved to within the big house in the property and we woke up the next day to find that they staff did an incredible job in cleaning up the event space and putting away the extra desserts that the guests did not eat.
We are so happy that we booked Haute Skillet and would do it again in a heartbeat. Anna, we wish you and your team all the best in your future endeavors.
