The main point of contact for rental is horrible. The reviews showed that she is hard to get in contact with. I had called twice with no response. When I called again, I left a message mentioning how the reviews stated that she was hard to reach and requested again. She called back stating that she was sick last week. I said I was sorry to hear that. She then asked how big our guest list was and when I told her our tentative list was 125, she said it was too big and hung up. I didn't even get a chance to say that we were willing to trim down. She didn't even ask if I wanted JUST the wedding there, which the website shows the amphitheater holds 525. She had decided that she did not like that I called her out on not returning phone calls. This is the first step in the process, picking the venue, and I am more than thankful that I will not have to deal with this woman throughout the rest of the planning process and during the wedding. It may be an great facility with reasonable prices, but having a rude point of contact is only going to make the stressful process of planning a wedding even worse. The museum needs to see what everyone has been saying about this point of contact and realize that she is causing them to lose business.
I had read other reviews that the coordinator, Brenda Hinton, was difficult to get in touch with, but I went ahead and tried to contact her. I did receive the uniform e-mail response letting me know details about the facility and pricing and that my selected date was unavailable. I responded by e-mail and left voice-mails on both the provided office & cell numbers in hopes of discussing another date as we were pretty flexible. However, no response was received. My sweet father actually drove out to the venue and was able to meet with Brenda - in his own words, "That woman must hate her job". She was very short and seemed perturbed that we would want to spend money on the services offered by the facility. In short, the run down: she reported she "did not have ANY dates available, if there were 10 more weekends in 2015 it would not be enough to schedule weddings, the maximum allotment of 100 people was firm and non-negotiable, and if 100 people were in attendance - any dancing was not feasible. This venue would be a great value and lovely site for a smaller ceremony, but as the reviews said, the coordinator is very difficult in all aspects.
We had the whole Science Center for 8 hours. Brenda, Spencer and The Heard Natural Science Museum staff were very helpful. We were had our Ceremony outside and our reception inside. Everyone truly enjoyed the view from the deck and the hall. We recommend this beautiful venue.
The Heard is a fabulous place to get married! We had both our ceremony and our reception there. The Science Resource Center's deck overlooks the lake and beautiful scenery. Tables and chairs were provided (and set up for us!!) along with an audio system and projection system. There is also a nice sized kitchen and bar space for drinks. Our 50 guests fit comfortably in the Center with plenty of room to spare. Although it doesn't come with much else, the Heard is priced very reasonably. We looked for months and this venue had the best value. You are not limited in terms of catering and other vendors, which was a huge plus!! The only cons were that it was somewhat hard to get in touch with the facilities/events manager and we were told a little too late that we could have set up the day before (that would have helped a lot!). Other than that, the Heard is an excellent space to get married, especially for those who want to go the non-traditional route or want a nature-filled wedding. Oh, and we had our wedding during the day so the kids were able to go visit the museum if they got fidgety (moms loved it!).
