Heather did my engagement photos and they were beautiful. She is very kind and can make a person who is not photogenic look wonderful on camera.

Heather was absolutely incredible. She is not your cookie-cutter photographer, she truly is an artist and took the most incredible photographs. She was a joy to work with, and I felt like she was an old friend the first time I met her. On the say of the wedding, she went way above and beyond with helping out in any way she could, and practically became our wedding coordinator. She is amazing and our big day would not have been the same without her.

Heather was wonderful to work with and we LOVE our photos! We had a short engagement session with Heather in the spring, in addition to the day of shooting on our wedding day in the winter. Heather was easy to work with and so helpful to bounce ideas off of in the months leading up to the wedding. Heather developed a detailed timeline to track which pictures would be taken when to make sure we did not miss anyone. She made everyone so comfortable on the day of the wedding. I am so pleased with my decision to hire Heather and I know I will always treasure these photos.

Heather is amazing - we feel so lucky we had the chance to work with her! The full collection of photos she took are gorgeous and will be an amazing memory of our wedding day. But more than that, throughout the planning process she was well organized and kept us on track up until the end of the reception, she has a great attitude and brought calm to a busy time, and her effective communication throughout made planning a breeze. Heather was absolutely phenomenal every step of the way, and I cannot say enough how highly I recommend her. I was planning my wedding from another state so didn't get to meet her until the day of, which was not an issue at all because she kept in close communication by phone and email, and worked with my parents who were nearby to make sure I didn't have to worry about a thing. Her professionalism and kindness made me completely confident that everything would turn out beautifully, and it did. She reached out early in the process to make sure she knew what would be important to us in the memories she captured. She went in advance to scope out the venue(s) and find THE PERFECT spots for the different portraits we requested, and figured out exactly the right way to create the pictures we wanted but didn’t know how to describe. She is so warm and easy going that even though we didn't meet until the day of, everything flowed comfortably and naturally. Heather was everything I could have asked for in a wedding photographer, plus all of the things I didn't know to ask for! We just received our images, and looking through them, I'm experiencing again the pure joy, happiness, and love of that day. Thank you, Heather!!!

Heather is truly amazing. Her attention to detail, technical expertise, and masterful orchestration are only surpassed by her artistry, compassion, and lovely personality. Even though it was a small, intimate wedding, multiple shoot locations posed a logistical challenge. From initial planning through site previews to the day of the wedding, she covered everything. Over the course of the wedding and photo shoots, Heather smoothly orchestrated bride, groom, guests and even the restaurant staff! Heather, I can’t tell you how happy we are with all of your efforts on our behalf. Your photos are just incredibly beautiful but you did so much more. You thought of things we didn’t know we should think of (bobby pins) and captured images of everything. I loved seeing the photo of the sign at the market, Emily and Sofi (the dog), their rings on the pillow I made. You just didn’t miss anything and did it all with such artistry. We are all so impressed. I will never forget leaving to wash my hands before cutting the cake (assuming nobody else would serve it) and coming back to discover that you'd sent it off with the staff to have them cut it for us. Heather is amazing. She helped make our wedding day run seamlessly even with a torrential downpour and transportation mishaps. It was very important to me to be able to enjoy every minute of the day with family and friends rather than focus solely on taking pictures. She captured incredible shots without taking away from the evening. She gave us a huge portfolio of pictures that we will treasure for years to come. She worked with us to ensure we got all of the specific shots we wanted. Despite all the chaos she never became flustered or stressed which helped ease my stress as well. Let me start off by saying that Heather was truly EVERYTHING you will need in a photographer. Her attention to detail from gaining an idea for what you have planned for your big day to actually jumping in to coordinate with other vendors is beyond words! Heather is amazing!! We had a backyard wedding in the evening, and even with the lighting challenges we were very, very happy with our pictures. She is very professional, creative, and talented. Heather is amazing! My husband and I had planned a rather late notice and very simple summer ceremony, and did not know what to do about a photographer. Neither of us were very into the wedding planning so did not know much about the process at all, but heard of Heather through the grapevine. We knew as soon as we sat down to chat with her that she was perfect for us! She was so flexible and willing to work with what we wanted, which was just shots before, during, and after the ceremony. We got married at the St. Bede Shrine on Richmond Road and were a little wary and confused regarding the rules for photography there, but Heather was on the ball. She was so professional and prepared that our worries vanished instantly. She was also always super quick to respond to any thought or question we had, and was wonderful with helping us outline what photos we would want. My husband and I absolutely loved working with Heather! We used Heather for both our engagement photos and wedding photos. Every single photo that she gave us was beautiful and we were so impressed with her work! We planned our wedding from out of town and Heather was easy to communicate with and was always quick to respond. We found it helpful to put together a few photos we liked of ourselves and explain why, so that Heather understood exactly what we were looking for in our pictures. Also, if you want specific poses, be sure to review that info with your photographer in advance, or ask what poses they suggest -- this will again ensure that your expectations match your photographers and vice versa. You cannot go wrong with Heather -- she is a true professional, incredibly talented, and was an integral part of our wedding day. She captured more moments and details than we even imagined, so we will always have beautiful memories from our wedding day.

Heather was absolutely amazing to work with and is definitely worth the price! She was extremely flexible on the day of the wedding and made sure we had all the posed pictures we wanted with our families. We also took pictures on the beach when it was pretty cold and windy, but Heather and her fellow photographer were able to work around the challenges. During the reception she made sure to take pics of everyone at the tables and during the dancing. We haven't seen her pictures yet but I'm sure they will be amazing.

My daughter, Michelle, and son-in-law, Christian, met with several different photographers. Then, they met with Heather and felt very comfortable with her. I was first drawn to her website not only by the beautiful pictures and her photojournalistic style, but by also reading her "about me" section and getting a sense of who she is as a person and professional. She was VERY responsive. When I asked for references, she sent me email addresses for previous clients. Another photographer just told me to read wedding wire because his clients are busy people! I tossed him out right away! The references she sent took the time to answer my questions. We were SO happy with our choice to use Heather. She captured all the pictures Michelle and Christian had requested and many others as well. It was such a beautiful day and we have beautiful pictures to look at over and over again. I would highly recommend Heather to others!

Heather was wonderful. She met us at the Williamsburg Spa and spent the entire day and evening capturing every moment. We were very glad to have found her.

Heather was absolutely amazing!!!!! I hate getting my picture taken so looking for a photographer was the last thing I really wanted to do, but after meeting with Heather my nerves were gone. She was very sweet and genuine and an awesome person to work with! Before the ceremony, Heather helped us keep to our timeline and acted more like my wedding coordinator! After the mandatory posed pictures at the wedding, I didn't see her again (in a good way!). Heather was always right in the moment, but never in our spotlight! She never asked us to reenact an event or hold poses awkwardly. We have had our engagement and wedding photos done by Heather Hughes. Each experience was excellent! My husband and I were both extremely happy with all of our photos. There were a large number of amazing photos it was difficult to choose which to include within our wedding album. Since we have been pleased with Heather Hughes' work, we are also having her take maternity and baby photos for us! I highly recommend her services.

For me, one of the most important vendors was photography. I love creative pictures, cool effects and a whole lot of them. My groom is not a fan of posing for pictures and prefers natural pix. Heather was such a great find. I saw a picture she did where it was black and white and the bouquet was in color. She was one of the few photographers who would do photos like that for me. She let me go crazy on Pinterest and actually studied my board before hand and had every picture important to me captured on the wedding day! I even forgot some but she had a list. And she really didn't get in the way and wasn't pushy or anything. She blended in the crowd and took natural shots. She is very patient and willing to work with you to capture your wedding. I recommend getting engagement pix with any photographer to make sure you can work well with them. One potential issue could be that she works alone mostly. She had an assistant that day for us who was an intern and did great. If you are concerned about one photographer, she somehow got it all captured and was super organized. Also my other vendors were happy to work with her which is a good sign. I've been so happy with what pictures I've seen so far and she gets a few released to you before your honeymoon if possible so you can see a few good moments. I have nothing negative to say. And I'm really picky about pictures. She was just a pleasure to work with and my groom liked her too ( which means something because he hates pictures). Thanks Heather!!!

We want to thank Heather Hughes soooo much for all of her hard work! My husband and I could not have found a better photographer. Heather was everything I ever dreamed of for someone to work with on my wedding day, and I will always think very highly of her. My husband and I found Heather through the Knot and are so glad that we chose her to do our photographs. From day one, Heather went above and beyond to help us figure out all sorts of things - from what colors to wear for our engagement shoot to how to best take pictures of our complicated families after the ceremony (both our parents are divorced/separated). Heather even brought her husband to help us shoot our wedding, and they were both willing to do anything to capture all the parts of that special day.

Heather is simply the best. My husband's one request for a photographer is "someone cool, who isn't going to get in the way of us having fun." Well, Heather is more than cool... and she was a big contributor to the fun we had @ our wedding! Heather took the time to listen to our goofy requests, such as incorporating friend-on-a-stick (a life-sized head shot on a stick of a friend who couldn't attend) into our portraits, and my husband wanting to use perspective to "pick the nose" of a huge statue during our photoshoot! She captured "us just being us", and all those amazing unplanned moments... which is exactly what we wanted. In addition, the photos are beautiful! The use of pictage.com is ideal for all those relatives who want copies of pictures... they can just order them themselves, without bothering you! If you like the photojournalistic style, you need to pick Heather.

Heather was so easy going and helpful throughout the whole process. I planned my Virginia Beach wedding all the way from Dallas, Texas! After talking with Heather and meeting only once, she had a better idea of what I wanted than I did. Words cannot express how beautiful the pictures from our wedding turned out. Heather was absolutely amazing for our wedding! She met with us several times before the big day and was very accommodating with any requests we had. Heather was so prepared for every meeting by bringing a number of sample albums and we loved looking through the photos she had previously done (especially as some of them were at our venue). She did a great job capturing the "moments" of our special day which was exactly what we were looking for! In addition, after our wedding, we became a bit unresponsive at times when she was trying to design our album as we got back into our day to day life, but she never was upset with us! I am 100% happy with Heather Hughes and would highly recommend her to anyone getting married in the area. I am from CT and got married in Williamsburg and was looking for a photographer who would do more than just take pictures, but rather capture the mood in unique ways. I looked through many portfolios before I found Heather. I was blown away by her creativity and knew she would be perfect. I was right. From the very beginning, Heather was professional and accommodating. Being from out of town I generally had a short time to get things done, and Heather was able to meet with me on short notice sometimes and was very informative helpful. Needless to say, she made me so comfortable with the photography that I did not have to think about it or stress about it, which was very helpful! On the Wedding Day itself, Heather arrived early and was ready to get going, which was perfect. She had already visited the venue and was prepared with some ideas for photos, which was awesome! After the wedding, we got our pictures online so fast, it was amazing!! She even gave a personalized disk with our pictures on it, as a keepsake. Not only did she put our pictures online quickly, she was very proactive in getting our album put together. We loved everything about Heather and would highly recommend her. Her creativity and professionalism set her apart from many other photographers. She seemed to be EVERY WHERE at once and captured so many aspects of the wedding. We now have an awesome way to remember out wedding. We were a little worried about not having a videographer because we wanted to make sure to caputre all the important moments, but glad we didn't hire one because heather was able to capture everything!! We just wish we lived closer to her because we are now pregnant and would love her to take some family pictures!!

Heather was the photographer for our wedding in November 2011. She was with us the entire day, capturing all the important moments. Her style is journalistic, and portraits are wonderful as well. Heather did a excellent job of capturing every little detail and moment of our wedding day that say so much!! There were photos taken that I didn't even know about until we viewed them to find exciting surprises!! She is very good, sneaky and creative (in terms of capturing unique photos) which we love!! When looking back at our pictures I was so happy because it brought all the feelings of our wedding day all over again! I can't say enough about how wonderful Heather was at my 11/27/10 wedding. We had a meeting before the wedding and I knew right away that she was meant for our wedding. Heather meet the bridal party early at the salon to capture those moments and had such terrific energy through the entire evening. I felt like I had known Heather for years- her personality is so genuine that you can't help but love her. Once the wedding started I don't remember ever seeing Heather through the ceremony, reception or send-off. She captured every single moment and was still completely invisible. My guests have commented that they are so happy of this or that moment that Heather got on film, but have no memory of her being near them! If you want a photographer that really wants to make your day special and isn't all in-your-face- Heather is the one to call. She edited the hundreds of photos she shot super fast so that I could have them for the holidays! I was amazing by the quality of the film. She has continuted to work with me long after my wedding to put the albums together. They came out beautifully. I'm so glad I chose Heather for my photographer- one of the best choices of the whole day!

You'll be so happy and grateful that you did! I got married on May 22, 2010 at a B&B on the Chesapeake in Southern Maryland. Heather's photos were included on the B&B website, and when I visited her website, I fell in love with her work. Then my (now) husband and I met Heather in person, and it sealed the deal, especially when my husband gave her a positive review. Photography was one of the most important parts of the wedding for me. Heather is the best--laid back and friendly, and so professional. She made sure to review all details with me ahead of time, especially the day's schedule. She made my groom and I, our wedding party, and all our family feel really at ease as we got did all the portraits before the ceremony. We were laughing most of that time, partly because we were so happy, and also because it's just so easy to get along with Heather. She did a great job with all the family and bridal party (and our) portraits that we wanted, but the best part was seeing candid shots of the moments we had missed throughout the day. The day didn't get by so quickly for me, like some brides say. I remember most moments of the weekend, but there is so much going on and so many people that you love in one place. You are bound to miss some great moments, and Heather did an incredible job of capturing those for us! Seeing Heather's photos was a highlight after returning home from our honeymoon. We laughed out loud and said lots of "ooh's" and "ah's". Her skill as a photojournalist really shone through in capturing everything that happened on that special, happy day. In fact, a good friend of mine couldn't make the wedding, but looked through all 700+ of the photos that Heather took for us, and she said it felt like she had been there! I can't recommend Heather enough. She was prepared leading up to the wedding, fabulous the day of, and has been very helpful since. She did a great job editing the photos, and we just got our proofbook back, and it is a really wonderful keepsake that is part of the package (like a really nice, professional-looking yearbook for your wedding day). Heather was more like a friend and guest at our wedding than the hired photographer, and I can't recommend her more highly!

Heather's style is photo-journalistic. Our pictures are amazing. She captured all the moments we wanted and we hardly knew she was there. She is very un-obtrusive while she works which was exactly what we hoped for. I couldn't be happier with how our pictures turned out, and so much was included!! She was even gracious enough to send me a free replacement disc of all my photos after our new puppy ATE the original a year later!
