Helen Bernhard Bakery is simply the best in the business. They have been doing my birthday cakes since I had my first birthday! I had no doubt who my cake would be made by, if you want the best – go to Helen Bernhard! Our wedding cake was phenomenal, it was so perfectly matched to our wedding theme! Helen Bernhard Bakery even had sparkles for “snow” on our cake. Our flavors were red velvet and lady Baltimore, it was an absolute hit with our guests. There wasn’t a single piece of cake left to take home! They use quality ingredients, and I have always appreciated that they’ll use “dirty” things like sugar and gluten. The artistry in the decoration is worthy of museums! Really, you cannot find any better than Helen Bernhard Bakery.

The wife and I went cake tasting to multiple bakery/wedding cake spots. Helen Bernhard bakery was by far the best in town. Fairly priced and what I appreciated the most was that the cake was not covered in fondant. Made the cake lite and that much more delicious.

Helen Bernhard Bakery designed a cake to match our invitations and nailed it! We had a guest with many wedding attendances under their belt tell us that ours was one of the best cakes they ever had. Everyone was friendly and helpful during the tasting as well which made decisions much easier. Highly recommend!

My fiance and I went here for a cake testing and although the cake was good (besides the red velvet, it tasted horrible) the service was even worse, the lady that had helped us had a bad attitude, she was very unwilling to discuss options when I showed her the cake I wanted (an old school cake) she outright told me that they don't do those. (it's a 2 tier on the bottom with a stand and another tier on top with a single tier on each side on a stand, not rocket science!! Was very disappointing, ended up going somewhere else!

Helen Bernhard did our cake and did a great job! They also give you a $20 credit to use for a free 7 inch cake on your one year anniversary. Would recommend this Bakery!

I have gotten birthday cakes for years from Helen Bernhards so when it came to my wedding cake Helens was for sure my first option. They did an amazing job with our cake. It turned out beautiful and soo yummy.

We went to every bakery in the area and as soon as we sat down with the girls at Helen Bernhard Bakery, we knew we'd found the right place. Every one loves their job and it shows. We got to choose from all their cake flavors, fillings, and frostings while sipping on free coffee and perusing their album of cakes. Once we chose our flavors, we coordinated with the decorator to choose just the right look. They even delivered to downtown Vancouver Washington for free on a Friday evening! They had the cake set up before our people even arrived on site. We had less people show up to our reception than expected but barley had any cake left! So many people asked who did the cake because it was the best they'd ever had!

Giving a 3-star review because there is no doubt in my mind that the products are good. This bakery does have good cakes/pastries & if it weren't for that, I would have easily given 1 star due to customer service. I understand that there is plenty of foot-traffic going through this establishment on the daily basis, which is great for your business, but at least hire staff members who can keep a positive, can-do attitude during those overwhelming & busy times instead of ones who interrupts customers & treating us like a number. I don't complain much, let alone go out of my way to write reviews, but seriously...do they even LISTEN to what we have to say or are they just on auto-pilot? I have experienced this during our appointment for cake tasting as well as over the phone to verify the style of the cake we wanted & was treated the same both times. I rarely was able to finish a sentence, & when I did, all I received was confusion, a (metaphorically) scripted response, & validated that what I had written in my email w/ a picture of the style of cake I wanted wasn't even read. My fiancee & I will still be ordering our wedding cake through HBB because we were genuinely pleased w/ how the cake tasted, & by the looks of their samples in the store & in their portfolio that the cake designer is undoubtedly very talented. As far as the process of future interactions as needed, I'm just going to have to shrug off any expectation that I would be treated like this is a special, personal experience.

They were the first tasting we went to, and no other cake vendor could match up. They had great availability for tasting and were very helpful in suggesting great flavor combos. Their price was pretty standard and our cake was really beautiful. We had given them a piece of ribbon for the color, and they matched it perfectly. They were also apparently really reliable with delivery since the cake just sort of appeared on the wedding day with no thought or worry on my part!

My cake was beautiful! I couldn't believe how pretty it was. We got so many compliments. The flavor was amazing! Everyone wanted to know where we got it. We only had the one little top tier left. They guest ate it all;)

My wedding cake was great! Not only did it look amazing but the taste was incredible. The cake was exactly what I wanted. It was delivered on time and the customer service was great!

Our cake was even more beautiful than I expected. First they were able to take swatches I provided and make a gradient out of colors going up each tier. The frosting also looked perfect and the dotted pattern we requested made the cake look modern and fancy. The cakes were also quite delicious and three tiers (6"/9"/12") served 100 people with ease. This is probably because they make a free/fresh anniversary cake when you come back next year, so you don't have to save the top tier! I loved working with Helen Bernhard, and on top of everything they were the most reasonably priced bakery we found.

My wedding cake design was absolutely perfect. Everything I expected and more.my only concern was the cost of the cake and extra fees included was a bit much.

Helen Bernhard once again came through with a beautiful cake for my daughters wedding. We always seem to go back to them for the wedding cake, I have 6 daughters.

I work across the street from Helen Bernhard, but had never had the pleasure of noshing on any of their delights! Well, I put off most of my wedding planning until the last minute, but I went in the day before, the girl behind the counter was super helpful, and the cake came out absolutely to perfection! And the price was right, for sure.

I originally planned on having my cake with this bakery. I found them to be reasonably priced and the cake was good. I ended up going with a local bakery, but had I not, I would recommend Helen Bernhard's bakery.

We worked our way through a number of bakeries in the Portland area before decided on Helen Bernhard's Bakery. The cake was delicious and they were able to recreate the design work we were set on having. It was beautiful.

A little old fashioned and charmingly so. It was so easy to reserve my cake, make changes, and communicate with these guys. Tasting is free, delivery outside Portland is a charge, of course, but the overall cost was fantastic. I had many compliments on the cake and we loved all three flavors. The butter cream icing is wonderful. No complaints! We even get a mini wedding cake on our 1st anniversary!

We ordered 5 cakes in 4 different flavors and they were all fantastic. White chocolate with coconut, banana with fudge, chocolate chiffon with french cream, and poppyseed with lemon. So, so yummy! They let us do several tastings and delivered and set up the cakes.

I chose Helen Bernhard because I thought they had the best tasting cake around. The cake arrived on time and looked amazing. My only complaint would be that they were a little difficult to work with on the design of the cake. I had a few designs I had wanted before the one I ended up with and they said they weren't able to do them. The designs didn't seem that complicated. Everything came out great in the end though and the cake tasted delicious!

I love helen berhard cake and they also provided us with six dozen maple bars that were baked fresh that day- but our cake did not look the way that i had requested and they did not offer a lot of design options

We have been buying cakes from the Helen Bernhard Bakery for over 20 years. Their cakes are always delicious and our wedding cake was no exception. We highly recommend them!

Loved my cake, they made an even more beautiful version of what I had in mind than I ever could have imagined!! I was super happy with them!

Gave them a picture of what we wanted it to look like, ordered our colors and flavors, and asked for the cake to be delivered at a certain time ... everything went as planned and the cake was perfect and delicious!!!

Helen Bernhard did a wodnerful job. I have to say, at first I was worried that it would not taste good. The cake during the cake tasting was a bit dry, but they were the only company that was in our budget so we went with them. They were also one of the only company that did free delivery. On the wedding day, we were very pleasantly surprised. The cake was beautifully decorated, it was moist, and it was all around delicious. And get this, you get a free cake that matches the top cake tier on your 1-year anniversary. It was an amazing deal, and we were so happy that we ended up going with them.

We went with Helen Bernhard because it was local and reliable. The cake was beautiful. The grooms cake was not as "polished" as we had expected, but everything else was wonderful and, of course, it tasted amazing. My favorite part is that they will make us a free cake on our 1st anniversary! The price was reasonable, and they were so nice to work with.

We ordered our cake here after trying three very reputable cake venders and were very pleased with the outcome. It wasn't totally smooth sailing (appointment mix up, confusion on order) and they didn't provide silver lifts they stated but that is not enough of an oops to lessen my view of them. They make the most delicious cake! Honestly, we didn't really get any wedding cake the day of (but remembered the tastings and have had other baked goods) but everyone has mentioned how delicious and beautiful it was (it was beautiful). They aren't a fancy decor place - they only use butter cream and such but in my opinion the most important thing is the taste not the look (and by fancy decor I mean they don't do the fondant and food network type cakes). You won't be disappointed. They are wonderful and delicious and lovely looking cakes. We thought we would have cake left over (we ordered for 150 and had a little over 100) and didn't have anything but 4 pieces left! I would totally recommend them for all occasions!

I used Helen Bernhard Bakery for my April 2012 wedding. The cake was absolutely beautiful! And super good. People at our wedding were so excited that we got a Helen Bernhard cake...that bakery has a great reputation in Portland. The price is right, too, even for a big wedding. Also, the bakery will bake you a new top tier for your 1 year anniversary so that you don't have to worry about freezing it and then eating year-old cake, and that only costs about $10. The staff are friendly and kind and the cake is delicious! At least go taste-testing at Helen Bernhard. They don't disappoint.

We were recommended to use Helen Bernhard Bakery by our friend because they have used them for a long time. Our cake was 3 layers with two of them being their white cake with raspberry filling and red velvet with cream cheese filling. Everyone loved both of them! So many people came up to me and asked where the cake came from because they loved it. I found a picture of what I wanted the cake to look like online that I brought to them and they replicated it perfectly. Very easy to work with as well!

After trying a small bakeries in the area and not really loving anything we decided to give Helen Bernhard's a try even though we weren't sure we would be able to afford it. Our cake tasting was perfect for us because by the time we got there we had already tried so many cakes that we were beginning to get sick of all the cake, and rather than bring us a huge platter to try we told them the flavors and frosting we were interested in and they brought us a sampling of those which for us was perfect. We went with a light blue cake and piped on snowflakes and it was perfect and just what we had wanted. We got a chocolate cake with mint creme filling, pink champagne with strawberry creme filling, and red velvet with cream cheese filling the cake was moist and delicious and all of our guests loved it!! We also added an order of dinner rolls which they delivered with the cake and they were fresh and yummy!

I have never seen a more beautiful wedding cake than ours. I came in not really having any idea of what I wanted, and the decorator guided me to something perfect. The delivery was right on time and the taste and the cake tasted really good, although it was a bit dry. The price was way better than other places I looked. I'll definitely buy from them again!

THis cake was incredibly Beautiful, the flavors were very fall- Pumpkin with cream cheese filling and apple spice with apple filling and it tasted so delicious! The people were so easy to wrk with, they give you your wedding top cake layer free on your first anniversary and the prices were the best in town. I will definitly continue to come to this bakery for all of my baking and cake needs! I have already sent happy customers there! :)

Great Service and amazing cake.

I had heard from several friends that Helen Bernhard did there cakes and they thought it was a good place to get a wedding cake. We went for the taste test. I thought they were ok, but my groomed liked them. The wedding cake was ok, the poppy seed was a little dry.

The cake was really tasty. The decoration was not something I was looking for but it turned out great. The staff were nice and helpful.

My cake was beautiful and delicious! The ladies and workers at Helen Bernhard are wonderful. I added ribbon to a chocolate buttercream and they helped me with that, also the cake was awesome, everyone loved it. I had 3 layers of chocolate, each with a different filling-yum!

They must freeze their cakes. They were really dry (and we picked them up the day of the event!) Also, we got a big assortment of cookies and they weren't that great either. My mom makes way better macaroons. :)

We got a 3 layer with 3 different layers. Everyone got a piece of each layer I believe. The only downside was we only really got the bite we fed each other, then we were wisked away. But it is OK, they give you another small version on your 1st anniversary. The cake was beautiful, exactly what was promised at the consultation. There was a little concern that the red that was on the page would not be the same red on the cake, but it was a perfect match. They even had someone come drop it off for us when they technically weren't delivering that far out on the weekend of our wedding. Very impressed, as were our guests.

The cake was delicious,they decorated it nicely, but refused to put our cake topper and flowers on. It didn't say anywhere in the contract and no one informed us about this, until I called them (a week before the wedding).

Helen Bernhard's has been making wedding cakes for most of my lifetime and is one of the top picks in the city. They are know for classic, traditional cakes. Their white cake with raspberry filling is to die for.

We made appt after we heard good things about this bakery. The woman who helped us was rude and acted like we were an inconveinence to her. Would not recommend. Although the cake we sampled did taste good

My cake was gorgeous! It looked just like it did in the bakery's sample photo. I was so happy to see it in person and it looked great with the flowers added to it. The cake tasted great also. I gave them a 4 instead of a 5 because they delivered the cake at the wrong time. They came before the ceremony while we were getting pictures, so they were way early! But the delivery guy was nice about it and agreed to come back later at the correct delivery time.

We had a 4 tier cake from Helen Bernhard Bakery. The cake was white with white dots. It was perfect. 2 layers were poppyseed with raspberry filling and two were chocolate with cream cheese filling. Their service was awesome. I had read reviews about bad customer service - don't listen to them. My mom and I went tasting and were offered to try as many cake flavors and icing as we wished. The only reason that I am not giving them 5 stars is because the chocolate tiers were a little dry.

I did a tasting at this place, because of a friend's recommendation. I thought their cake was awful. It was barely even supermarket or diner quality. The woman who was helping me was not very friendly, and she kept having to get up to help people at the counter. I had made an appointment, and wedding cakes cost $500, so I felt like she should have been able to at least sit for a few minutes uninterrupted and focus her attention on the appointment. I would not recommend even wasting your time doing a tasting here.

The cake was delicious. The one thing I was most looking forward to at the wedding was my cake and they absolutely met and exceeded my expectations! When we were doing cake tastings months ago, we all knew immediately that this was the place we wanted to have our cake from. It was moist and fluffy with frosting that didn't taste chemically or plastic like you can get sometimes. I brought in a picture of what I wanted the cake to look like and when I saw it at the reception I was surprised at how exactly I wanted it to look. They obviously spent time to make it perfect for us. We got rave reviews from all of our guests about how delicious the cake was. I can't wait to go back on our 1 year anniversary to get our complimentary top of our cake (so we don't have to eat frozen stale cake!).
