Lee is fantastic! We hired Lee back in 2019 to DJ our wedding. He stuck with us through the pandemic craziness for the last 2.5 years and finally made our wedding dreams come true on June 5, 2021. The custom wedding website he provides is super helpful! My husband and I had fun filling out the wedding questionnaire/playlist and choosing all our music with Lee. The music Lee played from cocktail hour to dinner to the dance party was perfect! He even helped us out with a Star Wars themed La Hora Loca. He also provided amazing lighting for our reception. It was the party of our dreams!

Hiring the DJ was not my task, but as mother of the bride, I was thrilled with Lee and his crew from Hey Mister DJ. During the planning process, he asked the bride and groom for their play list and their “do not play” list, and seamlessly wove their selections into the evening music, reading the crowd like only an experienced DJ can, keeping the dance floor occupied all night. He handled introductions and announcements with ease, no “cheese,” and kept his talking to a minimum. Quail Ranch in Simi Valley is an expansive outdoor venue, and he and his crew set up the sound system for each area - ceremony, cocktail hour, and then reception - perfectly and unobtrusively, including accommodating a live keyboardist for the ceremony. The entire venue, the whole day, had continuous, lovely music as guests moved about. I promise you will be happy and have no worries if you hire Hey Mister DJ!

Anyone who knows me knows that music is one of the most important things in my life. That’s probably why as soon as my husband proposed, one of the very first things I did was start researching DJ’s. And boy, did I RESEARCH! I stumbled joint Hey Mr. DJ and was amused that that was the title of one of the songs by my favorite band. That didn’t matter though because Lee seriously blew the competition out of the water. It wasn’t just his obvious talent or skill, but when he agreed to meet with me and my husband, we felt so at ease with him, as if we were meeting an old friend for coffee. I seriously loved how he didn’t try to push anything on us. He even gave us a book on finding the right DJ to help us make our decision, even if that decision meant hiring someone else (spoiler alert: it didn’t). Putting together the playlist was a breeze. The actual day of our wedding, so many things went wrong. I’m usually the picture of calm and collected, but I was a bundle of stress and nerves. The second the music started though? It was like all of that stress instantly melted away. Lee did a PHENOMENAL job as our DJ and MC. I spent a majority of the night on the dance floor because he really listened to what we/the crowd wanted. Oh and as an added bonus, he did our lighting, too! We didn’t even talk much about it because it was a last-minute addition, but he nailed what we were looking for. Hiring Lee was definitely one of the best decisions we made for our wedding!

Lee is one of the best DJ's I've ever hired for events I've thrown. My husband and I met with him before our wedding. We didn't make an immediate decision to hire him, but he was one of the front-runners. He was very responsive and transparent in all correspondence, which was one of the reasons we ended up hiring him. He was on time for our wedding and worked very well with other vendors. His timing and coordination during the wedding ceremony and reception was so smooth and left us nothing to worry about. He had a great music selection that get everyone on the dance floor. the owner Lee Dyson is beyond wonderful. he is so helpful and gets back to you ASAP. He actually personally went out of his way to help me and my husband when our first wedding venue closed suddenly and was there to lend a helping hand. In the end we had a perfect wedding. I am so grateful that we worked with Hey Mister DJ. I interviewed ~ 3 different DJ services and instantly clicked with Lee! He was willing to work with us on our budget as well as our specific venue needs (i.e. sound equipment outside for the ceremony, uplighting, etc.). We requested Hey Mister DJ to play our wedding at the Hilton DoubleTree in downtown LA. Their music selection was great and they were flexible and quick to make suggestions and changes through the night. Most of our guests are fairly reserved but they were great at reading the room and able to get people on the dance floor all night long. Not to mention their lighting setup made the room look great and really set the right mood for the evening. We had a great time and would definitely recommend them.

DJ Jimmy was our assigned DJ but let's start with DJ Lee!! Lee was quick to contact us; quick to get on the phone to get to know us; and quick to put together a welcome video for us so we can put a face to a name. We discussed the DJ options and Lee was confident in his team and immediately knew that DJ Jimmy would serve us best due to his singing ability - and how amazing was he! We asked DJ Jimmy to sing during dinner for a bit and people couldn't believe it was him (think Michael Bubblé / Frank Sinatra). Lastly, he was flexible when we had other entertainers/drummers and working with them to setup the music and timing all perfectly. Highly recommend and amazing people to work with!

I loved working with Lee and would give him 10 stars if I could. We booked Hey Mister DJ for our small wedding (40 guests) and reception. He was really great about communication. Listening to our ideas and offering suggestions when we were stuck. Great response time to emails and calls. On the big day he efortlessly took us from ceremony, to cocktail hour, to our late night dance party. As I said, we were a small group and Lee really helped us keep the night running smooth as far as the timeline and keeping events on track. He was a really professional but also an all-around good guy. Very positive experience.

Lee is the man! He thinks of everything so that at the wedding you are fully prepared. Everything from pronunciations & emphasis of people's names to having a very clear timeline (that is easy to set up with him) makes for a stress free wedding and a night of fun! During the wedding, Lee would always check in with us and make sure that we are ready to move into the speeches or move into the dances or move into the cake cutting, etc. This allowed us to be in control instead of having a rogue DJ that had their own schedule. This was super professional and courteous. He played all the specialty songs that we wanted, and he asked us for a general ideas list of the other type of music that we wanted. Be sure to be very clear about what is a must play vs. the general ideas list. We made sure that the last 3 songs were must play, and he was sure to play them. Throughout the event, Lee went around and made sure that the speakers were the right level and that everything was working and not too quiet or too loud. During the ceremony, he mic'd the quartet and mic'd the officiant. Providing a mic for the quartet is a MUST! This was his idea, and it was so much better having them amplified. Both our venue loved him and the wedding planner loved him as well. He is a genius at reading the crowd and choosing the PERFECT next song. He kept everyone dancing and singing the entire night.

Lee was very knowledgeable, thorough and easy to contact in the months leading up to our wedding. We chose DJ John "Hydo" to DJ our reception, who we could tell had plenty of experience and brought some of his own small touches to create a very memorable reception for us and all of our guests. He was professional and very accommodating to customize our reception to make it exactly the way we wanted it and create the atmosphere we were aiming for, and kept the party going all night. All of the extras such as photo booth, dance floor lighting, and uplighting along the perimeter of our reception venue was great and had all of our guests in awe. We were very satisfied with Hey Mister DJ.

I knew I wanted to work with Lee right from the start, and he really blew us away with his video proposal. He was familiar with our venue and that helped seal the deal. We wanted someone with experience who understood what we were looking for with an eclectic crowd of kids that grew up in the nineties and family who loves Latin music. Lee was able to keep the crowd dancing all night (including myself, who had a broken ankle). He was never cheesy and was a great MC. To top things off he created an extremely sweet video that was completely unexpected and one of my favorite things captured during that day. Best wedding DJ of all time!!

DJ Mark was great at our backyard b-day party. He read the room really well and kept the crowd dancing the whole night. Best fun we've had at a party in a long time. Like the other reviewers said, we gave him a short list of songs and he went from there. Really read the room well, a lot of his choices worked better than ours.

I discovered Hey Mister DJ at my wedding venue's tasting night, and I am so glad they were there! Lee the owner was incredibly helpful, and perfectly understood my music genre concerns....I had a great feeling that they would be able to totally nail the vibe my husband and I were hoping for. Our DJ for the wedding wound up being Mark....he was very thorough in his emails before the event, and executed our music wish lists perfectly. I remember smiling during dinner when I heard certain songs come through, and having a blast along with the rest of our guests when it came time for dancing. This review is long overdue, but I hope I can help anyone and everyone planning a wedding in 2018 and beyond! Lee DJ-ed for my wedding at Descanso Gardens, in the "hard to DJ-at" Boddy House. From personal experience, my husband and I were nothing but impressed by his professionalism. He is honestly a professional businessman. If you want Lee to DJ your wedding, call, text, email....book him NOW. Yes, he is AMAZING and even made my husband and I a playlist after the wedding because he knows how much I love music!! Lee was above and beyond anything I could have hoped for when looking for a wedding DJ. On a personal level, he was a joy to work with during the whole process. From the first sit down where he helped us begin putting together a playlist to the actual wedding day where he had a solution for pretty much any unplanned obstacle that presented itself, I felt at ease knowing Lee had it handled. On a professional level, His knowledge of Sound Equipment and potential issues caused by Venue Limitations is extensive. He was asking questions about things I never would have considered! I can't stress enough the level of ease I felt knowing Lee had things handled. If we wanted a song that wasn't in Lee's library, he added it. If we were having trouble figuring out songs to cut cake to, he had a solution. Whenever possible he communicated directly with our Wedding Planners which allowed us to focus energy on other aspects of the wedding. The positive energy and professionalism Lee brought to the wedding planning experience was top notch. I would 100% recommend him for any event. Thank you Lee!

I believe the key to any good party is bumping music. Our DJ, DJ lee, is amazing at this. We gave him a list of music we liked, just a few songs, and man he made our wedding the wedding to beat for both of our families. For dinner he played a very nice light music that was not too loud and then seamlessly transitioned into dance music for everyone to get up and dance to. The music was exactly what we had asked for and he even played songs that we forgot and then remembered that we loved when he played them. The music was so good we had to tell people to leave because the end of our event was coming up soon. Everyone still wanted to dance. If anyone ever asked me for someone to play music at their event he will be the first person I recommend. He’s easy to talk to and is a very easy-going guy making Setting up meetings with him very easy and enjoyable. So officially to all of you who are looking for someone to DJ your wedding pic DJ Lee!

My husband and I used Hey Mister DJ for our December wedding at Carondelet House. Lee is a really nice guy and I think that he did a great job. He played everything we asked and was easy to communicate with. He also made some great recommendations about lighting. When we added an hour of bar time to our timeline he didn't charge any extra. Probably the only vendor that ever said that to me all year! The only negative was that we didn't want to do a first dance bc we didn't want to have a weddingy type wedding. We had explained the no first dance thing from the start. More than once. We sort of got talked into it after dinner and then awkwardly stood around waiting to do it while people stared at us and then danced to a song we don't remember. Probably mostly our fault for just not saying NO but we felt a really pressured. I guess the venue wanted to clear the dining room and move people into the other room or something. We really didn't care where people went and had made arrangements with the venue to let people stay in the dining room. We had tried to set up a lounge type atmosphere with nooks and different patios anyway. I do feel like we had strongly communicated that the reception would be casual and that we didn't want to do a first dance so it was a little bit awkward that it came up the night of. Not a huge deal.

Lee from Hey Mr. DJ was absolutely outstanding from start to finish. He came highly recommended to us by a friend who is in the entertainment industry and boy did he crush it. We had multiple meetings / interactions before the wedding which were very helpful in planning everything out. He went above and beyond and even spliced together two songs for a custom first dance. Their website is incredibly easy to use and allows you to create a custom music list. Still, most impressive was his skills on the big day. He listened to our preferences and took this further to create an incredible set of music that kept everyone on the dance floor from start to finish. Couldn't have been a more fun wedding! I don't generally write reviews, but DJ Chris was so great on our wedding day, I feel like I have to. There was a white-knuckled moment when we had our first DJ drop out on us late in the game but DJ Chris swung in and saved the day. From the first meeting, we could tell we were in the hands of a true professional, not to mention someone who really enjoys his work. On the day of the wedding, his cues and playlists were absolutely seamless, and he was perfect on the microphone – that is, he kept the party moving and lively without being cheesy at all. I saw friends out there dancing who NEVER dance. That tells you something. I recommend DJ Chris to anyone with no hesitation at all.

Lee was great to work with. He worked with us to create a playlist that fit our crowd. He created a good vibe at the wedding so our guests wanted to dance the whole time. He helped us with timing questions and definitely has a lot of knowledge about weddings. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a DJ.

Our families have diverse musical taste. Hip Hop, Rock, Funk, Jazz, Country, you name it. We were looking for an affordable DJ for our wedding reception that was not cheesy, and could accommodate our diverse taste. Mark Reitman of Hey Mister DJ met all of our needs. During the planning process, we provided Mark with a list of about 200 songs to give him a feel for what kinda music we were looking to play including specific songs such as first dance, cake cutting, grand re-entrance, etc.. We gave him one requirement: keep everyone dancing and having a good time. Mark by far nailed it. A solid 75% of our guests were on the dance floor moving all night for almost 5 hrs straight (breaks for dinner, cake cutting, etc). Alcohol may have been a factor for our guests ;)

DJ Lee was awesome! We wanted a fun, happy atmosphere at our wedding with our guests dancing the whole night. He did not disappoint! Our guests were on the dance floor during the whole ceremony and many remarked how great our playlist was -- that was all Lee! He was also super nice and professional. A super great find! Lee is a pro and a breeze to work with. After we first met him, we immediately felt confident in his expertise and ability to work a crowd. I was very particular with not wanting a stereotypical "cheesy wedding DJ" and Lee is totally cool, no cheese at all. Lee did a great job of pulling songs from our playlist while adding in some of his own (great) choices when he felt like it was needed. So many of our guests commented on how much they loved the music at our wedding! Also, the lighting package we ended up renting through Lee worked out great. It really brought an otherwise boring room to life. There were many things I was stressed about leading up to the big day, but the DJ was not one of them - I had full confidence in Lee and he really did a wonderful job.

Of all the details surrounding the wedding, we were most concerned about sound quality, particularly since we were getting married in an English Garden, which is a complicated space. From our first conversation, Lee stood apart from the rest with his keen understanding of all the technical aspects of sound and lighting along with his great instincts for the natural flow of a timeline. He also stood apart, because I could tell he actually cares about even small details. His solid advice in our first meeting helped us avert a number of problems in advance. Lee ran sound for live and recorded music during the ceremony, then seamlessly guided the reception with professionalism, warmth and positive energy. He ultimately made our dream wedding come true not unlike the way super glue holds together broken pieces of a beloved treasure--effectively and invisibly. Lee Dyson of Hey Mister DJ is the BEST! He immediately understood us and our style and we could not have been happier with how everything turned out! Lee from Hey Mister DJ was so great. He truly went above and beyond for me and made the night rock, literally and figuratively! He helped me time the first dance, father/daughter and mother/son exactly as I wanted, and I loved their website playlist functionality. Our wedding DJ was Jason aka DJ Cave. Lee's protocol at Hey Mr. DJ is that clients send a "Must Play," "Try to Play," and "Do Not Play" list - Jason played all our favorites, incorporated songs we hadn't though of, and kept the dance floor moving all night long! My husband and I stayed on the dance floor all night, which is pretty atypical for a the bride and groom. Jason understood our tastes and catered to them, while also playing crowd favorites that kept others on the dance floor. The next day my body was totally sore from all the dancing! Both Jason and Lee were also pleasure to work with - they are cool and laid-back while also be assertive and organized. Highly recommended!

Lee is a fantastic DJ. If you are looking for a low key super NOT cheesy DJ he is your man. He really understood the vibe we wanted for our wedding. Didn't go overboard on the emcee'ing and contributed greatly to the pace and mood of the reception. When it came time to dance the music was spot-on. He can really read the room.. He respected what kind of tunes we wanted and even turned down a bribe from my husband's cousin to play Def Leppard. :) HA!!! Thanks for that one, Lee.

From the moment we met DJ Lee we felt comfortable with him and confident he would be amazing at our wedding! DJ Lee was great at playing songs from our list as well as paying attention to the vibe of the crowd and picking songs on his own that would best fit! All of our guests said that our DJ played the best mix! Not only was he good with music but he also is very flexible, we asked him at the end of the night to extend an hour and he did with no issues! Lee is truly the best!! He was DJ for our with my sister double wedding at the Rancho Chiquita in August 2015 in Malibu and having him as our DJ was the best decision ever! From our initial meeting with him, he was down to earth, friendly, and very professional. We also rented a projector for the surprise video for the groom for a very reasonable price. Aside from sending him a list of song requests prior to the wedding, we told him that its ok to play songs that he think will feel right at the moment and I am so glad we did! Lee DJ'd at our wedding at the Natural History Museum and hiring him was one of the best things we could've done. Hey Mister DJ was absolutely fantastic. They helped make our wedding so fun! It was a pleasure working with DJ Chris. He made everything feel so seamless and easy! Even with the surprise rain (rain in Topanga in July????), he made it work! He really went the extra mile to make sure we were able to have our ceremony and cocktail hour moved inside. Chris with Hey Mr. DJ was great! He was our DJ for our recent October wedding and we couldn't have asked for a better DJ. We gave him an idea of the types of music we liked and wanted to hear and he was spot on. He also did a great job reading our crowd and always seemed to play the perfect song at the right time to keep everyone energized.

Lee was great! The music was perfect and exactly what we were looking for. We were very pleased with Lee from Hey Mister DJ for our wedding! He was easy to work with prior to the event and was very informative...he knows his stuff! My wedding was in March 2014 and planned very fast. DJ Mark from Hey Mister DJ worked my wedding and did an amazing job! He was very patient as I still didn't have a song list the week of the wedding, and he was great about putting together the music last minute and everything flowed perfectly that day. The music was fantastic and Mark was wonderful to work with (as was Lee who initially set everything in motion). The cost was very reasonable as I shopped around and compared with other vendors. My company has also used Hey Mister DJ for quite a few of our big events and they are very reliable and wonderful to work with. Call them!

Lee at Hey Mr. DJ was so fantastic at our wedding! He's extremely friendly and personable when you meet him, and so helpful with working through your wants and needs for the big day. We worked on a small list of must play/don't play/optional songs and he made sure to take everything we wanted into consideration, and then learned from our tastes to craft the perfect mix for us. He's flexible on your day and can easily roll with any changes or last minute needs, and so many of our guests came up to me to compliment me on the music - coming from a huge family that goes to a ton of weddings and all love to dance (until they practically kick us out) that's a big compliment! Lee was able to handle both the ceremony and receptipn which made things a million times less complicated since we didn't have to coordinate musicions, and we could customize everything to a T. He's is professional and just a really nice guy to put you at ease on your wedding day. Can't recommend him enough!

DJ Richard was a great pick for our wedding ceremony, reception and cocktail hour. He asked for some songs we liked and was able to fill in the blanks with great selections that fit to the environment we wanted to create for our guests!

We hired Lee Dyson (of Hey Mister DJ) for our ceremony, cocktail hour, & reception, based in part upon his strong prior reviews. I sent him a lot of email questions in preparation (as I'm pretty detail-oriented), but he patiently responded and provided guidance. During the preparation, his experience and calm personality helped reassure us that he would handle the event well -- which allowed us to focus on other things. He was interested in shaping the event to our liking and requested our input; but he also helped to provide guidance when some of our song selections didn't fit well with each other or otherwise were inappropriate. On the day of the event, he got all of the details right (songs, timing, etc.). We had a Sunday-night wedding with a slightly older crowd, plus a number of children. He kept the guests dancing much longer than I would've expected. Excellent job. I would highly recommend.

Lee is the best wedding DJ I have ever heard at a wedding. We were lucky enough to meet him at a friend's wedding and booked him for our late May wedding. Throughout my planning he was in constant contact and had knowledge about the venue and our selections on music. At the wedding he was on time, helpful, and flexible to the schedule changing, due to our best man being held up at work (a fireman). He also was great in mixing in all types of music and had almost all the guests dancing throughout the night, from the 2 year olds to the 80 year olds. Lee was also accommodating to our song choices, as some of the songs were far too long and needed to be edited down, he was kind and supportive in helping us figure this out. Friends and Family are raving to us about how great the selection was. He was also fantastic in playing the dj role: no cheesy games, or unnecessary interruptions. I highly recommend Lee to anyone.

My wife and I were recently married in Malibu. Lee was hired to be our DJ for after dinner, but what we got was so much more. He very diligently broke down the entire day via time and section. Made sure there was proper music at all the appropriate sections of the evening (cocktail hour, ceremony, dinner) as well as the after dinner section. Lee gave us a personalized experience and even did a site visit with his video camera. Very well prepped and extremely easy to work with. He advised us on production and really helped to make the day effortless. We turned over control of the after dinner music selection to him and the vibe was perfect. Just plain and simple advice: Hire this guy - he understands how to be professional and work with any scenario.

We heard about HeyMisterDJ through a recommendation, and met with Lee. We both liked that he was very professional, well informed, and asked all the right questions. During the planning process, he was easy to work with and gave us a clear timeline and song priority list as a guide. He was very open to playing exactly what we wanted, and offered ideas/options in areas of the ceremony we were unsure of. He was also very accommodating to last minute provisions and changes and came up. On the wedding day, he was terrific with guests. Very personable and friendly. But most importantly, he was organized and had great attention to detail. I can't stress this aspect enough. From my perspective, the best service received is when you enjoy everything, and forget the service is even there; where everything just flows seamlessly. At no point throughout the day, did we ever have to worry anything with him; he simply took care of his responsibilities confidently. And when anything did need addressing (guest questions, vibe of music, etc) he came to me. I never had to seek him out. Again, very professional and asked all the right questions! It should also be noted that HeyMisterDJ's rates are very reasonable. I very much doubt you'd get better service for their prices, and I'd happily recommend Lee (and HeyMisterDJ) to anyone!

DJ Lee of "Hey Mister DJ" did such an AMAZING job on our wedding day! He by far exceeded our expectations and was very affordable. We had a very unique theme last minute for our wedding. Since our wedding was the same night as the oscars, we incorporated an oscar theme. I fell in love with a movie soundtrack that I wanted to use for the entire processional and was told by our coordinator that it wouldn't work because it was too short, but Lee found a way to loop the song and inserted the grand entrance part of the song (that I loved most) for my entrance seamlessly. We also introduced our wedding party oscar style. Everyone was introduced with an award. For example, "and for best actor in a supporting role, best man: Jason....!" And Lee played a movie soundtrack as each person collected their award. Lee was so great at meeting with us to make it all work and even added to it by playing movie soundtracks throughout dinner --GENIUS!! He kept the party going after dinner too, there were always people dancing and people kept telling me how it was the best wedding that they had ever been too. I was told before the wedding that I should expect at least one thing to go wrong--that could not have been further from the truth. My wedding was beyond perfect!! I was blown away and it truly was the best night of my life.

Richard was spectacular at our wedding!! We've been getting compliments about him ever since our wedding, which was now almost three months ago. His playlist was spot-on for our audience. The dance floor was packed from the second guests were welcomed to the floor and stayed packed all night. It was the most consistently full dance floor we've ever seen at a wedding and our guests agree! He was able to cleverly mix all of our "must plays" into the rest of his playlist, playing all of the latest dance music without any overplayed or cheesy songs and catering perfectly to everyone from our friends/bridal party in their mid-20s to our grandma in her mid-80s. The sound was perfect for the space too. And he did an excellent job as the MC, running the night and keeping us on schedule without being pushy, which was a huge relief for us since we didn't have a planner. It was a pleasure to have him as our DJ. Everyone had an absolute blast! We couldn't be happier with Richard's performance.

DJ Lee is the "DJ without the cheese!!" Very efficient and thorough. I'm very meticulous, he performed perfectly. He delivered everything on point, no hassle, no complaint, and extremely professional. You will not be disappointed. I was hesitant at first to use a DJ and not a band, I'm glad I chose Lee.
