We are not from the Nashville area and had another venue booked that cancelled on us 3 weeks before our wedding - we were able to quick rebook with Traveller's Rest and it was perf...
ect and even better than our original venue! The outdoor ceremony was beautiful, we were able to do our cocktail hour in the gardens, and the venue was perfect for our 130 person wedding. We worked with Ashley who was PHENOMENAL - so knowledgeable, accommodating, and worked so hard to make sure everything was in place and went smoothly. I would absolutely recommend this place!
We are not from Nashville so when we picked this venue it was via video chat with Mary. She was able to show us around and sell us the venue and her services without even seeing it...
in person and we made the right call by doing that. The venue is beautiful and there are so many different spaces to have your ceremony and cocktail hour. Mary was AMAZING and extremely helpful during the entire process. Since we were traveling from out of state for the wedding she helped us decide everything, suggested other vendors, and made sure our day went off without any problems. My family even forgot some of the decorations and she was able to subelement them so no one noticed at all something was missing. I would recommend this venue and Mary's services to anyone. She really made our day stress free and we were able to completely enjoy ourselves without worrying about anything going wrong.
Cannot say enough good things about this venue. The grounds are beautiful and the barn was a perfect setting for our reception. We got married under the trees, our guests loved the...
charm of the entire venue. Finally, Mary Jo was awesome as our planner. She made our wedding perfect and took care of the details. Jordan her assistant was wonderful as well. We highly recommend this venue.
Our rehearsal dinner and wedding reception at Travellers Rest were both lovely. We enjoyed the historic setting and beautiful spots for photos.
Although we ended up not selecting the Historic Travellers Rest Plantation as our venue, I felt I needed to leave a review from my experience with June up to our decision. June wa...
s so attentive during my search and even followed up months later when she had a request for our date to make sure she did not double book. The property is absolutely beautiful day with many many different options for your ceremony. Definitely a place to see!
We worked mostly with June at Traveller'a Rest, and she was WONDERFUL! I genuinely felt like she had our best interest at heart at all times and was always looking out to make sur...
e everything ran smoothly on our wedding day.
Traveller's Rest is a beautiful venue, and we had the best time celebrating our marriage there!
I LOVED my Traveller's Rest wedding! It's absolutely beautiful!
It ended up raining on my wedding day - we did not rent a tent and the ceremony was supposed to be outside. Luckily...
, we were able to have our ceremony on the historic porch!
My guests absolutely loved the house tour!
The barn is air conditioned, which was important in September!
The valets were AMAZING - one of them even stayed late to help my parents clean up!
Only thing I'd warn you about is June- the wedding contact. She's not terrible, and she was fine on our wedding day ... she's just a bit of a nuisance. She isn't very organized (failed to send receipts after promising to do so), hard to get in touch with (always "our of the office" or experiencing "technical difficulties"), and pretty impossible if she disagrees with your plans (i.e. the rehearsal). I booked my wedding more than a year in advance and asked to schedule my rehearsal about a year out. My bridal party was coming from out of town so I wanted to get this finalized so they could book flights. In any event, there was a wedding the day the contract said we could rehearse (it's a contract, though). I assured June that we'd NEVER EVER dream of getting in someone else's way and would gladly even rehearse closer to the parking lot, and she was still flakey about this. Ultimately, I had my coordinator handle it, and it was all fine.
I wouldn't let June stop you if you like the venue, just keep in mind you have to be direct and firm with her.
My aunts and grandmother hosted my bridal luncheon on the porch at Travellers Rest. I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful, relaxing, enjoyable celebration! The grounds and hou...
se were stunning, and the service was unparalleled. June Swartz and her team were kind, thorough and professional throughout the planning and execution process. I can't thank them enough for adding such a wonderful experience to my wedding weekend! I will absolutely recommend TR to my friends and colleagues.
I am a firm believer that reviews are only helpful if they detail why the rating is what it is. Here is why I gave it a two star:
I went with 2 instead of 1 because of how beautif...
ul the venue is however the reason it did not get 5 stars is because of the wedding coordinator. She is an absolute disaster. For starters, my contract was lost. She had to ask ME to send a copy of the contract that we signed for thousands of dollars. Then when I decided the send it over, she argued with me that the contract must have been a mistake because there were items in the contract (i.e. complimentary valet) that were not normally in contracts. After FINALLY wading through all of that with her and having to point out that a contract is a legal document and breaking it could have legal implications, we got our way.
THEN the nightmare began. About a month before the wedding the coordinator (June) called me telling me that there was a wedding the day after mine and that the couple wanted there rehearsal to be the day of our wedding. I, of course, said that would not be possible. We had pictures all day, the vendors had to set up, etc. Long story short she told me too bad, she was allowing them to do it. When I told my wedding planner, videographer, and photographer they could not believe it. They had seen nothing like it before. They were also frustrated because it would cause them to have to deal with other people in their way. Fast forward to wedding day and my best man went to talk to this other couple's coordinator. The coordinator nor the couple had any clue that there would be a wedding on this day. Despite June telling me multiple times she had discussed this with them, they had absolutely no knowledge. She lied to my face. She never informed this other couple. Unprofessional and unethical to both parties.
It's not over yet. My wife and I left the venue for our hotel around 10:30 that night. At 11:30, literally while we are in bed ready to go to sleep for our 7AM flight the next morning, June has the audacity to text me (rather than communicate through our wedding planner) and complain that, while cleaning up, the dumpster was filled to the brim, allowing no space for the next wedding. I told her that was not my problem. The contract did not specify what percentage of the dumpster that we were allowed to use. We followed every rule. During my honeymoon she texts me to tell me she would give us our deposit back (as if she was doing me a favor) but is changing the dumpster policy.
Overall, she is one of the most unprofessional professionals I have ever seen. She is unorganized, rude, and quite frankly a liar. Travellers Rest is a stunningly beautiful venue but unfortunately it might not be worth it if you have to deal with their wedding coordinator for 9-15 months. Pay the extra $1000 and go to a similar venue with more personable coordinators.
Beautiful venue! Wonderful staff! Various outdoor options for ceremony. Reception barn is the perfect contingency plan for rain too! Affordable and worth every penny! Made our ...
wedding day perfect! Thank you Travellers Rest!
Travellers Rest was absolutely beautiful! The grounds and barn were PERFECT for our wedding! However, the only issue we had was with the staff. It was difficult to get in contact w...
ith the wedding coordinator in a timely manner. The other draw back was that we were unable to set anything up in the barn for the reception the night before despite there being NO event that night. It was very stressful for my family and friends to decorate the day of.
Overall, I was pleased. The location made for a very charming Southern Wedding. The barn where we held the reception is a blank slate, but you can really do so much to make it what...
you want, and it turned out to be so beautiful!
I had some difficulty working with the event coordinator unfortunately. It was very difficult to get responses, and they have so many silly rules in place (i.e. guests are not allowed to park in the parking lot??). However, toward the end of my planning they hired a new event manager, named Cryssa, and she was amazing! It really redeemed the experience for me!
The only other negative is that there are trains coming through right next to the venue. However, if you have your wedding on the opposite side of the house, it shouldn't be much of an issue.
I loved everything about our venue!! The only thing I can complain about is that I was told there would be a representative there at all times and there wasn't which really got str...
essful when I had a question about something. And...no one bothered to inform us they scheduled a wedding rehearsal just a few hours before our ceremony and that wedding party rearranged our chairs and made us go back and do more work. That could have been avoided had there been a TR employee around like we were told.
We would go there again for our wedding! The wedding was outdoors near the garden. Great tour of the house for our guests. Terrific barn for the reception with a good dance floo...
r. only problem was the bridal dressing room didn't have a restroom, had to use the public one on the barn. Otherwise it was great! Got our deposit back, too.
Travellers Rest is great! I got married outside on the grounds in front of the house and had my reception in the barn. They supply tables and chairs for inside the barn and the g...
