Ryan and his band were excellent and truely made our big day special. We did more of a rock and roll event and his band was able to accommodate perfectly. Many our guests mentioned to us it was the best wedding band they have ever seen. For our package we had guitar, bass, keys, drums, saxophone and 3 vocalists who were all excellent and clearly were passionate about the performance. Ryan especially is a guitar virtuoso with a huge range of styles. They exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend.

He walked through every detail with us ahead of time, asked thoughtful questions, and made sure all of our preferences and special requests were understood.
The music throughout the entire event was spot-on. The acoustic cocktail hour set created such a great atmosphere. The dance floor was packed all night long. Hit Play played a huge role in making our wedding unforgettable, and our guests are still talking about them. Truly a great experience!!

Based in southeastern Massachusetts and formed in 2015 by some the area's most accomplished musicians, Hit Play has quickly earned a solid reputation as one of the hottest live wedding and event party bands in New England. The band’s leader, guitarist and singer, Ryan McHugh is well known in the Boston area for his ability to entertain a room by utilizing his 22 years of experience working professionally in the live music industry. Drawing on this experience, Hit Play performs in top club venues from Boston to Newport and at top wedding venues all over New England. The band is well known for their incredibly versatile repertoire - consisting of anything from rock, pop, funk, country, alternative and hip-hop to name a few. Despite the incredibly diverse styles, the songs in the dance set all share one common thread: high energy, tried and true bangers that always keep the dance floor moving. Lynn, the lead female vocalist is multilingual so in addition to singing all the hits in English she can also sing beautifully in Spanish, Hebrew and French to name a few!! Adding Andy's (drummer) super high vocal range to the mix allows even a small 4 or 5 piece band to be able to sing almost every style and genre imaginable with multipart vocal harmonies to boot!

He did a wonderful job with all aspects of the wedding - ceremony music, cocktail hour set list, easy listening music during dinner, and MCing all speeches/introductions. We had a few “must play” songs that the band did an awesome job with. We made a scheduling change regarding speeches just a few days before the wedding and Ryan was responsive and helpful in making sure all that went perfectly! I also love that there are so many different options to fit different budgets. If you are looking for a wedding band, Hit Play is the way to go!

happen last minute! He took the time to review the form I filled out prior to the wedding to make sure he understood all the details and special requests we had for our wedding! Everything went off with out a hitch! The live acoustic music at our cocktail hour really added a classy feel to it which we loved! The band played classic crooner music during dinner which was exactly what we wanted. The DJ spun some amazing mixes playing off the crowd’s energy which was amazing. What stood out the most was how unbelievably flexible the team was. We had planned for a string quartet to play our ceremony outdoors, but due to on-and-off rain, they couldn’t perform outside. Without missing a beat, Ryan quickly stepped in, set up a speaker, and made sure the ceremony music we'd carefully chosen was ready to go. His quick thinking and helpfulness was so appreciated.

We wanted a real band rather than a traditional wedding band. Musicians who loved to play together, and do so nightly at bars in the city, not ones meeting for the first time that night. And we can’t overstate how many people noticed the difference and thanked us for that. To those guests on the wedding circuit, Hit Play’s energy and talent was fresh and undeniable.
But they weren’t just great musicians. Ryan was professional and easy to work with from the very first call through the night of the wedding. All to say, we can’t recommend Hit Play more heartily.

The acoustic music during the ceremony was spot on-- Ryan even learned a song that I requested for the walk down the aisle.
As for the reception, the band did an awesome job! My fiance and I were shocked by their extensive song list. We met with Ryan before the big day and discussed our music style. He really nailed the vibe that we were going for to create the perfect atmosphere.

He was flexible with his timing to ensure that we had extra dancing time, and even DJed for some time after the band was done. He was incredibly accommodating to us, letting my husband perform his own song, and even letting him join the band for a song. The band played a great variety of music and kept everyone engaged. Through our many emails/texts/meetings, we chatted about what I thought my guests would want to hear and not want to hear. I picked out a few request songs, but other than that I did not give him a song list, nor did I feel the need to. And DAMN did he deliver. My guests ALL NIGHT were asking me if my husband and I hand picked the song list because it was so true to us as a couple while also resonating with our family and friends. I happily told them NOPE, no set list was provided - Ryan just knows his stuff, how to read/work a crowd, and the vibe we were going for. I was extremely particular about what songs I did and did not want played, and Ryan worked really closely with me to make sure all the songs I wanted were either played by the band or during a DJed break (Ryan also added a DJ set after the band finished playing, so we were able to get all our non-band songs in). Hit Play absolutely rocked, and totally blew away all my expectations. Everyone danced all night, and was raving about the band at our brunch the next day.

many of our guests. Not only were they incredible performers, but they were genuinely awesome people! The made sure to play songs that everyone enjoyed and accommodated all of our requests! My husband, his groomsmen and even our photographer(!!) even got a chance to go crazy over some NOFX.

We got that and much more with Hit Play! From the moment we first reached out, Ryan was incredibly fast and friendly with his responses. The band has a very diverse catalog and they pay attention to the details with special song requests and blending together the genres you want to hear for the night. Having the conversation with Ryan a few weeks before the wedding really sealed the deal and we knew we were in good hands.
From providing excellent MC duties, to learning covers, and offering DJ services, Hit Play really does it all. They even let the groom’s band play a few songs to kick off the night which made it that much more special and memorable for us and all our guests! We had about 100 people at our wedding and the dance floor was packed all night, which was exactly what we were hoping for. Months later, our guests are still talking about how much fun they had and how great the band was. This is a talented and accommodating group for sure, so don’t hesitate to book them!

ony music, cocktail hour music, and reception introductions, transitions, and music. Ryan even performed a life rendition of our first song dance (it's an older song from the 1930's and did not have an appropriate recorded version for our first dance vision). This meant he learned the entire song, lyrics and all, and played it on his guitar. It was incredible and exactly how we envisioned it, except BETTER. We are so thankful to Ryan for learning that song for us, and can't thank him enough. It made it truly special! In addition, we've heard nothing but compliments and good things from all of our guests (ranging in age from 84 years old to 3 years old) about the live music performed by the band and the DJ music. The band sounded fantastic, the song selections were perfect, and all of the different instruments and vocal ranges were just simply outstanding. Lastly, rounding the night off with that last song (that the band also had just learned ahead of our wedding, and was performing it live for the first time together)...wow. It was all around such a fun day/night, largely in part because of Hit Play. We don't know what to say to express how grateful and thankful we are for finding and booking Hit Play for our special day, so: thank you to Ryan and all of the bandmates so very much. You all were a huge part of creating our dream day/night, and we are grateful to have found you guys. Ryan took the time to talk to us about what we were looking for a couple of weeks ahead of time, and he and the band knocked it out of the park by playing most of the songs we requested but also all songs that we really liked. Most impressive was the fact that they were able to learn and play a song which was not on their list for our first song. The dance floor was crowded the whole time. They took care of our ceremony music as well, and it was all amazing. Over a year later, we still have friends and family who bring up how incredible Hit Play was at our wedding. You won’t regret hiring them!

Where to begin… we decided that we were not going to let COVID ruin our plans for our big day. After speaking with several different bands and discussing our intentions, thoughts...
and itinerary, Ryan was the one guy who felt as if you were speaking to a college friend who was trying to actually help rather than create more drama. We had to work a little to get around state regulations for COVID in regards to no dancing and limited guest restrictions etc as we were getting married on Block Island. We opted to work with Ryan on guitar/vocals and two other band members to do the acoustic version of hit play…. After about, 20 minutes the no dancing regulation was thrown out the window. These guys had almost every guest out of their seats dancing in some fashion. We even collected donations from crowd to hire them for the rest of the evening to play instead of the local entertainment who was supposed to play at the bar next door bc they were so good.
In addition, Ryan basically replaced our wedding planner that we had to part ways with a month before the wedding. He played at the ceremony, he coordinated speeches, Dj’d dinner service and basically took control to insure everything went smoothly.
I am not sure whether I am writing a review for a wedding planner or a wedding band at this point but as I look back and reflect on that night, it would have never been the wedding that people are still talking about with out the help of Ryan and the musical talent of hit play.

g, but rather one of the most exciting parts of it! He provided a link to a planning document which was super helpful in a time where organization is needed!
The whole band was very flexible with traveling, changing ceremony & reception locations and keeping the party going all night long! After having conversations with Ryan prior to the wedding, he completely grasped our vibe and taste in music and knew how to pick up on the crowd throughout the day/night. Everyone loved his voice as well as Lynn's and we got nothing but compliments on every band member. Instead, I actually heard complaints from people who were sore the next day from dancing so much!
We love you Hit Play and wish we could do it all over again!!

I cannot put into words how amazing Hit Play performed at our wedding last October. All 250 guest were on their feet from the minute they came on stage until buses were pulling out...
of the venue. My husband and I even passed on cutting the cake because I refused to leave the dance floor. If you are hesitating at all - DONT! BOOK NOW! Best decision we’ve ever made.

At our event, the band put personal touches on their playlist after hearing references to bands and musicians during our ceremony and speeches. By reading the energy of the room, Hit Play kept our dancefloor full for the entire night!
