Carla is INCREDIBLE!!! We ordered our 3 tier wedding cake through Honey Crumb and were so incredibly thrilled with our experience. The tasting was so easy and fun and helped to narrow down the choices. Throughout the planning process, Carla was extremely communicative, detailed, and organized. And the cake itself - I mean, WOW! Look at that beauty. And it tasted even better than it looked. We can't thank Carla enough for delivering such a perfect cake and providing an incredible experience throughout.

Our cake was beautiful and delicious, but we had a disappointing customer service experience. We submitted a deposit to reserve the spot for our cake before tasting, because what drew us to the shop were their sugar flowers. We assumed the quality of cake would be comparable to other bakers with less exciting decorations and felt comfortable going forward, especially since the shop was so well reviewed. While I understand that having one tasting day per month, having those samples be pickup only, and offering a very narrow pickup time is convenient for the staff, it is not convenient for customers, especially since it takes 2 tastings to sample the entire set menu (there's and alternating a/b schedule to taste 4 of their 8 menu flavors at a time). There are also limited numbers of reservations available for these tastings and they are fairly expensive for the size of cake you receive, which is a small round container of a single layer of cake, filling, and frosting with a few bites each. When we tried the cakes on the day we had picked them up, the hot milk sponge flavors were all dry and had a texture somewhat like angel food cake. The buttercream was also a bit lighter in texture than my personal preference. The lemon, chocolate, and carrot cakes had a texture we liked more than we liked the hot milk sponge, though the lemon cake was dry, too. Our favorite flavor was the almond hot milk sponge cake with apricot compote and marzipan frosting. Since the website suggested that it was ok to ask the shop to do things that are not on their menu, we inquired whether we could have an almond flavored cake that was the same texture as the cakes that were not hot milk sponge. This seemed to offend Carla, who went about in a long, condescending, and unprofessional way to tell us this would not be possible and that she stands by the recipe for her cake. We apologized and ordered the cake without any changes to its normal execution. On the day of the wedding, we were surprised that the floral elements were larger and more whimsical than we expected from our inspiration images (a cake the shop had made in a previous year). An even bigger surprise was that the cake was moist and tender, far different and better than the sample we tried. I wish that Carla had either explained how the sample would be different from the final product, or had been more brief and kind in her communication as to what was possible to create a cake we would enjoy eating and sharing with our guests.

Our wedding cake from Honey Crumb was magical and exactly how we envisioned! It was beautiful and the lemon blueberry was delicious! Highly recommend!

I don't doubt Honeycrumb makes tasty cakes. But let's be honest - there are plenty of people who know how to make a cake. When I'm planning an event, my business relationship with a vendor is often even more important to me than the caliber of the product. And in this case, I am relieved that my interaction with Honeycrumb was finite and that I won't have to interact with them again. I am in the market for at least one high-end, custom cakes. Most vendors, in my experience, are willing to arrange cake tastings (for a price) so that you can try the different cake flavors before you shell out hundreds / thousands of dollars on the cake of your dreams. Not Honeycrumb! LOLOLOL absolutely not. Or, at least not on any terms but theirs. For one, you cannot go into the shop to taste the cakes. They also do not sell a single product that is not custom-made. So - the only way to try a cake before you commit to purchasing one is to spend at least $68 on a tasting. At least on their website, it seems the only way to DO a tasting is to book a cake tasting for pickup. According to Honeycrumb's site: "We've found it's much more efficient and fun (for everyone!) if you do the tasting in the comfort of your own home, and then we discuss and finalize all the details for your cake order via email or phone." Furthermore, you can't even taste flavors that YOU pick, or even all of their flavors in one go! No, you would need to spread your tastings across TWO MONTHS to try all of the flavors. Again, in their words: "We alternate the flavors for subsequent tastings. There are 8x flavors on our menu in total. So, if you order TWO tastings, one after the other, you'll sample our entire menu!" But it gets better! Is it convenient to acquire the cake tasting, you ask? ABSOLUTELY NOT. No - you have a two-hour window, once a month, on a Saturday to get the cake. They generously offer that you can have someone else pick up the cake tasting FOR you, or they can set the cake aside for you for later, but they make it clear that this is a weird imposition, and that your cake might not taste as good because you won't be picking it up on the day it was meant to be "enjoyed." If I'm trying to plan a party, how is spending TWO FREAKING MONTHS trying your cakes on YOUR EXTREMELY RESTRICTIVE SCHEDULE is "efficient" or "fun" for me? Maybe you see where this review is going. I booked a cake tasting, and confirmed that the two-hour pickup window would happen when I was in town. But then - lo and behold - my May schedule changed. A month before the pickup was supposed to happen, I reached out to Honeycrumb to try to cancel the tasting pick-up and get my money back. I was informed that, despite the tasting happening a month in the future I would absolutely never see my $68 again. Yes -- Carla said I could pick up the cake on a Monday instead, but the overall inconvenience of the tasting, paired with the refusal to cancel a (non-custom) reservation more than a month in the future, left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I figured it was worth a shot to protest the charge with PayPal. Shortly after submitting the protest, I received a weird, long email from Carla whose tone was best described as "extreme hostility masquerading as confusion." I decided the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. I stopped engaging entirely and decided not to pick up the cake after all. I found the overall experience so weird and unpleasant I will avoid Honeycrumb and vendors like them in the future.
