Hotel St. Louis is a beautifully restored art deco building, which is what attracted us to the space. Our guests were all very positive about their rooms and experience with the b...ookings manager Dalton. We can’t compliment him and the waitstaff for the wedding reception enough. The bridal suite was a great room to get ready in the day of the wedding. We loved having the option of guests go up to the rooftop bar after the reception and it was a beautiful venue for a breakfast the morning after.
Unfortunately, we had a very frustrating experience planning the wedding reception at Hotel St. Louis. A new event coordinator (the hotel uses the title Catering & Conference Services Manager) Ella was hired by the hotel three or four months before our wedding, and she was very unprofessional and disorganized. She would take one to two weeks to reply to most emails, or wouldn’t reply at all. We would have liked to settle event details well in advance to avoid being so stressed right before the event, but that was not possible working with her. Since she was not detail oriented, which should be a requirement for any event coordinator, I even tried sending her a comprehensive document with all the info I anticipated she’s need from our end, and she barely read it. Three days before the wedding, we were told by the head of events at the hotel that Ella would not be working for the rest of the week. The event turned out well, but having to go over logistics again with other folks at the hotel last minute was stressful. We would not recommend using Hotel St. Louis as a reception venue if she is still the event coordinator. We would advise taking a proactive approach with the event planning staff at the hotel even if a new coordinator has been hired. With so much service industry flux the past few years, we’d heard from someone else that hosted a dinner in the ballroom recently that the event was very understaffed and that tables got their dinners 30 minutes after others had been served. With this information, we asked Hotel St. Louis commit to how much waitstaff would be servicing our event. The dinner and wine service went great with no issues since we had sufficient staff (1 waiter for every 2 tables), which we had to fight for a commitment on. We were also disappointed that event services tried to upsell us multiple times close to the wedding date by listing higher prices for package items than we'd originally been quoted, which was in bad taste.
All in all, a beautiful venue (or hotel for your guests to stay), but we'd definitely caution you on the challenges working with the event sales/management team. I don't normally write reviews, but truly believe couples need as much info as possible during the wedding venue selection process, so I hope this review is helpful.
