Although my dress was beautiful and the alterations person did a good job, the experience with this company was not great. The initial visit felt pressuring to buy. My bridesmaids also bought their dresses from here and we received almost zero help with the dresses when picking them out. And they tried to only give us one dressing room for 7 girls! We took it upon ourselves to grab a second unoccupied one. When it came time to receiving the dress. Mine (bride) and the bridesmaids it took FOREVER. I ordered my dress in February and did not get it till late August even though they originally told me it would be early August. They said the same for the bridesmaids dresses, early-mid August. But I had to call week after week asking for the dresses. Every week they would say they were shipping that week. The run around was the worst! I finally got them late September for my wedding that was in late October! It gave me a lot of extra stress and anxiety that was not needed!
If I could leave a zero I would! The owner of the store is completely rude. I went there twice, trying to give her the benefit of the doubt since we all have our bad days. The first time was without an appointment and just to browse dresses. She was very rude and unattentive. The second time I made an appointment with my maid of honor to find a dress. Thankfully when we got there another employee assisted. However, because a bigger party, without an appointment, came in at the same time as my appointment she chose to wait on them first and give more attention to them. I continued with my dress search alone. There was no assistance what so ever. I found 3 dresses I liked. There was no assistance at all. Finally I went to ask the young lady that initially tried to help us. Instead, the owner came in and made her attend to the other party and set us aside once again. My MOH was a winner of a free robe. While trying to walk to the front of the store to redeem it, the owner physically put her hands around my back to move me instead of saying excuse me. As we got to the front said she couldn't get the robe unless she bought a bridesmaid dress, though it clearly said no purchase necessary. At that point I was just angry! We walked out and I'm NEVER return there again. Horrible service. Do not get your dress from here!
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. No bride should be going into this place and having the whole “getting married” experience snatched away by them. They DO NOT care about their customers. The manager Joanne and the seamstress are horrible! First, they like to give you an attitude for mistakes they made. I paid $600 for the seamstress to alter my dress and she did half the job they promised me. When I went to pick up my dress at the final fitting the seamstress gave me my dress all undone with the zipper down, straps off the hangers, all bunch up from the bottom and in a plastic bag. I could not believe how she presented my dress to Me. But again, she had an attitude when I questioned her. Second, they ordered the incorrect dress for one of my bridesmaids and at first they wanted to refund her so she can go elsewhere. A mistake they made and they could have cared less. They agreed to make the dress after I continuously pressed them on fixing their mistake. They stated they were going to order the material and make it. Well the seamstress waited on July 4th to make it knowing we were flying out for the wedding July 6th. When my bridesmaid went to pick up the dress it was way too big even though they had her measurements. It was so unfair to her and to myself that she got a horrible dress with the seams popping out of everywhere. She literally had to hold the dress up with safety pins the day of the wedding. It was a destination wedding and we had no additional time to go elsewhere to get it fixed. Please ladies, avoid this place at all costs. I regret not reading reviews before I stepped foot into this place. Go elsewhere where they value you as a customer and make this once in a lifetime experience a beautiful thing. This place is not it! #boycotthouseofbrides in Orland Park
I would give it a negative number if I could. I went with my daughter-in-law to be to your store today. An experience that is supposed to make the bride to be, feel comfortable, beautiful and special. Which Nicole DID NOT.
I walked in a little behind my party, to someone telling my daughter-in-law "Are you going back to David's, we don't have any dresses in your budget." The tone in her voice made my heart break. The mother of the bride asked if she could see a dress, Nicole told her it was over budget. I finally took the dress and gave it to the bride to try on. Now, how does Nicole know that the bride's mother or me won't cover the difference. I called my son and he said, "if she loves it, just get it". But Nicole didn't even bring any dresses, she was with another customer, even thou we had an appointment, and we were there. The bride tried on 2 dresses, looking like she wanted to cry, she just wanted to leave. I understood, she was humiliated in front of her family. She was spoke down to, like she did not deserve to be in this store. When everyone left, I went up to Nicole and tried to make her understand how she made the CUSTOMER feel. She told me that I wasn't there and that I did not know what I was talking about. She told me that her manager knew how she spoke to the bride and agreed with her. I then asked to talk to the manager, she said she wasn't there. Nicole was very argumentized, to the point of my blood boiling. DO NOT SHOP HERE, David's bridal is right down the street, beautiful dresses, GREAT customer service, with a budget for everyone, with no judgement.
100% HORRIBLE! Was told bridesmaid dresses would be in April, 2021. Then was told bridesmaid dresses would be in by May. Was then told 3 weeks ago dresses were shipped and would be here in a week. 3 weeks later NO dresses!!! Asked owner to sign that if dresses not in by Monday 6/21/21 a full refund would be given. Owner refused! Was told she would guarantee me the dresses would be in on Monday 6/21/21. Also was told 2 weeks ago my daughter's headpiece and blusher veil were in. As of today only had the headpiece in the store and NOT the veil!!! Now the owner tells me the veil will be in tomorrow!!! Same dance around for 2 months now! STAY AWAY!!!!
I ordered my dress in June and still don't have it. THINK before you order here. I have talked to multiple people and no one has been willing to try to make anything right. I may not have it for my wedding. If it comes in I will need to drive for 4 or more alteration fittings.... and we have less than a month before the wedding. THIS HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE. My bridesmaid ordered in November and was told it would be in on time and within three months. She then got yelled at over the phone yesterday and was told she should have taken into consideration the Chinese New Year and Christmas. WHAT????? We were told my wedding dress would be in within 3 months. They lied non-stop when we had to dive up there yesterday. I have voicemails saying the manager was looking into things. Yesterday the manager Chris said it was the first time she heard of it. Not once did she ask what they could do to make it right. We had to ask. Now I may not have the dress of my dreams, and they can't promise when my dress will be in. They said they talked to vendors and found our registry and saw our date for the reception. My grandmother is dying and we are having an early ceremony THAT I NEED THE DRESS AT AND HAD PLANNED FOR LAST JUNE WHEN WE BOUGHT THE DRESS. 4/24 also sated on paperwork.
Brides...RUNNN do not WALK!!! If i could i would give this place zero stars! This place is not only unprofessional, they have completely ruined my wedding!!! I did not Yelp them before i went and that was a HUGE mistake! I ordered my bridesmaid dresses 10 of them to be exact 8 months before my date! I had to postponed my date due to covid and told them i was doing so which allowed them 2 more months 10 months in total to get my dresses in and they failed to get them in on time. They called me a couple days before my wedding date that the dresses were in. Mind you my girls are all from different states. Which did not allow them enough time to get them fitted. When we arrived they order my MOH dress way to small and said it was "our fault". When i asked to see the paper they admitted to their fault and said we can pick out a dress that they had on hand. They did not have any in my MOH size. We asked for a refund and went to David's bridal since the wedding was in 2 days. The manager by the name of Chris called me and said she called my hall and they told her my wedding was postponed to another date and Chris also looked me up on The Knot and said i was lying about my wedding date and that they would not issue a refund and just order another dress. She had no right to look my information up and call my hall. I did have a little wedding with close friends and family the day i had originally planned my wedding date for in which we needed the dresses on time for. It was totally unprofessional and Chris took it to another level! So ladies be careful if you read the rest of the comment you will see they even had the cops called on them because they failed to get dresses on time and ignore phone calls! Also the receptionist is totally rude and always has an attitude. When i complained to her manager about her they told me they have a lot on their plate with little staff. They lack customer service, communication and respect! Like i said RUNNN AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My wedding is in 8 weeks and my bridesmaids got their dresses from this horrid establishment. 2 out of my 5 bridesmaids dresses were ordered in THE WRONG SIZE. Like 3 sizes too SMALL. They measured the girls accordingly and then did not order them in the correct size and we did not find out about their mistake until today with my wedding being 8 weeks away. When we spoke to the owner DONNA in person she ignorantly said "well what do you want me to do about it. Its just a dress." JUST A DRESS?? This is my wedding that I have been dreaming about since I was little and now with my wedding being around the corner my matron of honor and my other bridesmaids are without dresses. We got a refund because they failed to produce any sort of logical solution to fix the problem. They didn't even say sorry! This "business" is a joke and the owner and employees are uneducated and are scam artists. I am astounded to see this is how they treat a customer let alone a registered nurse. **BRIDES DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE. YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF AND NOT HAVE YOUR DRESSES BY YOUR WEDDING*** If you want to support a illegitimate business this is a place for you. They do not care about their customers/brides or your special day. They only care about themselves which shows why they have such bad reviews ALL OF THE SAME CONCERN. The owner is a bitch and a liar who does not have any emotion. You can tell this has happened to her before. She is a sad excuse of a human; she has not heart and no business ethic. Highly upset and annoyed by these uneducated people.
I would not use House of Brides Glen Ellyn. My dress arrived late. When the office shut down due to COVID in March, I would not be able to get my dress to me. While they perhaps can't be blamed for COVID, I believe I deserved to know by received no email or communication letting me know that they email or a call that the dress would not arrive on time. I could not get email replys and no one answered the phones. I received callbacks but no valid number to return the call was ever given. It was very stressful. I asked if I could get a refund, have my dress shipped, or borrow a floor sample. No response. I don't blame them for covid but I paid in full. I think I deserved to be told the plan and timeline for getting the product in. I got my dress late ultimately and still have not received a reply about a partial refund or even an apology for the confusion.
So far, so good! I had an appointment at the Schaumburg location and my consultant was Maria. I had a smaller budget and she was super understanding and helpful. They sold me a sample dress at a discount price and offered to do the cleaning for free and a discount on the alterations! Overall, it was a fun experience and we felt very safe during these Covid-19 times. I'm only leaving 4 stars for now because I haven't gone in for a fitting or alterations. Plus, there were a few (small) fees associated with the shipping to get the dress to the store that kind of "sprung up" at checkout. But I can't stress enough how awesome Maria was in helping me find a dress! She wasn't pushy and was responsive to what I wanted to try on/my budget.
I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I ordered 4 of my bridesmaids' dresses in January. Two of my bridesmaids live out of state so I asked if there would be enough time for alterations, and I was told on the phone (by JoAnn, the store manager) that they would arrive at the store in May and there would be plenty of time. A few months went by and COVID hit the US, so I thought I would give them a call in March to make sure everything was still good to go. After numerous phone calls to the Orland Park store and Customer Service, weeks later I finally heard back and was told by Linda: "I don't know why you're worried. They'll be here the beginning of May." After receiving that phone call, I was slightly relieved and hopeful my dresses would still be here for my July wedding. A few more weeks went by and I started seeing comments from other brides on the House of Brides Facebook page (that have since been deleted) stating that they have not received any updates and their weddings were quickly approaching, so I decided to give them another call just in case. This time I was told that the "June dresses were running so far behind" and that there was "no way my July dresses would be here, but they would keep me updated." I began searching for a new dress for my bridesmaids and kindly asked for a refund since my dresses would not be here in time and thought I would be helping them out since they were "so behind." The woman on the phone informed me that she would talk to JoAnn about a refund and someone would contact me. A few more weeks go by and now we are in the month of May. I called over and over again, left message after message and did not hear back from the store or customer service. Although I understand things may be difficult due to the virus, this began to feel like House of Brides was ignoring the problem. My maid of honor was able to get a hold of someone and the woman on the phone said, "oh its not a problem anymore since she changed her wedding date." My maid of honor said "no she didn't. I am her maid of honor so I would know something like this." The woman on the phone LAUGHED and said, "weird that she didn't tell you." I am disgusted at how they have treated me, my bridesmaids, and many of the other brides that have commented and left reviews. Fast forward to this week, my mom called and JoAnn informed her on 6/3/2020 that we would have to contact customer service to issue a refund, so that is what we did. After talking with a representative from customer service, they told us we would need to contact the store and they would be able to issue a refund. I also did my own research and found something on the BBB website stating that a refund was issued in store by JoAnn for another bride. We contacted the store but the store manager was unavailable, so we left a message with her. She called me back and said I was "confused" and that my dresses would be arriving next week. We called today to see what in the world is going on and JoAnn pretended like she knew nothing about ever saying there would be a refund and said "you are not getting a refund." She also said that my dresses are magically appearing tomorrow since they overnighted them (since it would have pained her to admit she was wrong). Even though we did not get a refund, there is NO way I am letting my bridesmaids wear these dresses. It is not worth giving House of Brides advertisement at my wedding. Ladies, save your time, effort, and money.
As many of us do we review places/things before we buy. I saw that House of Brides had poor reviews however wanted to stay optimistic. I visited the location in Schaumburg, Alicia was very kind and helpful. Seemed like a good experience and then purchased my wedding dress same day (11/6/19). I was informed the dress was coming from overseas but would be here in time for alterations and left it at that. On 2/24/20 I called to check in and see if update was available and was told that there was no information in the system and a would have to speak to a manager and would receive a call back. No call back. On 3/2/20 called again and left a voicemail with manager (voicemail indicates return calls in 24hrs). I called on 3/4 and was told the manager was out that day. Called again 3/5 and told the manager was in an interview and promised I would receive a call back by end of business day. It is now 3/6/20 and I have not received any call back. Reached out again and was told the manager is off today and they are unsure when a manager would be back but I could try to call Glen Ellyn location. I have tried calling Glen Ellyn location for hours and no one even answers the phone there. I obtained a different number from website, called and of course no answer. They also have a chat option but no one responds to chat. I wish I listened to the reviews. The lack of customer service is disturbing considering this is a persons special day. I have no idea if my dress is ordered, on the way, expected delivery, nothing. I will be disputing with my bank and taking business elsewhere. I do not even know how this place is in business. I simple phone call to acknowledge a customer goes a long way.
So if I could go back and not use this shop I would. First of all our saleswomen was nice and helpful he name was Araceli she was probably the only positive person in this encounter. So the dress I really liked had stains on it and was discontinued, they offered to steam the dress but any deep stains on the dress would have to be removed by me (this dress is over $1000 and if I'm spending that much money I shouldn't have to clean stains out of a new dress). I went with another dress and paid $1000 cash to order it. I looked at the dresses for my bridesmaids and they were all very pricey and decided to go with another store that had pretty much the same dresses but for $100 less. This was just me choosing to be more cost efficient for my bridesmaids. So about a week after ordering is when the harassing phone calls started. Automated calls and text messages about sales. Several a week. I had to call twice to get them to stop these messages. This really makes me angry because when I put my number down, it was go pick up my dress not be harassed and solicited sales. I even asked for this not to happen when signing up! So once they stopped, I let it go no issues. So today I get a message from them telling me that my dress is in and they stated I owe more then what my receipt says I owe and tell me it is CASH ONLY! I called in to ask what I need to do and verify that I can put this on my card and the lady on the phone was probably having a bad day because she basically yelled at me saying I should have known it was cash only pickup and "oh well that's our store policy." If I knew this I wouldn't have put the $1000 in cash to begin with! I would have put that portion on my card! Nobody told me this when I purchased my dress! This is not written on the receipt! I verified with the three people I was with that this was not mentioned! So now I have to pay cash that I wasn't expecting to use which is an inconvenience at this point. I am also curious to find out when I pick up my dress why they are charging me more. My receipt says a different number. (Taxes, shipping and alterations were all included, what are they adding on?) so overall I appreciated our sales lady but this company is not client friendly, tried to sell stained dresses without cleaning them, harasses you with sales calls and messages, doesn't disclose "cash only" policy and tries to change fees after you already paid. I wouldn't recommend this company as a whole to anyone after these experiences. I went to pick up my dress, the extra charge was for a bag to keep it in which I didn't ask for. I also looked adamantly for the signage that says that the customer has to pay cash for their final payment, there was no sign anywhere in sight. The receipt said nothing about it, the associate said nothing about it (confirmed by the 4 people I was with), and there are no signs at all in the store about saying this policy. The associate suggested my dress was purchased before new ownership (which would mean the policy wasn't in place) and that they refuse to honor the policy that was in effect WHEN I PURCHASED MY DRESS! I refuse to have them alter the dress for $400+ after reading the reviews on other sites (which I suggest you do). I have found a place to do it for $150 and it was ready in a week! As stated before, this company is under new ownership and is not customer friendly.
I visited House Of Brides Couture in Lombard, IL on a whim. I was in town for a few days to visit my "Bonus Mom" who was also only in town for a few days. We visited another shop in the area and found a possible dress, but I wanted to go ahead and continue with our appointment at HOB. We were greeted quickly and allowed to browse dresses and pull a few that I wanted to try on. We pulled some dresses and our consultant pulled a couple for me as well before heading to the dressing room. I did end up finding the perfect dress - one chosen by the consultant - and placed my order that day.
Unfortunately, once I returned home and began the wait for my gown I happened to pull up reviews of the store and was terrified for what may be ahead. I put it in the back of my mind since our in-store experience had been great and continued to wait on my purchase to arrive.
Finally, my purchase arrived in their store!! I needed to have it shipped to me since I do not live in IL so they called to let me know it was in. When I returned their call I was told that only half my order was there. Queue the nerves! This sounded like what all the other reviews said now! I called the next day and was told my entire order was in fact there and they would get an estimate done for shipping costs. I did not hear back from them for several days and when I called I only reached a voicemail system. I finally received a return call after multiple messages and was able to have a friend check out the dress in person for me. Once all was well, the gown was sent to me. I paid for signature upon arrival, but the gown was left on the door step and the package showed no sign of any special shipping instructions.
Thankfully, the gown, train, belt and veil were all in great shape and just what I ordered.
If you are local to the store and can pop in to check on things I would suggest buying your dress there. The consultants were great while we were there. If you must have live out of state, I would either shop elsewhere or be ready for a bit of run around.
Also - you'll get 8374950 automated phone calls about their sales and such after you give them your number, I eventually had to block the number on my phone.
I could not be more satisfy with the great service I received from the Glen Ellyn location! From the moment I walked in to the moment I said YES to my beautiful dress. My consultant Araceli made my experience so enjoyable. I have nothing but great things to say about this salon. I will recommend all brides to be to come in. Thank you Araceli and House Of Brides for making my experience so wonderful.
I had a great experience at House of Brides. The ladies were extremely kind and easy to work with! I found the perfect dress here for a very reasonable price. I also got my bridesmaids dresses here. Everything was in on time. And, the alterations department did an incredible job. I'd highly recommend!
We ordered our bridesmaids dresses here in November 2017, come end of july 2018 the dresses were still not in. We all had to request a refund because we didn't wanna risk not having a dress for the wedding. This isn't even the first time they've done this. A week later the news did a story on how a bunch of other bridesmaids dresses never came as well. I do not know what their process is but they got it wrong and need to fix it. Strongly DO NOT RECOMMEND.
I bought my dress through house of brides although I did not initially try it on there. I found my dress at a smaller boutique and found that House of Brides carried the Allure brand. Even though they did not have the dress that I wanted they did give me a great deal if I was to order it through them. I went to the House of Brides in Glen Ellyn and Katie was the main person that I worked with. She was wonderful and very helpful.
The alterations department was perfect as well. I can't say enough about how well my dress came out after alterations. Any little thing that I wanted to fix was fixed and fixed extremely well. I would recommend going through house of brides, just give enough time for ordering you dress. I initially told them that my wedding date was a month before my actual date and my dress came in time. I have heard that other people have had an issue with getting the dress in but I did not.
I had Loren from the House of Brides Couture in Glen Ellyn assist me with trying on wedding gowns. Her personality was fun and reassuring. I could tell that she had experience and knew what she was doing. I told her what I thought I wanted and she pulled out many dresses according to what I wanted and she also pulled out many dresses that she thought would look nice on me. I found the perfect dress for me that same day and it wasn't at all like what I thought I wanted. I went for the strapless sweetheart mermaid dress, thinking I wanted a long sleeve of the shoulder A-line dress. I would recommend buying your gown from the House of Brides to future brides!
Like many of the reviews on here, I would recommend either getting your bridesmaid dresses here a year in advance or lying about your wedding date. My bridesmaid dresses came so close to the wedding date it left little room for alterations. Luckily everything worked out really when and they were super helpful when they realized how stressed it was making me. But I recommend to play it safe if you’re getting anything from here.
I don't even know where to begin. I bought my dress (Allure) in May 2017 from the Orland Park, IL store the consultant was great and helped me get what I was looking for, unfortunately that would be the last time I would have a positive experience with HOB. It was due to that isolated experience that I went to their Schaumburg location and my bridesmaids bought their dresses (November 2017).
Fast forward to February 19, 2018, after not hearing from either location about my dresses I decide to call them. It is then that one of the most UNPROFESSIONAL, NERVE WRECKING, AND HORRIBLE experiences of my life begins.
The Managers were never available, out sick, or would take a message to call me back; when I would finally get one of them on the phone, I would get a different story about my dresses each time. Eventually, I got a call from a woman in the "the shipping department" who told me that my bridesmaid dresses were "stuck in customs" & we would get them sometime the week before the wedding! As for my gown, she didn't know where it was and would reach out to the vendor to get more information (the entire time I had been calling, they swore the dressed was on its way). It makes me sick to my stomach to read all the similarities in the countless reviews I am reading about this place. How are they still in business?
The last time I spoke to a Manager (Deana at Orland Park) on Sat. 3/10 (only 2 wks before my wedding 3/25/18), she offered no apology but instead said "I don't know what to tell you at this point" & when I asked her to cancel ther order & give me a refund, she said "I am not giving you a refund, perhaps you want to take a look at your contract" my response to her was "you mean the one you are breaking?" and she hung up on me.
If you are a bride contemplating going to a House of Brides, please DO NOT, save yourself the headache and listen to all of the overwhelming stories (more negative than positive by far!) of bad experiences that we've had with this place and their employees.
What they do is completely unacceptable and should not be taken lightly. The more and more I look into this company, the more I kick myself for coming to this place. Not only do they have countless negative reviews (all too similar) but I've found a number of lawsuits for breach of contract with both customers & vendors. There is even a charge against the owners for filing fraudulent taxes!
Do your research!
only a week and a half before my wedding (3/25/18) and
I worked with Nancy and she was phenomenal!
When it came time to have alterations, they were extremely accommodating! Great selection as well!
The Glen Ellyn location went above and beyond for me in my situation. My mother-in-law is ill and they rushed my dress shipment in case I needed a shot gun wedding. Katie was the sweetest woman and did everything for us.
We used the Schaumberg location to prder accessories and it kept getting delayed. Months went by and I never jeard anything. The Glen Ellyn location spoke with Schaumberg and not even a week later my items came in!!
They were so sweet and I couldn't have asked for better people consultants. I heard lots of negatives about the store, but I never had a problem with them!
Aurora location, not Glen Elyn. Consultant Michaela was nice enough but the delays are enough to give anyone ulcers. After paying a LUDICROUS shipping AND rush fee my dress still took more than 3 weeks longer than promised to arrive---as in my seamstress had 2 weeks to alter before i left for my destination wedding!! (No way was i paying an EXTRA $450 for taking in bodice--the thought of the possibility of more delays made me ill!)
Manager never available to answer questions as always "out sick" or "at another location" and that was when the phones were working and you could actually reach someone there!! Consultant never followed through on providing me with shipping verification or tracking number as promised on multiple phone calls.
Should have looked at the DISMAL reviews online and believed them before shopping here!!
And, why oh why are women still falling for these ridiculous fees and up-charges and long waits at bridal stores? It is the 21st century and other vendors can have my clothes and shoes delivered in 1-2 days and provide tracking info almost instantaneously!!! O'Hare has multiple flights to China a day--should have gone there directly to shop as at least i would have had the pleasure of getting my dress on time!!!
Oh, and why are there no photos allowed? Everything in the store is searchable online already (I easily located my Bonnie Bridal dress on their site). Let me have my "say yes to the dress" moment on camera, please.
The negative reviews are 100% accurate. We placed an order for 4 bridesmaid dresses on July 12, they said they would be in by the end of October. They never arrived. We called and called, and every time they told us that a manager would have to get back to us the next day and we would never hear back from them again. When we demanded answers in November they told us the dresses would be in by the end of November or early December at the latest. No Dresses. We called in the beginning of December and they assured us they would be in by December 8th. No Dresses. My wedding is in 3 weeks and I don’t know if the dresses will get here on time for alterations. No one will take a phone call and the manager never returns calls. They just blatantly lie, and the consultants are rude on the phone. It’s not worth the stress, please go anywhere else and save yourself the aggravation.
Terrible! They will not get you your dress on time. I will never go back here for bridesmaids dresses. The bad reviews are true. DO NOT GO HERE
My dress was stunning, and I really really liked br sales women who helped me pick it out. However customer service after you order is just alright. Seems like they aren't super organized. And at one point couldn't track my dress
Honestly, I was kind of reluctant to shop at House of Brides! I had heard some horror stories from other brides. But, I decided to make an appointment to just "look" at some dresses. When we got there we were greeted by Maryann, who was amazing! I quickly found my prefect dress. It was gorgeous, reasonably priced, and fit perfectly! I was so happy with my dress experience, I went back and got the bridesmaid dresses there too. I would recommend House of Brides!
Based on other reviews, I made an appointment to view gowns with Nancy, and I couldn't be happier! Nancy was fantastic, catered to all my needs, and enthusiastic about my wedding! 10/10 would recommend.
I bought my dress at HOB in May, somewhat reluctantly because I had seen these bad reviews so I was nervous about purchasing here. I do agree that they are slightly pushy about buying your dress on the spot, sort of scaring you into thinking that if you take a day or two to think it over, the dress you love might be gone. My mom couldn't be there when I tried on dresses so I wanted to come back with her later that week to make a final decision, and the sales associates talked me out of it. There also is one employee who is unpleasant to speak to, I think her name was Miriam or Mary Anne or something like that. But aside from that, my experience with HOB has been great. Nancy is the associate who worked with me and she was very helpful and easy to talk to, and she even remembered me when I came back to the store two months later. My dress arrived only 7 weeks after I bought it. I've now had two alterations appointments which have both gone well. I'll try my dress on again 10 days before the wedding, and I'll take it home with me that day, barring any issues with the final alterations. But I don't anticipate any issues because the seamstress seems very skilled. Overall I'm happy with my experience!
I had THE best experience here. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and knowledgable. I was being helped by Nancy, who I am probably going to invite her to my wedding.. Haha not kidding, she was outstanding. So friendly, knew what she was talking about, made me feel like the most beautiful person in the world, she was patient and I could not have chosen a better person to help me during this process.
While planning my wedding, I avoided going dress shopping as long as possible because I knew how picky I was and I figured it would take me an impossibly long time to find the right dress. Boy was I wrong but it was all thanks to house of brides. I called in the morning and had no problem making an appointment later that day. I came in and my consultant asked me what I would like in my dress. When I showed her picture examples and explained, she told me to go look around and find some dresses I'd like to try on and she'll be right back with one that she immediately thought of that would be the perfect fit to what I'm looking for. She came back with the most stunning dress. I tried it on first and it was perfect. I fell in love with the dress and I chose that one. I did try on a few more after to make sure it wasn't just the excitement of putting on a dress and it definitely wasn't. I'm in love with my wedding dress and it was so perfect, and it was all thanks to the consultant at House of Brides. I probably would have never found the dress of my dreams if it wasn't for her.
I purchased my dress, as well as my bridesmaids dresses from this store. I completely fell in love with both my dress, and the girl's dress! And mine was even on clearance so I got a $2000 dress for $900!! The bridesmaids dresses were a little pricey, at about $180 each, but they were very intricate and classy and elegant, and luckily the girls can wear them again if they choose, so the cost of those wasn't the end of the world. However, we ordered the dresses in June, and did not get them until the 2nd week in November, with only about 3 or so weeks left to get alterations done before the wedding! On top of that, I had some out of state bridesmaids who had to wait for the dresses even longer because I had to go pick up the dresses from the local Illinois location and ship them to the out of state girls, delaying their alterations even further. I understand that it can take a while for them to come in, and we were told initially that they'd come in at the beginning of November, but the frustrating part is that all of us were calling at the end of October to find out when they'd be in exactly so we could get them picked up and get them altered, and no one could tell us a thing about it because the manager was out then, and they'd leave a message for her to call back. Except that she doesn't return phone calls... I had the same issue with the alterations department when trying to make my first appointment to get my dress altered. Several voicemails went un-returned, and several calls where the employee said the manager would call the next day, were never returned either. I was very pleased with my dress, and the alterations, and price of the alterations, that they did on my dress, but to not return a call from a pretty freaked out bride who doesn't know, and can't find out because no one at your store knows either, when her bridesmaids dresses are going to arrive, and its 4-5 weeks before the wedding...that's not good service, and added a whole lot of unnecessary stress on my plate! Overall, good prices, nice dresses, pretty decent sized selection, just hope you don't have many questions you need answered after the fact!
This place is the BIGGEST SCAM ever. DO NOT BUY YOUR DRESS FROM HERE. Only one star given because they wouldn't let me give zero stars.
House of Brides is an AWFUL company that offers really gorgeous dresses at a very reasonable (read: cheap/discounted) price. Please note: It is NOT WORTH IT.
You will have an amazing shopping experience, feel very flattered, and feel pressured to buy your dress that day or that weekend, because there is some big sale going on and you've already waited too long, so you'll have to put in a rush order, but they'll give you a discounted rush price if you order that week. Whatever. It's all a play to get you to buy a dress before you read the reviews.
If you do buy your dress from House of Hell, you will be told it will arrive about two months before your wedding. It won't. Without fail, no matter how many times you call, you will be told they can't check the status of your order, that the manager just left the office, is on vacation, etc.
If you have a knight in shining armor who likes to yell at incompetent people, you might be able to convince them to ship the dress a week earlier than they planned. In my case, they said I wasn't going to get my dress until September 12th - my wedding was the 19th. That is just one week before the date I would be walking down the aisle in the dress. They do this so they can scam you into overpaying for their expedited (read: sloppy) alterations.
The only way to get any answers is to have a man go in and demand them. The manager was, in my husband's words, "worse than a sleazy car salesman." She tried flattery and went so far as to stroke his arm while trying to get him to stop berating them for lying repeatedly about the ship date. The manager confided in my husband that the only way to get anything done in the wedding industry was to use male privilege because women were easy to brush off as being too emotional.
Awful. Awful. Awful. I cannot say it enough times. Do not believe anything they say. And DO NOT BUY YOUR DRESS FROM HOUSE OF BRIDES.
DO NOT USE THEM!!! They are rude, inconsiderate, and cancelled my alterations appointment multiple times. They didn't have my dress done till 5pm the night before my wedding. I was late my rehearsal because they were running late. Then they refused to let me try on my dress when I was there to pick it up. The hem is cut on an angle and all I could do is cry when I left the salon. The price off the start was great for the dress but the alterations is very expensive and the customer service is the WORST! They are rude on the phone and made me out to be the bad guy because they called me to cancel. Never ever will I ever let anyone I know enter this salon. DO NOT GO WITH THEM!!!!!!
I loved my dress, and this chain was the only one that carried it. Their service was very helpful during my appointments. Getting a hold of someone when wanting updates was difficult though. I was not called that my dress was in, I found out by calling myself.
My visit to the House of Brides in Glen Ellyn was easily one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had.
Before even discussing the experience I had with the Consultant, I have to describe to poor condition of the dresses themselves. Being a plus sized woman, I was directed to the very small "Diva" portion of the store. It was kind of disheartening to see all of the other choices available to thinner brides upon walking into the store, and then be guided into a separate room with far less options. The Diva dresses were in pretty bad condition. I saw a dress with a disgusting brown stain across the front, a dress with a large gash in it, along with some other dresses with missing beading and small tears. That being said, many of those dresses were being sold "as-is." No thank you, House of Brides! There is no way I would pay upwards of $3,000 for a dress that has clearly been trashed.
Now, to describe the customer service...
My Consultant's name was Loren. She told me I could pick 3 dresses I liked and then she would pick an additional one that she thought would look nice on me. I didn't really appreciate her making the process of shopping for my wedding dress sound like a game, but I didn't say anything. I understand that consultants have time constraints, as the time slots with each bride are only about an hour long.
Upon informing me about the sizes available, she told me that I should "shop for the body that I will have for the wedding, not the one I have now." I was EXTREMELY insulted by this comment. Who do you think you are? How DARE you insinuate that there is something wrong with the body I have now! And shame on you for speaking to someone in that manner, especially considering that you are trying to convince me to purchase your low quality, overpriced product.
I was completely devastated. I was very anxious about finding a comfortable, flattering wedding dress and dreaded the dress shopping process, so this was my worst nightmare.
When I was dismissed to pick out the 3 dresses I was allowed to try on, I tried my best to wipe away my tears. Loren then proceeded to follow me around the room at an obnoxiously close proximity, while shoving dresses in my face. After saying “no thank you,” to her “assistance” at least a dozen times, I grabbed a few dresses and headed for the fitting room. My Maid of Honor was just about to close the curtain and help me into the dresses when Loren barged her way into the fitting room and announced that she was going to help me with my dresses. As politely as I possibly could, I told her that her assistance was not needed. Then after trying on a few dresses, we left the store and will never go back. My Maid of Honor timed our visit, and informed me that we left after about 15 minutes.
If the management from this House of Brides location reads my review, I implore you to have a serious talk with your staff about sensitivity and tact. For some women, shopping is not an enjoyable experience. It’s difficult! Women hear enough negative messages about their bodies in the media; they certainly do not need to hear that kind of crippling negativity from the person who is supposed help them find the most iconic (and expensive) piece of clothing they will wear in their lifetime.
The most horrendous customer service I have ever experience. Stay far away from here. 4 of my 6 bridesmaids dresses came in too small. First they tried to tell me that my bridesmaids must have all grown. After going into the store and asking to see the original measurements, it was clear that my consultant ordered dresses 2 inches too small!! They store still insists they did nothing wrong.
After trying to get a hold of someone for a week, I finally got in touch with the general manager, Michelle. I specially told her DO NOT touch the dresses until I come back in. She was supposed to call me the following morning to continue the conversation. That was 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for the call. She did however, have time to call the store and told them to let out of my the dresses, WITHOUT my permission or the permission of my bridesmaid. She then lied to us by saying we both said it was ok, we didn't. Not only did she do that against our wishes but now the dress still doesn't fit, the waist band, which is supposed to be straight, is now wavy AND they want my bridesmaid to pay for them to fix it again!!
My wedding is in a month, I have 4 dresses that don't fit and a store who won't do anything about it. I have emailed and called almost daily for 3 weeks and have yet to hear back. Please stay far far away from this place.
If you choose to ignore this and go anyways, my consultant was Lauren. She was useless. She told me my bridesmaid dress came in a juniors size. It didn't. She told me we wouldn't have to pay a rush fee. We did. And she measured everyone incorrectly.
Save yourself the trouble and take your business elsewhere. They don't deserve your money.
If I could give zero stars, I would. The stylist that we worked with commented on how weird all of our body types were. She told me that my measurements were strange because my bust, waist and hips would fit in different size dresses (For the record I had zero alterations done on the dress, so my body can't be that weird).
They informed us that our dresses would be in at the end of July. When August rolled around we decided to call, and were laughed at and told that we were wrong, our dresses would be in at the end of August. When September came we made repeated calls and were told that the dresses had shipped, and then a few days later that they hadn't shipped. We were hung up on, had people tell us we were wrong, tell us they'd call back and never did. The dresses arrived one week before the wedding. We were never given an apology or even had them acknowledge that we were not treated right.
Moral of the story: don't spend your money here, there are plenty of other places selling the same designers that actually value their customers.
I went here for my bridal gown in January 2014, found one I loved immediately and put a down payment on it. I was told that it usually takes about 6 months to get the dress from the designer I chose, which was fine. 6 months passed and I never heard anything, so I called to find out what was going on. No one could give me an answer and it seemed as though the manager and ordering department were never in the store. I finally got my dress 8 months later...I would not recommend this store to anyone, they caused so much more added stress and made the over-all experience just awful.
Initially my first visit to pick out dresses was good. Jennifer was helpful and nice. Now...where do I begin....I should have read reviews before I went here. First, I was promised to be sent color swatches and was told many times they were sent in the mail. I never received them. When I went for the tuxes because I could not wait any longer for the color swatch I found out from a different House of Brides that they messed up my color!!! After calling the Glen Ellyn store they said it would be fixed and it would not be a problem. That isn't even the worst of it. After calling wondering where the dresses were 3 weeks before the wedding I received a call and was told the dresses would be there the next day and that it was scheduled for delivery to the store. That day came and went. Now we are 10 days away from the wedding date. They made it seem as if it was MONTHS away. Finally I called and they told me that they would be in Friday. Then Friday they said Monday, then Monday they said Friday. The manager Michelle NEVER returned my 5 voicemails. Everyone on the phone was unhelpful, rude, and stunned when I demanded a tracking number for the dresses. I received a "uhh uhh we will call you right back". Never receiving a call back (that's if they answered the phone). It seems everything there is scripted and rehearsed. They act like the customer is the inconvenience for THEIR MISTAKES! They lie to their customer's and think that is ok? How do you conduct business like that? My fiancé finally had to call to get answers because NO ONE would tell me anything. After his call magically the dresses were in and ready 4 days later. Now here's the big kicker. One of my bridesmaids went to get fitted for the dress and it was way too small!!! The seamstress proceeded to tell her "thank goodness the dresses got done". She said "done?" Then proceeded to say they came in WEEKS ago and it was the wrong color so they had to fix the dresses there!!! NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THAT. They just continue to lie and lie and lie with NO answers saying they were expected for delivery on multiple different dates and had no response to me when I demanded a tracking #. Michelle was ALWAYS in between stores and they were unable to reach her to give a message but when we called other stores asking if Michelle was a manager they said NO!!!! I was also told they have no way to track the dresses. Really? They MUST think everyone is stupid. This place should not be in business AT ALL!!!! They are crooks and liars that work there. Please do NOT go here ever. It was my worst nightmare. A bride should never have to deal with this. This was not the end. If they are supposed to be a "bridal boutique" they should specialize in making it a good experience for each and every bride! They lie to all of their customers as if it is no big deal. I never do reviews but I have never been through something like this with a business that was so terrible. My fiancé had them give free alterations (for only one bridesmaid). Big deal. When she went to pick up her dress on the scheduled date 2 days before the wedding they did not even START HER ALTERATIONS!!! This place is unbelievable. No idea how they are still in business or how anyone could even work for a place like that. Bunch of liars and crooks! DO NOT SHOP HERE EVER!!! SAVE YOURSELF STRESS AND AGGRAVATION.
The first thing I want to note is this review is about the Glen Elyn location. I LOVED my dress and the reason I came here is since they are like a big box retailer my dress cost a $1,000 less than the small boutiques. Now with that said I had so many issues it's hard to start. The communication here is the worse. Good luck getting a call back. Aside from poor communication I had numerous other issues. First off there was issues with getting my dress sent from the distribution center and took about a month to get it in. Once it was finally in I went to schedule a time to pick up my dress only to have my dress held hostage. They lost my payment that I made to pay my dress off from a year before. I gave all of the bank info, check number, date cleared, etc and still had issues. I ended up having to take a day off of work to go pick up a physical copy of the check because they would not check there bank records. So now I get the payment issue taken care of I go to try my dress on and was horrified. I was not done. I purchased an Allure Couture dress that had a completely beaded bodice only to have the bodice not even halfway beaded. Plus to top it off I was measure 4 sizes to big. They ended up have to have a rush dress made for the right size and bead work. The dress was supposed to be in by 4 weeks, well guess what they literately lost my dress. It somehow got sent to Wisconsin. After days of tracking down the regional manager final drove my dress down. But I don't have to give huge props to the alterations lady Toni; she is amazing at what she does and I wish I could rate just here because she would get 5 stars across the board. My best advice is shop early because I'm thankful that I did given all of the issues that I had.
I have desperately been trying to get a hold of someone here. I ordered my dress March 3rd and it still hasn’t arrived. No one will take my calls, return my emails or voicemails. I have used their online support and they say they will check on it and then never respond back.
The wedding is in 5 weeks and my dress is currently MIA.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!!
I can understand a business making a promise it can't keep, after all many things are out of our control. But House of Brides in Glen Ellyn REPEATEDLY made promises they couldn't keep. We did finally get our bridesmaid dresses 2 1/2 weeks before the wedding date, but for 7 stressful weeks we had many reasons to believe that we might not get them in time for the wedding.
BUYER BEWARE - You will be given a delivery date. When it has come and gone you will call and be given another delivery date. In response to your repeated inquiries as to the status of your dress/dresses, you will be told many, many things, including your order will be pulled and red flagged, they will put a rush on your dresses, the manager is not in today, the order dept is closed today, deliveries only come on Tuesdays, your delivery will be here at 4:00 this Friday, and on and on and on. When you decide that you are tired of not getting any satisfaction over the phone, you will visit the store and request to see some proof that your dresses are on order/have shipped, etc. You will be told that HOB does not have the capacity to print that information (?!?) the manager is not here today, and she won't be there tomorrow either, there is no way to contact the manager's boss, etc, etc. If you happen to stop in when the manager IS there, she will confirm all of the above, as well as throw in her boss' fake email address.
When we finally got the dresses, the sash was actually navy, instead of black. And they were enormous! The women at the counter insisted the sash was indeed black, and that the designer uses European sizing (it's really scary to me when people lie so easily) I just grabbed the dresses and ran. Obviously we did not want to use HOB for alterations.
One positive thing I will say about the store - Jennifer is wonderful. She helped us choose dresses.
Shopping for the dress we had Mary Ann she was wonderful! She helped me find the dress that was perfect for me and she was super sweet. The ladies in alterations even though they were scared to cut my dress off to tea length and take out all the tulle they did it and made it look like it was always that way. In the end the ladies in alterations even loved the dress cut off. Again these ladies were super nice and professional. Then there was the manager, I had been trying to get my dress in the shop for four months and couldn't get a return phone call or an honest answer from the desk. I therefore, started stopping in the shop. I still wasn't getting anywhere. Then I started making fitting appointments and then they started changing them because the dress still wasn't in. I finally spoke to the manager who was unable to help me so I contacted customer service who was very accommodating. If you chose to use this shop you can get a great dress at a great value but you will have to do a lot of work because this was the only vendor in my wedding that wasn't organized and calling me. Instead, I had to work hard to keep them on track. Oh by the way I bought my dress 18 months before the wedding so I should have had none of these problems. If you purchase here go in with your eyes open.
My consultant Jennifer G. was fantastic! She was very helpful and patient. That is where the goodness ended. The dress took forever to come in, so you have to order early. The told me my dress was going to be in at the end of Febuary and it didn't come in until the beginning of April. When I called to get an update, the only person that could look into it was a manager. I left several messages for the manager and it took her over a week to call me back and she didn't even apologize. The front desk receptionist is always rude on the phone when I called and was looking for an update or to speak to the manager, who was never available (I called at all different hours tryinh to reach her). The dress was perfect and the alterations lady was great, but I wouldn't chance getting a dress from here unless you have a lot of time to wait (over 6 months). The only reason they got two starts from me is because of Jennifer G. and the alterations lady.
I used the House Of Brides in Glen Ellyn, Il. I ended up going with this place because they had the dress that I was dreaming of! But I had read the bad reviews and decided to just go through with it since it was the "dream dress". They treat you here like its a cattle call and all they are out for is money. I didn't feel special or like a bride at all. It was terrible, I would stay away!
I bought my dress at the House of Brides in Glen Ellyn, IL. I didn't have any issues and I really loved my dress. My friend also got her dress at this location and didn't seem to have any issues. I'd recommend this location. My sister in law used HOB in Shaumburg and is having problems with dresses being ordered in the wrong size and people not being credited the correct amount of money on things. I've heard horror stories, but I found a dress I love and a great price and didn't have any issues myself. It did take a long time for my bridesmaid dresses to come in and for my dress even though I ordered it over a year in advance and used a fake earlier date. I'd definitely say start early to avoid having to rush order a dress and have them mark the wedding date down as earlier. Also, to be noted. I didn't come there looking to be pampered and paraded around. I wasn't looking for that sort of experience. The two ladies worked with were quite nice. Ask for Jennifer G. she was a sweetheart and helped me try so many dresses. This is a good place to go if you want to try a large variety of dresses to see what style will really work for you. It's more a warehouse style so just don't come expecting soft music, lighting a champagne. But you also won't pay an arm and a leg on just the dress. Believe me there are many more things you will want to spend the money on for the big day.
I was not looking forward to dress shopping and was nervous. I went to the House of Brides in Glyn Ellen because they have a plus size boutique. However, the sales girl really didn't seem to want to help me. She didn't choose any gowns for me nor would she come into the dressing room and help me put on the gowns. I was very uncomfortable having been to one other salon where the staff couldn't do enough for me and helped me with everything. I don't know if it's because I'm plus size, but she didn't seem like she was pleased to be working with me. However, I adore my gown and it looks lovely.
I used House of Brides- Glen Ellyn for my bridesmaides dresses & for my mother of the bride dress. They were very helpful when we were trying dresses on and when we purchased them, but not when it was time to pikc them up. No one knew what was going on. Firsdt they said the dresses would be ready in three months, we called in three months, and they said one more month. i called again, and they said they weren't sure when they were coming, but I shouldn't worry bcauase they guarantee them four weeks before the wedding. I shouldn't have to wait four weeks before the wedding to get my dresses, when I ordered them NINE months before. The dresses were beautiful, but every dress had an issue- way too big or way too small. If you choose to uses them, I would highly recommend using a wedding date at least two months sooner that your REAL wedding date & also- make sure you know someone that can alter the dresses for you. It costs an arm and a leg to get altered there. In the end- my bridesmaides did look great, but it was the bigest headache of the entire Wedding planning process!
