House of Shields is a unique wedding reception venue located in San Francisco, CA. This historic bar was first opened in 1908, making it one of the oldest bars in the city. It was a speakeasy during the Prohibition era, and even featured a secret passageway that connected it to the Palace Hotel across the street. Guests in the hotel could use the passage to sneak across for a forbidden drink, or so the rumors say. The bar's iconic antique features have been lovingly maintained, and it doesn't feature any clocks or TVs, so you'll feel like you're going back in time. It's the perfect setting for a reception like no other.
The venue boasts unique details such as ornate chandeliers, cigar signs, a grand back bar, and original tiles, that were all carefully refurbished in 2009. Your guests are sure to marvel at the authentic historic ambiance as soon as they step inside. Larger events of up to 175 guests can be held in the beautiful Grand Bar, a 2,500-square-foot space with both bar and table seating. Rich wood paneling, elegant gold accents, and warm lighting from the chandeliers create an atmosphere that's both welcoming and sophisticated. There's also a mezzanine area that can be used on its own or in combination with the Grand Bar. This cozy space accommodates 30 to 50 guests, and features comfortable leather chairs and a wooden floor for a library-like feel. It also has a view of the Grand Bar, allowing you and your guests to enjoy the ambiance from a more private setting. The Mezzanine also has its own upstairs bar that you can use if desired.
House of Shields offers their own take on delicious classic cocktails, as well as a food menu curated by chef and owner Dennis Leary. You and your guests are sure to love the tasty food, creative drinks, and vintage ambiance of this one-of-a-kind venue.
