About this vendor
The Howard County Conservancy is a non profit organization focused on Environmental Education and the preservation of natural land. We have 232 acres of forests and fields, including over 5 miles of public hiking trails, that we have protected from development. In 2020 we saw a 70% increase in visitors to our scenic grounds as folks looked for a safe place to unwind and get outside. Our community garden also produced 4,100 pounds of produce which was donated to the Maryland Food Bank. On our property we also have several gardens, a historic barn, and a beautiful event center where we host all sorts of weddings, celebrations, and corporate events. Please view our virtual tour at https://www.howardnature.org/360tour/.
Our main rental package includes the use of our event room, the attached deck, and our John L. Clark Native Plant Garden. We also have Theresa's Garden, The Montjoy Barn, and a bridal suite located in our historic farmhouse available as add-ons. As we are a non-profit organization, any and all rental fees go toward supporting the work of the Conservancy, including: the preservation of natural land, education outreach, and even need-based preschool scholarships among so many other things.
Thank you so much for considering the Howard County Conservancy to host your special event. Please contact rentals@howardnature.org or call 410-465-8877 with any questions or to schedule a tour. We look forward to hearing from you!

We had the MOST amazing wedding at the Howard County Conservancy. From the initial tour, the walk throughs, the rehearsal, and wedding day, it was a seamless process and everyone at the HCC was great to work with. The venue itself is absolutely perfect - nature surrounding the venue for perfect photos, a covered patio with beautiful overlooks, and a all wood indoor reception hall. We had our ceremony on the partially covered deck, our cocktail hour in the garden, and our reception in the main hall. We had about 110 guests and it was a perfect fit. Everyone commented on how magnificent the grounds were and how beautiful of venue it was. We could not recommend this place enough!!!
This was a perfect venue, we got married 9/28/24 and had perfect weather, the trees provided enough shade so it wasn’t too hot. We had the ceremony down at the amphitheater, the only downfall was that the black walnut tree was dropping walnuts (unfortunately this is the time of year that they fall), luckily no one got hit and honestly I wouldn’t have changed the location anyways. The covered deck was perfect for cocktail hour. Inside, we had 14 large round tables plus our sweetheart table, desert table, DJ, etc. and still had plenty of room on the dance floor.
HCC is a great, unique wedding venue! It is perfect for couples who love the idea of an outdoor/indoor reception area. The covered balcony is a huge asset in case of rain. The gardens were much enjoyed by our guests!
The only critique we have from the venue is that the AC was either not working or not strong enough in July to offset the amount of people in the space so the indoor room got very hot.
Otherwise, we have no complaints and appreciated the simple beauty and flexibility of this venue!
This venue was so gorgeous! The manager was so sweet and very easy to work with. We had an overwhelmingly positive experience having our wedding here and would absolutely recommend it!
Loved everything about this space!! It was unique, beautiful, spacious and so much nature.
I liked that there was an outdoor and indoor space the guests were able to go. Grace was our point of contact for the venue, and from the start she was so nice, helpful and very responsive. We love that it's also a place we can revisit and build future memories.
The Howard County Conservancy is a beautiful venue & great to work with. My only complaint would be the lack of clarity on the time in the Bridal Cottage & feeling rushed towards the end of our getting ready portion. Overall, it was a beautiful day & venue!
The Howard County Conservancy was a perfect venue for our wedding. We rented the bridal suite andTheresa's Garden for the ceremony and had the reception in the Gudelsky Center. The deck was a perfect way for our guests to spread out and enjoy the evening outside, especially during the era of COVID. With so much natural beauty around we didn't feel the need to decorate much.
If you are looking for a gorgeous, rustic wedding venue with the flexibility to bring in your own vendor team and DIY, this place is for you! The venue does provide fantastic tables and chairs and honestly the reception area needs very little decoration as it is already gorgeous with tons of light and character.
You can "add on" the barn rental for your ceremony as well as the Farmhouse Suite to get dressed/take some bridal party shots prior to the wedding as well.
You do need to be ready to plan the whole thing yourself though and hire some sort of day of coordinator to make sure things stay on track. We planned our wedding ourselves, but paid extra for our DJ and Officiant to run some coordination day of for us, so we could just enjoy the day.
BONUS - this venue is a non-profit and the work they do is absolutely fantastic. You can rest easy knowing your venue costs are going towards a great mission. AND because this venue has community activities and tons of trails to hike, you can come back and visit your wedding venue anytime. This made it really special for us. Could not recommend a better place! :)
My husband and I were looking for a "rustic chic" venue that was air conditioned and was reasonably priced. Denise was so kind and lovely to work with. They were excited by all of the ideas that we had for the reception and were very supportive. Would recommend!
