She was a supportive and grounding force as she helped us design our wedding before another member of her team - LaShonda - took over to put everything into action. LaShonda was such a joy to work with. She made me feel heard, understood, and supported - even when my parents were trying to push for their own choices! - and made sure my husband and I were happy with each and every decision. I had an easy time trusting her and her ideas. Our wedding day was flawless thanks to LaShonda’s diligence, creativity, and leadership. Everything from the ceremony rehearsal to our last dance and send off was perfectly executed and easy. Our entire wedding party raved about LaShonda and her incredibly helpful schedule — a HUGE bonus for this Type A/control freak bride. I knew LaShonda had everything covered - even things I never thought of - so I was able to fully relax in the days leading up to the wedding and on wedding day. The only thing I had to worry about was getting dressed!! My only complaint is that our business together has concluded — I will miss Kawania, LaShonda, and the entire H+W Events Team! I guess we’ll have to plan an anniversary party!! TLDR; Do not hesitate to hire this team. It will be the best and smartest decision you make.

Our wedding was perfect and we had a very positive experience working with Kay and would recommend hiring her. What We Loved We decided to go with Kay because during our initial consultation we found her to be warm and very open and honest. We interviewed several wedding planners, and Kay really made us feel special and that we were not just another number. Kay really went above and beyond during the planning process. We expected her to lean in heavily during the last month, but it really felt like we’d hired a full-time wedding planner. She regularly would email us interesting ideas of design ideas that she would come across. Moreover, she did a lot of extras that were not in her contract, like personally drive to the post office and hand cancelled our wedding invitations. We are also very organized, so we loved that Kay laid out a detailed timeline, helped us refine our budget, and used basecamp to coordinate all the wedding activities and communication. Kay also has worked in the wedding planning industry for a long time, so naturally she knows a lot of people. We found her contacts to be invaluable during the wedding planning process as we were looking for trusted and affordable options for flowers, photography, and lighting. Kay usually has a knack for who is good and who is not good and how much things should really cost, which we found helpful. On the day of our wedding, even though our contract only entitled us to a few people from her staff helping, she was so determined to make our wedding day spectacular that she brought in everyone from her company. We had an army hard at work making sure everything was perfect on our special day. For a year, Kay was a regular presence in our life, so it was quite sad to see her go. Months after the wedding, Kay sent us a beautiful gift basket and Christmas card. What Could Be Improved There were a couple of areas that we thought Kay could improve on in the future to be an even better wedding planner. First, we thought that Kay could do a better job of prioritizing the things that we told her were important. For us, that was the seating arrangement and a tent in case we had bad weather. Although Kay was great at sending us outside the box ideas throughout the planning process, we felt that she didn’t put enough focus on the things that we really cared about and in the end, we had to step in and manage those elements ourselves. We also thought that Kay could have done a better job of actively seeking feedback from us, especially since we worked so long together. We shared our feedback with her a few months before our wedding, and she was very open and receptive to it. We also saw her incorporate many of these things into her working style before our wedding day. All in all, we had a very positive experience working with Kay and Kay Wooten Events, and would recommend her to plan a wedding or any large-scale event.

Kawania and her team kept my husband and I on track with planning and got us through the process. I was on travel for work most of the summer but Kawania was never more than an email or phone call away. The planning software she uses will send daily reminders of tasks that need to be completed--great for Type A people like myself who need checklists. Our wedding day went off without a hitch and was most importantly, on schedule. If there were any issues that day, we did not know about them. Her team's coordination was probably the only reason I was able to actually enjoy my wedding celebration and participate in all of the planned out details. My one regret was not having Howerton+Wooten plan my whole wedding!

She even sent us care packages with wedding magazines and other treats along the way. She assisted us with setting up meeting with vendors and picking out the vendors and items that would best suit our individual style for our multicultural wedding. Leading up to the big day, Kay and her team really saved us by helping with some extra last minute tasks such as gift bags and table settings which was sooo greatly appreciated. Kay was exceptionally kind and patient from start to finish. She even dealt with my ‘momzilla’ in perfect stride on the wedding day. From the initial contact to several months after the wedding, Kay and the staff at Howerton +Wooten have been wonderful. We were also able to use their Planning software that made it very easy to stay on track so when our big day came all the tasks were done. Kay was very easy to talk to and had many great ideas for what we wanted to do. If we came up with an idea Kay found a way to make it easier or better. She was indispensable when we had our final meeting with our reception venue contact. She thought of things we would have never thought to ask. Any time we had questions about other vendors we were looking into she was able to give us her opinion or ask other planners if she hadn't worked with them. This was also so helpful, because neither of us have ever planned a wedding before. Anytime we ever had a question they would get back to us in less then 24 hours. On the day of our wedding everything in our venue was set up to perfection, just as we talked to her about. Although there are always small issues at any given event Kay and her team were able to roll through them and get everything done without needing our input. It was great not to worry about anything on one of the biggest days of our lives!!!

I am glad he twisted my arm. Kay was absolutely wonderful. She was organized, professional and understood my vision for my wedding. About a week before the wedding, I learned that Wild Flower Linen totally botched up my custom linen order. Kay sprung into action and assisted with locating linen that surpassed my expectations in a matter of days. The linen was gorgeous! She is truly a stress reliever and one resourceful individual. I will forever cherish the memories of my wedding day.

These characteristics carried over through the next six months of planning until the big day. On the day of my wedding, everything went so smoothly and I have been told by many guests how my wedding was the best planned and executed wedding that they have ever been to. My wedding was everything I imagined and more and I am grateful to Kay and her team for making it happen. I don’t intend to ever plan a wedding again, but if I did, Kay would be the planner I would want by my side. Whatever my expectations were for my wedding planner, Kay delivered one hundred times over and above!!

She was warm, funny, organized, and she was patient when I started to get a little crazy. On my wedding day, she was on top of everything! They cost a little more than I wanted to spend, but they were worth every penny I paid them!

had several planning meetings and we were assured by Kawania (Kay) of Howerton Wooten events that she had everything she needed as long as we sent a few people to help with the physical work. We had a friend and several family members meet her at the venue. They expected to receive direction from Kay but were handed decorations without any direction and had to figure it out. Kay got involved in setting tables ( we had ordered linens, had them delivered to her office and had the flowers arranged and ready to be set on the tables after we had friends deliver them to the reception site). It was a windy morning but excellent weather was predicted for the time of the reception, but somehow The rest of the details just didn't come together. Kay was supposedly bringing her "team" as well and we never saw them or met them and apparently they were sent home because they were in overtime after 3 hours of work, if they were ever there. As far as we can tell it was only Kay and her husband and son helping our friend and family setup. So much for Howerton Wooten events making our smallish, lesbian,DIY wedding their priority for the weekend. They did nothing to plan our ceremony (our priest and church vestry plan all the ceremonies) and according to our guests and the photographer the tables weren't ready when they arrived. The things that were ready were done by our family, so it is unclear what any of the Howerton Wooten "team " did before the reception began or how any of them could have been in "overtime". Also, our vendors were totally confused. Kay had not been able to do anything to get the driver together even though the driver was at the reception site at the appointed time, according to Kay's schedule. We had to call and ask Kay what hAppened and the driver was almost 30 minutes late meeting us. Waitstaff we hired (from a company Kay recommended) were 30 minutes late and had the wrong email instructions from Kay. She also didn't supervise them and we had to leave our photoshoot early to go to the reception to tell them to serve the food. By the time we got there someone had gotten them the message and we had left our photo shoot for nothing. When I got there I was embarrassed that my guests had been starving, that the flowers were wilted, and the decorations were falling down. The morning winds were untenable but it's unclear why a planner with so much experience wasn't able to just make the executive decision to wait to put the flowers out till the last minute and scrap the decorations. I still don't understand why they kept reworking the decorations instead of making sure our guests were comfortable. How could a "team" with so many awards and good reviews not get appetizers and cookies out on time when waitstaff were there to do the work? There were other issues I addressed during the party and I spent half the party miserable. I remain sad about the event and sad that Howerton Wooten can not take responsibility or even offer a token refund as an apology. I waited a month to write this to get the whole story and I noticed Kay has amazing reviews for a large, expensive, 'day of' coordination only 5 days after ours. Perhaps that is what created the 'overtime'. If our job was too small for them to do well, they should not have taken it.

rom start to finish, not including setup and breakdown! We had a Hindu ceremony, an Episcopal ceremony, cocktails and then a sit-down dinner reception. Everything went like clockwork thanks to Kay and her team. Kay even attended to my now-wife's mother when she felt ill during the reception. We hired Kay for her "month of" service, but we also got "a la carte" services from her -- she mailed our invitations, printed and assembled our programs, found a babysitter, and managed the shuttle service for the rehearsal dinner and wedding. At the rehearsal dinner, she even held umbrellas for our guests in the torrential downpour! As part of the "day-of" service, she did the final coordinating with all of the vendors, including our cranky caterer -- thank goodness we didn't have to! And to top it off, Kay is an incredibly considerate, caring person. When my wife broke her foot, Kay sent a get-well gift. She worked hard to understand the family/cultural dynamics of our wedding, and she even had a Mother's Day card for my new mother-in-law a month after the wedding. Hiring Kay is the best decision we've made as a couple so far -- aside from the decision to get married!

Kay had been very kind and professional during all of our prep work together, but unfortunately we were really disappointed with how the plan was executed. Specifically, the tables and decorations were not set up as specified and were not ready when our guests arrived, the tear down work fell nearly 100% to my family which was not the plan, and the feedback we received from our family and wedding party about Kay's demeanor and interaction with our guests was that she was "exhausted, frazzled, and overwhelmed." We have been told since that the main issue was that we didn't hire enough other vendors, but Kay is the professional and was well aware of the staffing we had hired. We relied on her guidance. If our expectations could not have been met at the planned staffing level, we should have been notified prior to the event. All in all, we are just incredibly disappointed.

To this day we are still receiving phone calls, texts, and emails from our family stating that it was the best wedding that they have ever attended and we owe it all to Kay. Although I am clearly bias, I would have to agree with them. In addition, to my wedding, Kay also planned my bridal shower, which again was sheer perfection! She is simply amazing. Kay truly exceeded our expectations. She is kind, professional, considerate, knowledgeable, patient and extremely creative. She was there with us every step of the way for our wedding planning including having meeting about our plans and progress, referring fabulous venders, going to vendor appointments, going to dress fitting, unlimited phone calls, emails, communication with all the vendors, timelines for vendors and the entire wedding party, endless support when the stress of the wedding got to me, rehearsal, and on and on. I say this to say that she truly goes above and beyond, which has meant so much to us. We honestly feel so blessed and honored to have Kay be our wedding planner. To be honest, the title wedding planner doesn’t do her justice, because she became more than that. She became a special part of our family. So if you haven’t picked up on it yet, no one should ever hesitate to hire Kay. It really doesn’t get better than this. She is simply amazing.

But not because she infuses your wedding with her personal opinions but because she is a good friend and a great listener. She gets to know you and because of her years of experience can synthesize and organize your wedding to perfection, which leads to my next point that... 2) *She is a resource*: Because she has been in the business for a while, she can give excellent, vetted vendor recommendations. Our DJ, florist, makeup/hair stylists, transportation, etc were all Kay's recommendations - it made the process so much easier and hassle-free (a great thing when you are juggling so many wedding planning balls) 3) *She is a guide*: I literally had no clue what I wanted and had never imagined what my wedding day would be like. Probably a nightmare to work with, Kay never showed it - she was patient, listened and provides great guidelines, timelines and task lists for how to plan your wedding. She walks you through everything and makes you feel totally organized. When you start to feel overwhelmed with everything, she steps in and does her magic. Maybe that is my #4: *She is a magician*. Whatever it was, she is definitely a must-have person on your wedding team. I would recommend her without hesitation and would love to work with her anytime. I already miss our weekly check-ins. It is rare to find someone who is not only really really good at what they do for a living, but also really love it too. Kay, you most definitely have both.
