We recently hosted a reception at La Vista Terrace and were less than satisfied with the service we received.
Wayfinding/Locating the venue
- The address for the venue adds to the difficulty in locating the space.
- The exterior signage provided by the venue is basically useless, the size of the stand and the venue name in script make it very difficult to see and read if you are coming from Alamo Plaza and Losoya (see attached image).
- There is no sign in the elevator so that attendees know "P" is for La Vista Terrace
Service
- There should have been a second bar on the balcony. One bar for 175 attendees is insufficient and very disappointing
- The event was understaffed. I find it inappropriate that the event manager was doing double duty as event manager and bartender
- I had to instruct the staff on a number of occasions to pass beer/wine to attendees standing in the long bar line
- I had to instruct staff on a number of occasions to bus the busing stands and food tables
- Sodas and bottled water were not readily available to attendees
Decor/Interior
- The bussing stands should have been covered in black linens
- The balcony fans are better suited for a factory. Trellis mounted fans would be an elegant touch, however masking the fans with foliage or a slatted wall would go along way towards making them less intrusive
- Towards the end of the event, there was no music on the audio system
- The A/C was non-existent
La Vista Terrace is a gorgeous venue that overlooks the best part of downtown San Antonio. There's air conditioned indoor space that has a place for everything! On the patio, it's beautiful just the way it is but we chose to glam it. It was VERY versatile! We worked with Taylor Simmons to iron out the details of catering and coordination of my wedding. She was an absolute pleasure to work with! She made everything so easy and was so accommodating the entire way through. We blocked rooms at the Hyatt through Lance Baker, the Services Manager and even he also made the experience so simple and took the headache out of managing who's/where/when. From a business/service perspective these guys knocked it out of the park. I like to think it was because they like me, but it's truly just their standard mode of operation - they understand how customers want to be treated. Enough about them, the venue is gorgeous and the entire event was spectacular. Dinner was amazing, the decor was so beautiful and we're still hearing compliments even months after our wedding! I couldn't have asked for anything more and I got way more than I ever expected! It was a top notch experience all the way!
This hotel is breathtaking inside! I received a great group rate, my guests loved the location and bar, and I myself had a wonderful stay there the night of my wedding.
In the planning stages, I did have to ask over four times for my husband's name to be spelled correctly, but that was our only complaint.
I have to say having both our rooms and reception at the hotel made things easier on us. The hotel and catering staff were great as we did not live in San Antonio, and had to arrange everything from our home in California. The staff were easy to work with and very helpful with helping us plan things out. The food was great and people are still talking about it. The rooms were nice and clean, and we had to make some changes and the staff did all they could to make it happen. All in all everything was great.
