onse my wedding coordinator and I received from Cathy when we respectfully approached her about an issue with a backdrop from I Do.
I ordered the white backdrop with lights for my Sept. 2025 wedding. I saw photos of that exact setup in my venue and loved it so much that I was willing to pay the total of $743 ($208 for the backdrop itself and $535 in setup/tear down/late-night fees). I paid these extra fees so my day-of coordinator wouldn’t have to worry about handling it at all.
I Do dropped off rentals and set up the backdrop on Thursday for my Friday wedding. They assembled the backdrop but never plugged in the lights. While I understand why they wouldn’t leave lights running 24 hours in advance, the company made zero mention to me, my coordinator, or venue staff that someone would need to plug it in the next day. Naturally, the lights were never turned on, and I ended up with a plain white backdrop for $743.
There were multiple opportunities for them to communicate this simple but important step:
1. When confirming the Thursday drop-off. I would have immediately added this to my list of tasks for my coordinator.
2. When my coordinator reached out to confirm details the week of the wedding.
3. At the actual drop-off, by telling me, my coordinator, or venue staff, or even a quick call or email.
They never did.
When I calmly raised this afterward, Cathy said: “In 30 years of business we’ve never needed to provide instructions for something as simple as plugging in a lighted backdrop.” She implied my coordinator and I were too stupid to plug in a cord, completely missing the point that the issue was lack of communication, not the task itself. She even said we should have called her when we noticed, or that I should have known to do it myself on the morning of my wedding, when I had already paid her company specifically to handle it. Forgive me if I was a bit preoccupied (the reason I paid for set up in the first place).
Cathy even compared plugging in the backdrop to something as “obvious” as turning on candles. The difference? I paid a hefty setup fee for the backdrop to be fully set up. I did not pay a setup fee for candles. My coordinator already knew candle setup was her responsibility; and yes, believe it or not, “full setup” includes the very basic step of turning them on or plugging them in.
Cathy refused to take any accountability, apologize, or even consider refunding the setup fee, despite the setup clearly not being complete. Instead, she doubled down and continued to belittle me and my coordinator. After paying nearly $2,000 to her business for decor, I was appalled by the way she dismissed my concerns.
I am incredibly understanding and would have let this go if she had shown even a shred of responsibility or apologized. Instead, her customer service was abysmal, her attitude condescending, and her treatment of clients disrespectful. I will never work with this company again and will not recommend them to anyone.
