You know Uncle Sandro does not forgive until we take full control of the follow. :) Even though I am a male, I always say I prefer following a lead when I dance, because it becomes almost like a Zen meditation when you truly let go and become an extension of someone else. I love it, and watching you finally do that was incredible, and that is exactly why I set up your practice the way I did. I wanted you to know the structure, but I also wanted you to improvise so the lead woudl lead and the follow would follow - it is the only way this can happen I am so proud of both of you. You looked amazing, and you should be very proud of yourselves. Look what we did in such a short time. You did not just learn a routine. You learned a language that you can use forever, not just for this dance. We had such a good time. We laughed so hard throughout the process, and that is so important. Too often people take this too seriously and forget to enjoy it. This should be the fun part of wedding planning. Everything else can be complicated and stressful, but this should never be. etimes people even ask if I teach gay weddings, and they have no idea that I am actually a gay man myself. Most of my clients happen to be straight, but I honestly do not care who I work with. As long as people bring energy, enthusiasm, and love, everything works out beautifully. With same-gender couples, there is always that playful challenge of switching lead and follow, which can completely confuse me at times because I have to do both parts... Ha ha :) My brain can hurt for it :) Ha ha, but it was such a joy to figure it out with you. You both did so, so well. I saw the snippets you sent, and I cannot wait to see the full dance. You looked gorgeous, and your outfits even matched the floor, which made everything look even more perfect. I loved how you handled the back-and-forth between lead and follow. You absolutely nailed it. At first, it took a bit to settle into your roles, and I kept teasing you, saying whoever leads, leads, and whoever follows, follows. Once you stopped back leading, the magic happened. That is when everything started to flow, and you became one with the music and with each other. You got there, and it was so much fun. YEAH! Recognizing that energy and being able to shape and play with it alongside you was very special to me. I also loved that you had the ambition to take on the full song. I usually shorten it, but you wanted the whole journey, and that is why we did the five lessons, because you had so much to give. What made it even more meaningful was the way you allowed me to step in as a director, to play with the acting, to take your ideas and elevate them. You brought the playfulness, and I said, “Okay, if that is what you want, let us do it well.” Guiding you on how to act certain parts, adding the theatrical touch you were looking for, was exciting for me too. Your idea for the ending was wonderful. When I saw it, I said, “That is what you want, so let us make it right.” Planning the fireworks, synchronizing every moment, directing the whole experience with the invasion of your groomsmen, it was pure joy. I am emotional writing this because I rarely respond so immediately. Usually I wait until I find time between everything else I do with other couples. But your words went straight to my heart, and I could not hold back. For me, this is never just a job. Each time I feel like I get to exist in this universe by connecting with people’s joy. Once you understand that game and play with it, bang! it’s like I gave you the alphabet, and now you get to write your own sentences. That’s what makes me so happy. I miss you two! When people plan trips just to work with me, it humbles me deeply and gives me even more will to deliver the ultimate experience for each unique person and couple. Your voice was spectacular, and seeing how much you both wanted it—how you pushed yourselves and even asked me to elevate it further—made me so proud. The way you connected to the lyrics, the little moments you added within the structure I gave you.. that’s exactly what I mean when I say, make it yours. Plenty of people can learn a structure. But not everyone adds their own two cents. You did. And that’s what makes a dance mean something. Otherwise, it’s just a shape. Think of it this way: I can give you a cake, but a cake is a cake is a cake. It could be round or square, it's just a shape... It’s the frosting that makes it special, unique, and yours. And both of you brought the frosting. Your enthusiasm, your joy, your commitment, it was all there. I’m so glad you took the time to find the right instructor for you, and even more pleased you kept searching instead of blaming yourself for something that wasn’t your fault. Finding the right instructor is not that easy. I, too, can be the wrong one for some. I know my energy and personality aren’t for everyone. I’m so glad I remembered that soundtrack from the movie Sabrina—a client brought it to me years ago, and I thought, maybe this is what she’s looking for. And your face, the moment I played it, said it all. That was your waltz. And then—mixing it all up with that fun, joyful dance… watching the video just made me so happy. Because the most important thing in any dance is being present. Without that, it means nothing. But you two? You were there. From that minute of classic waltz to the burst of playfulness right after—you brought it. You felt it. And your guests clearly felt it too. And to think, that was just two weeks before the wedding! Your love for Taylor Swift just came through in every beat and structure. Your friends are around his "proposal" to you again on his knee as it began! SO FUN! This is why I love what I do. You came in with fear, and left incredulous :) To watch you see what you can do for yourselves is everything, to hear you say (in the review!) that you went from zero to here in a flash—that made me smile so much.
