It Takes Two!

A disclaimer: this review will be long and detailed and will probably sound unbelievable. Trust us that Corinne and Aaron of It Takes Two are seriously this incredible. We are a queer couple, and as we searched through local DJs, we were turned off by so many of them that seemed to have this aggressive, testosterone-fueled, deeply heteronormative approach to what makes a “party.” Corinne and Aaron are the opposite. From the moment we met them, they were interested in who we were as people and what was most important to us in celebrating our love. They listened to all our ridiculous stories, and remembered the things that were most important to us from one meeting to the next (months apart). Not only did they really hear our needs for gender-inclusive language that honored us as a queer couple and all of our guests, it was already their norm. We loved that we got to work with them directly from day one. Unlike some DJ companies, where you work with the company as a whole and they have a bunch of different DJs that do their actual events, Corinne and Aaron do it all, and they do it brilliantly. None of the details were going to get lost in the shuffle. They told us at our first meeting just how many different devices they will have with them on event day with our music saved, so that they are prepared for any contingency and will never have to stream music. We loved working with them because they took our event as seriously as we did. It never felt like just another day at the office for them. If all of that wasn’t enough, Corinne and Aaron literally saved our wedding in less than 24 hours when it seemed like everything was going to fall apart. My partner tested positive for covid as she was blow drying her hair for our rehearsal dinner. We scrambled to be able to still have a wedding while ensuring appropriate precautions (in consultation with my partner’s uncle who works for City of Denver public health). Corinne and Aaron were on the phone with us at 10:30pm the night before our wedding reassuring us and confirming plans with us. Everything we had planned for went out the window, but they showed up and made it all happen. Our carefully crafted timeline was totally shot, and we were making decisions about what parts of the “reception” we were going to salvage and what we were rearranging up until the wedding started. Corinne and Aaron rolled with all of it. They already knew what was important to us, and were able to help us make decisions on the fly that honored the core of what we wanted this wedding to be. The fact that Corinne and Aaron work as a pair, meant that everything was covered. The timing was flawless as they communicated across the backyard, even as we were making it all up on the fly. Their systems are impeccable, and they are truly unflappable. It would have been so easy for our wedding to feel like a discombobulated mess, but Corinne and Aaron’s kindness and level-headedness meant that it got to feel celebratory and special.
