My fiancé & I contracted COVID in Alaska while there for our elopement. We tested at home first, it was negative. We only retested in Alaska to go on our honeymoon. After testing positive, we decided to notify our wedding planner who reached out to all of our vendors. Our elopement was cancelled by the vendors the night before, understandably so.
After the wedding was cancelled, we heard from our videographers, who were understanding/compassionate. They put in an immense amount of time preparing for our special day. However, despite their work, they gave us a refund. Our wedding planner, who obviously planned our entire day, gave 75% of what we paid back to us. Both, our wedding planner & videographers, were understanding & flexible. They knew that this was out of our control & that we were devastated. We initially wanted to reschedule the wedding for after our qarantine was over, but, our wedding planner informed us that none of our vendors felt comfortable being around us this year.
After all of this, we were never contacted by our Jamie. During the wedding planning process, she contacted us 1 time. She made promises to reach out before the wedding to plan photos, she never did. The ONLY time we heard from her was to see if we were still planning on going to Alaska to get married.
After the wedding was cancelled, I asked her to consider a refund. She declined & said she reached out to talk about rescheduling. “Knowing the uncertainty and the risk of traveling during this pandemic, I reached out to you in May to discuss reschedule options as many couples were moving to 2021 wedding dates.”
She only asked if we were still going to Alaska. Her email is as follows: “I’m touching base with all my June and July brides and seeing how they are doing. :) I know there is alot of uncertainty right now surrounding weddings, travel, etc. and I’ve had a few brides reach out about what their options are if they want to reschedule. Are you still planning on traveling to Alaska if the travel restrictions are lifted or are you considering postponing your wedding?” I replied that we were still planning to get married in Alaska. Her response was, “Sounds great Macy. I just wanted to see what my couples are thinking :). I’m so hoping the travel restrictions get lifted.”
After declining the refund, she cited her contract, “WEDDING EVENT CANCELLATION: Should the Client cancel the Wedding Event before final payment is due, the retainer is nonrefundable and nontransferable...” I did not cancel the wedding. I contracted COVID resulting in the vendors cancelling due to not wanting to be in contact with someone positive for the novel coronavirus!
After taking a few days, I responded to her email & again asked her to reconsider a refund. She gave back 27% of what we paid. While I would have obviously liked more, any amount returned was appreciated. However, her response to my email is what made me write this review. " I'm guessing you're deciding to not reschedule and get married in Alaska next summer as I gave as an option? Your cancellation of the wedding the night before resulted in a scenario where I couldn't even rebook anything for that day. It was a complete loss to me."
Having the wedding cancelled the night before was a complete loss to HER. Again, not considering her clients or the fact that she got over $1,500 from us in the end, just to hold a date.
Long story short, I do not recommend Jamie Taylor Photography. At. All.
